The Jungle Book (2016) Trailer Release

I hate to break it to you, but I was not exactly ecstatic to hear about the live-action remake of The Jungle Book. I just honestly don’t see the point of making a movie with people if it almost exclusively consists of animals. They are all animated and I don’t even think they look that great or like real animals … also, was Baloo always a brown bear? And Scarlett Johansson as Kaa? Not exactly what I had in mind. However, I have to give it to them, they really got a great cast voicing the movie with Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken, Giancarlo Esposito and Lupita Nyong’o being just some of the names.

What do you guys think? Do you think it was necessary to make this a live-action movie? I think I prefer my more innocent childhood vision of the whole story.

  1. *sigh* Sadly Disney’s also got remake fever. And the problem is, the remakes they’ve done–Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella–they’re all visually stunning, but other than that they don’t add much to the original story.
Still, I have to give them props for actually casting an Indian actor as Mowgli, seeing as so many filmmakers these days put white actors in roles that were meant for non-white actors. And I had a bit of a giggle when I heard Mowgli whistle “Bear-necessities.”

  2. I assume this won’t be a musical (a pretty strong assumption until that whistle at the end), because oh God, how will they make real-action animals SING? That would be awful. But so much of the heart of The Jungle Book is in its music. I guess my answer is that I’ll be annoyed either way, so even though parts of it look really cool, I mostly wish they’d left my childhood alone.
