The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I have to admit that Ben Stiller‘s humour isn’t always something I would call funny, but eversince I saw the trailer for the Secret Life of Walter Mitty I had to watch the movie. Although it is marketed as a comedy, I wouldn’t necessarily call it that. It has funny bits, but it’s not a movie during which you are going to laugh the entire time.

Generally, the movie is about Walter Mitty, an average man who works for Life Magazine. More often than not he escapes into his daydreams where he can accomplish anything he sets his mind to, but when the magazine he works for is about to be converted into an online format, he takes real action for the first time. Determined to find the missing photo that was meant to be printed on the last publication, he embarks on a global journey, all the while finding himself on the way.

I adored the movie! Ben Stiller did an amazing job directing and starring in the movie alongside great actors and actresses such as Sean Penn, Kristen Wiig, Kathryn Hahn, Shirley MacLaine and Adam Scott. Although, it might not be the most realistic movie out there, it was most certainly inspiring. It makes you want to explore the world around you and go on an adventure of some sort. I have to say that it was all in all a beautiful movie, not just because of the storyline, but also because of the gorgeous pictures and landscapes. I am even thinking of reading the short story by James Thurber that the movie was based on just to see if it can create the same feelings.

Have you watched it? Do you prefer Ben Stiller’s earlier works to this movie or were you as smitten as I was?

  1. This has probably been one of my favourites from him, I was also a big fan of There’s Something About Mary (but who isn’t) I loved Walter Mitty and put it in my top 10 for 13, it had everything and was beautifully shot too! I also felt it had at times some of that original stiller humour as in Zoolander 🙂

  2. […] What’s your favorite post that you have written? (Share the Link please) I am never entirely happy with my own posts, that’s the problem with being a perfectionist, but I think I managed to make the Walter Mitty sound interesting without acutally giving away too much of the storyline. So, here’s the link: […]
