It’s that time of the year again – a ton of shows are starting and my TV schedule will be close to bursting. As per usual I am trying to review as many shows as possible. But because of the sheer quantity of shows, I’ll keep the reviews rather short. You’ll get the gist of it!
Blindspot
Network: NBC
Cast: Jaimie Alexander, Sullivan Stapleton, Audrey Esparza, Rob Brown, Kelly Aaron, Caliph Jones, Michael Gaston, CJ Parson, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Ukweli Roach, …
As the trailer above shows quite well, Blindspot is about a woman with tons of tattoos but no memory. My first impression was that it looks really good, but in the end the pilot didn’t blow me away. Jaimie Alexander definitely has it down to look really scared and confused while being fierce to no end. However, the situation is just not that believable. I just can’t get it into my head that a federal agency would let a civilian with amnesia tag along and their lack of control over said person is frightening. I mean they just let her wander around and get into all sorts of trouble.
Also, I am afraid the show will have a sort of villain-of-the-week-theme and that can get boring easily. Nonetheless, the concept is still interesting and I’ll definitely continue to check it out for a couple of more episodes. After all, I do want to know what’s up with those mysterious tattoos.
Minority Report
Network: FOX
Cast: Stark Sands, Meagan Good, Nick Zano, Wilmer Valderrama,Β Laura Regan, …
So, obviously this show is connected to the movie of the same title. It takes place 10 years after the end of Precrime and focuses on one of the PreCogs who has difficulties adjusting to “normal” life.
I have watched the movie, but it’s been a while. Still, I think it was a mistake to set the show after Precrime has already been abolished. There is none of the moral dilemma as to whether it makes sense to arrest someone before they’ve actually committed a crime, because this time around it is all about catching the bad guys on time. Now it is just yet another cop show and the acting wasn’t really that breathtaking either.
Aside from FOX having a track record of cancelling sci-fi shows pretty fast, I have decided for myself that I won’t continue with that show, because it just didn’t really hit home with me.
What are your thoughts? Are you going to watch Blindspot or Minority Report?
Oh my goodness, I had no idea that Minority Report was made into a TV show! I always wondered what happened to the PreCogs after they moved to the country. I’m definitely going to check this out – I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

You definitely should!! I think I just personally wasn’t that invested in the story, so I didn’t enjoy it as much. I hope you like it though!

I know what you mean about Fox and sci-fi shows. They don’t have a good track period at all with those sort of shows, if you ask me, usually because they force creators to make all these changes and they don’t realize they’re messing with a good thing. They cancelled Dollhouse after they forced Joss Whedon to tone down certain aspects of the show because it sounded like Fox was portraying a form of prostitution, and ratings fell. And they increased the number of episodes in Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow from 12 to 18, with the last six being absolutely terrible and nearly getting the show canceled. I seriously worry about Season 3, seeing as they’re trying to change the show up a bit and even do a Bones crossover. God help us if these changes and gimmicks don’t go the way they planned!

Very well said! I still miss Dollhouse sometimes …

A lot of people do. It was pretty inventive, and the first season had some of its best episodes. Which goes to show, an executive in a boardroom shouldn’t go to the creators and act like he’s know better than they do about how to make or keep the show great.

I agree! FOX is also producing Lucifer and the Frankenstein Code and I am already worried about those shows, because I actually want to watch them (especially Lucifer – it’s awesome!)

Me too!
By the way, what’s the Frankenstein Code?

It’s a very modern adaptation of Frankenstein:

Looks pretty cool. Is that coming out this spring too?

i have no idea when it will start airing. Sometime 2016. Also I think they might have changed the title.

They did: I just found out they’ve renamed it “Lookinglass” (why I’m not sure, it sounds like it’s Alice in Wonderland-related now), and they don’t have an airdate yet, so we’ll have to stay tuned.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly!! If you google Lookingglass, there mostly only comes Alice stuff as a result.
I was so sure it would be this Fall, but I thought the same about Lucifer .. well, 2016 isn’t that far away.

I’m interested to hear your thoughts on Blindspot now that a few episodes have aired. I’m enjoying it, though I am getting sick of “Jane” screaming, “He could be the only one who knows anything about my identity!” I keep wanting to yell back, “We get it. You want to know who you are. But not everything is about you!”

It’s not my favourite show of the season, but I am intrigued about Jane being the FBI guy’s childhood friend. I am however glad that at least a couple of the people from the team are doubting her, because I still think it’s weird that she got to tag along so easily. And now she’s getting a gun … I still want to see where it’s going though.

I agree. It’s a bit weird. But I’m also watching Limitless, and that’s even weirder. The FBI supplies him with daily doses of an illegal drug that they don’t know the origin of. So of the two, Jane’s is actually the more believable circumstance. I think that’s the only reason I’m able to not think about it too hard.

I watch Limitless too, but I think that makes sense LOL. They want to see how the drug works in a controlled environment. He’s their lab rat in a way. Okay, well maybe making sense is a bit of an overstatement, but I am kind of enjoying Limitless more.

Hahaha! I think you’re right… “makes sense” is a bit of an overstatement. π But I’m really enjoying both shows. I anticipate riding them both out through the entire season.

They are both shows that have made the cut and stayed on my schedule. Many others did not make it (among them a ton of sitcoms …). For now Code Black, The Player, Quantico, Heroes Reborn and Casual have also made it π

Sounds like a great line-up!

I think I still need to cut something, because there are days where I watch 10 shows and that’s just too much and leads to a lot of fasting forward.
What are some shows you are watching?

Interestingly, I’m not keeping as many of the new shows as I thought I would. In addition to Blindspot and Limitless, I think I’m going to stick with Scream Queens and see where it goes. Grandfathered is cute and I may go back and pick up Life in Pieces. I have Heroes Reborn in my DVR, but haven’t looked at it yet. I’m already committed to the full season of Supergirl once it hits later this month. I’m eagerly awaiting some of the midseason stuff, too: Legends of Tomorrow, Lucifer and Lookinglass, which used to be The Frankenstein Code

Oh, I did not like Scream Queens at all!
I am really excited for Supergirl and the midseason shows as well though!

Also, did you see we nominated you for a Sunshine Award? No pressure to do the “acceptance post.” I thought you’d just like to know. π http://sistergeeks.net/2015/10/03/the-sunshine-award/

Thank you so much for nominating me! I must have missed it in my Reader somehow.
Would you mind if I just answered the questions in the comment section of your blog post? I am kind of overwhelmed with all the awards and am trying to cut back a little.

We totally understand that the awards can become overwhelming. We share the burden of answering them and still it can be a lot. That’s why I didn’t want you to feel pressured. We would LOVE to see your answers in the comments if you’re interesting in giving them to us. π
