With all the wrap ups and TBRs, I almost forgot that it’s time for Top 5 Wednesdays, a weekly meme created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know more or join as well, just go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. Today’s topic is Book Theme Songs, which means songs you associate with a book or that are sort of like a soundtrack to it. Since I love sharing some of my favourite songs and this being about books as well, I could not pass it up!
Your Soul by Rhodes – A Thousand Pieces of You
I’ve even mentioned this to Claudia Gray and she agreed that it fits Paul and Marguerite quite perfectly. We are going to ignore that I might have changed my mind in terms of ships in the sequel.
So Far Around the Bend by The National – Charlie St. Cloud
That song was in the trailer for the movie adaptation of the book and I downloaded it and never stopped listening to it while actually reading the book. Now they are eternally interlinked.
Cake by the Ocean by DNCE – Nowhere But Here
I have no idea why I associate those two so much. There is no ocean in that book, but maybe I sometimes think that’s how Oz saw Emily or at least secretly thought about her? No? I have no idea.
After Hours by We Are Scientists – Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
That song makes me think of not wanting to go home at the end of the night and staying that bit longer that will make it such an epic adventure and that’s kind of what the book was about. Also, the song was featured in the movie.
Beautiful Crime by Tamer – The Wrath and the Dawn
I guess I listened to this one too many times while reading TWATD, but think about it. It sort of fits Khalid and Shazi really well.
So some of those were definitely the usual suspects on my playlist, but I hope I could also show you some new music! What are some songs you can’t seem to separate from a story?
Hahaha. I can see that now you would prefer if it was another person instead of Paul. I understand you XD
Why don’t I know most of these songs?? I need to stop listening to mainstream songs and listen to other things

Not even my closest friends know all of these songs. I have a weird taste in music but I like it that way. Keeps things interesting when you talk music with people and they are just like “who? What song? Never heard of it.”

True. That only happens with me if I talk about artists from other countries that are not US or UK.

See, I can get that reaction even with UK and US artists hahaha

I’m obsessed with Cake by the Ocean so now I feel like I have to read Nowhere but Here. HOW COULD YOU CHANGE SHIPS?! Paul is endgame!!

I am obsessed with the song too hahaha I laughed so much when I heard Nick Jonas on Carpool Karaoke tell the story about how the title of the song came to be.
Have you read Ten Thousand Skies Above You?

Lol, but I love Theo so much.

I feel like I still don’t know him very well, considering he wasn’t himself the entire first book

I feel like the complete opposite somehow. I feel like we got to know him very well in the past book and also through Marguerite’s memories.

We’ll have to agree to disagree haha

AHH I LOVE RHODES. The song does remind me of Paul/Marguerite especially when they were in their Russian versions. Still have to check out the sequel tho!

YAY! Rhodes is amazing! The Russiaverse was exactly what I was thinking about too.

YES YES YES let’s ship Marguerite and Theo together! 😛 And I love that you put Cake by the Ocean on this post. I really like that song, maybe it’s a huge reminder of how I used to have a crush on the singer in my teenage years…. or maybe it’s just catchy, hahaha 🙂

Wohooo!
And have you seen Carpool Karaoke with Nick Jonas? I laughed so much when he explained how they found the title for Cake by the Ocean. I had no idea.

I did, hahaha, I laughed so hard at this, but can’t say I’m really surprised. I mean, those purity rings were hiding wild people, hahaha 😛

Hahaha definitely! But still, how can you mix up Sex on the Beach with Cake by the Ocean? Cake is not a euphemism for sex, because if it were, so many conversations would suddenly turn into a weird direction.

Hahaha, I have no idea, and I really don’t wanna know how that happened, haha. It’s so funny though, how this song came alive, ahah 😛
