T5W: Book Theme Songs

theme

With all the wrap ups and TBRs, I almost forgot that it’s time for Top 5 Wednesdays, a weekly meme created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know more or join as well, just go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. Today’s topic is Book Theme Songs, which means songs you associate with a book or that are sort of like a soundtrack to it. Since I love sharing some of my favourite songs and this being about books as well, I could not pass it up!

Your Soul by Rhodes – A Thousand Pieces of You

I’ve even mentioned this to Claudia Gray and she agreed that it fits Paul and Marguerite quite perfectly. We are going to ignore that I might have changed my mind in terms of ships in the sequel.

So Far Around the Bend by The National – Charlie St. Cloud

That song was in the trailer for the movie adaptation of the book and I downloaded it and never stopped listening to it while actually reading the book. Now they are eternally interlinked.

Cake by the Ocean by DNCE – Nowhere But Here

I have no idea why I associate those two so much. There is no ocean in that book, but maybe I sometimes think that’s how Oz saw Emily or at least secretly thought about her? No? I have no idea.

After Hours by We Are Scientists – Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist

That song makes me think of not wanting to go home at the end of the night and staying that bit longer that will make it such an epic adventure and that’s kind of what the book was about. Also, the song was featured in the movie.

Beautiful Crime by Tamer – The Wrath and the Dawn

I guess I listened to this one too many times while reading TWATD, but think about it. It sort of fits Khalid and Shazi really well.

So some of those were definitely the usual suspects on my playlist, but I hope I could also show you some new music! What are some songs you can’t seem to separate from a story?

June 2016 TBR

JuneTBR

New month, new goals – at least in terms of reading. Once again, I am just throwing everything I can think of in the TBR but I am not going to be sad if I don’t make. I like having some pressure to get through my ever growing list of books though, so here’s what I came up with:

  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
Third times the charm, so Cátia, Cristina and me are going to buddy read again. I think it will be good, because even though I am still blissfully unspoiled for the book, it seems there will be loads that needs talking about.
  • The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
This one I will read with Cátia as well! I am excited. After that one, I will have read all of Matson’s books – such an accomplishment!
  • Video Rage by Rami Ungar
It is the second book in the Reborn City series (you can read my first review here) and Rami was kind enough to send me a copy of the sequel, which is officially being released today – HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY! If you want to know more about the books and where to order them, just click here.
  • Gambit by C.L. Denault
I’ve been meaning to read this for a while and then I saw that it’s still on NetGalley and I got approved – yipi! I already started it and really like it so far – the Scottish vibes are definitely fun.
  • You Before Anyone Else by Julie Cross/Mark Perini
I need to catch up on some of my arcs, so I want to read it this month, but the review will probably go online in July. Does that make sense? I just want it to be closer to the actual release.
  • Children of Icarus by Caighlan Smith
While I like the premise of the arc, the publisher doesn’t provide a kindle copy, so I have to read it on my laptop and am not happy about that at all.
  • Whatever book OwlCrate decides to send me
That’s right! I FINALLY ORDERED A BOOK SUBSCRIPTION BOX! This month’s theme is Royalty (What book will it be? Maybe My Lady Jane? Maybe Queen of Hearts? The excitement is real!). It’s been announced that there will be a Funko mystery mini as well as original magnetic bookmarks by craftedvan. It’s not too late to order a box and I would love it if you used my referral link if you do want one by clicking here. Also, I got 10% off by using the code NEWMEMBER, so make sure to try that before check out!
