It’s Top 5 Wednesday, a meme hosted by booktuber Lainey aka gingereadslainey for which you can join on the Goodreads page here. Topics have become increasingly difficult in my opinion, but today I actually found books that feature time travel rather quickly. Can’t say they are ALL my favourite, but most of them are really awesome!
Ruby Red Trilogy
I’ve read two of the books, but I am actually still missing the last one, because I need the movie tie-in to fit to the other books. They are sure taking their time with that series on screen … However, the teens in this series can travel into the past but not into the future. It would be too complicated to explain it in detail, but it’s a quick and fun read.
The Time Traveler’s Wife
I loved that story and I tried to read another book by Audrey Niffenegger afterwards, but it couldn’t even get close … The main character in The Time Traveler’s Wife would randomly be jumped to another time, but I don’t think he ever went farther back than his date of birth. He could go into the future though. It was a heartbreaking story, sometimes it still makes me sad to think about it.
The Time Keeper
I LOVE THIS BOOK! It’s not so much a book about time travel, but about how to spend the time you have the right way. It shows people a possible future, but they don’t actually travel there. That book had me crying so much and let me reevaluate time a lot. A very recommendable read!
Landline
Okay, so this is a little bit of unconventional time travel! The MC in Landline actually calls her husband back when he was still a student in university. I thought that idea was cool!
Outlander
Haven’t even finished the first book yet, but THAT SHOW! It tears your heart apart and makes you uncomfortable watching. It gives you all the possible feels and pulls you in a million directions at once in terms of what you want to happen. Season 2 is going to be epic too!
What are some time travel books you can think of? Have you read any of the ones I mentioned? Don’t hesitate to leave a link to your T5W in the comments!
The I-LOVE-THIS-BOOK intro for The Timekeeper makes my heart dance! ❤ ❤ ❤

I haven’t read any of those books, but I would love to read The Time Traveler’s Wife. Right now the only book I can think about with time travelling is The Next Together, and we both know how that one goes, haha. But I feel like lately time travelling is becoming a new YA trend..

I almost put The Next Together on the list as well and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children … but I didn’t actually like those books all that much.

I have read none of these. And I don’t really understand the obsession with Outlander, is it good?

I honestly am a little torn about Outlander. I adore the TV show, but I can’t quite get through the book. It’s not bad at all, it’s just a lot!

Interesting. First time I’ve ever heard that haha

Well, I like to colour outside the lines. Hahaha that’s a lie … I am actually very anxious not to do that when I colour something .. but you know the metaphor.

Yaaaassss Outlander! Great list! I admit I watched the Ruby Red movie that’s on YouTube. Its the German version with English dubbed. It gave me a good sense of the series.

I think the German one is the only one that exists, since it’s my primary language, that was just normal watching for me hahaha

I’ve never read any of these books but I’ve been meaning to read Outlander! I always hear little things about it every now and then and it keeps making me want to read it! Agh. I need to read more time travel books in general.

Technically speaking, Ender’s Game has a form of time travel, but it only goes forward. Still, it can mess you up, making you stay young while your psychotic older brother ages into an old man.

I read the Ruby Red Trilogy a few years ago, it was a really fun read! 😀 I haven’t seen the movies yet though. Are they good? Worth watching?
I can’t wait to start watching Outlander! Everyone seems to love that show and I want to be one of those people as well. 😉 (I don’t plan to read the books though, I don’t want to commit to such a long series.)

The movies are only available in German as far as I know and they changed a bunch from the books. Like the first two movies already feature stuff from the third book. I am not quite sure how they’ll finish it. The last movie is due this summer. I watched it with my cousin and we had fun, but mostly because we didn’t take it seriously and realised that it’s kind of targeted at a younger audience sometimes.

I see. I’ll most likely watch the movies ( I do speak German well enough 😀 ) when the third one comes out.
