The Maze Runner Series

On a side note:

Okay, I feel terrible. I feel as if I completely and utterly abandoned this blog, but there are times when I simply have no idea what to write about. It’s not even that there isn’t a multitude of films, TV shows and books to gush about, but I just don’t have it in me to actually write a single word down. Yet, as always when I should do something entirely different, I suddenly feel the urge to post something. So, apologies for letting you all down for such a long time and I hope you enjoy the following post:

Now to the Maze Runner Series!

I read all three books in the series (which include The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure) written by James Dashner, but I couldn’t bring myself to read the prequel The Kill Order too. In the end those were my thoughts about the book (and I think I am not spoiling something major here):

I am thoroughly disappointed!

In my opinion there was absolutely no point to Teresa (Am I the only one thinking that? She was in a coma or somewhere else entirely most of the series!) or Brenda for that matter. She just waltzed in in the second book and suddenly she’s a major character. I don’t get it. Maybe Dashner wanted to have some sort of female character in there, but in my opinion that experiment failed completely.

The resolution of the story was alright, I guess. I think the best part about the books were Minho and Newt  (not exactly main characters for everyone who hasn’t read the book yet). And Thomas … what can I say about Thomas. It seems that to him, everybody was his close friend and simply everyone betrayed him. He definitely isn’t my favourite, but I somewhat tollerated him.

I just feel like there are still so many questions left and the last book in general felt like it took forever to get to the point. I got used to people randomly dying one after the other, but that should have made the story more exciting, but it didn’t do anything for me.

In the end, I think that I liked the first book (The Maze Runner) the best and felt like it was going downwards from then on, BUT I am really excited about the movie. I can already tell from the trailer, that they canged a lot of the story (maybe to the better?). Some of my favourite actors and actresses star in the film, such as Dylan O’Brien or Kaya Scodelario. I am so looking forward to that! The other cast members include: Thomas Sangster, Will Poulter, Aml Ameen, Jacob Latimore, Ki Hong Lee, …

The release date is set for September this year and below you can now watch the first trailer for the movie. Tell me what you think? Did you read the books? Are you excited for the movie? What’s on your mind?

  1. I’ve read the books as well, and I enjoyed them, though I admit they did have their flaws. I’m looking forward to the movie, personally. Dylan O’Brien is a great actor, and I’d like to see him play the lead in a film adaptation of my novel Snake. I just hope that the movie is good. God knows there are enough bad dystopia adaptations out there already.

    • I probably sounded a bit harsh in my review, but it’s not like I didn’t enjoy it at all. I desperately wanted to know what would happen to all of the people in the book, but there was just so much that annoyed me as well. There is so much left unanswered!
Concerning Dylan: I love that dude! I haven’t watched one movie or TV show where he wasn’t absolutely amazing. Have you seen the last season of Teen Wolf. I mean he was just great!
I’m a little afraid, that I am hyping the movie too much and that it will disappoint me in the end, but we’ll see. There’s still a lot of time until September.

      • I am so psyched for this! And immensly glad that they don’t let us wait an entire year.
I was shocked that they would let Allison die, but then again she really didn’t play such a big part this season. Isaac is also leaving, yet not dying, I’ve heard and concerning Kate … hmm … I somewhere read she’s like a werepanther? No idea what’s going on there.
I hope they explore the whole Malia issue a little more!

      • I think Lydia and Stiles are definitely endgame, but I right now Lydia just doesn’t know how to appreciate Stiles. So, for me, it’s alright that he has something going on with Malia. Maybe Lydia will get jealous and finally see what she has in him.

      • Speaking of Malia, now that Peter knows he has a kid, I wonder what will happen with that? Probably something very awkward and very sad, followed by something very heartwarming. Still, it’ll be fun to see it happen.

      • That’s exactly what I meant earlier by: I hope they explore the Malia issue. I mean her “dating” Stiles is one thing, but being Peter’s daughter something entirely different. I want to know how all of this happened. I mean did Peter have an affair with her mother, was she adopted, … Just, what happened?
        I can’t wait!

  2. I needed to thank you for this very good read!!
I definitely loved every little bit of it. I have you book-marked to
look at new things you post…
