T5W: Favourite Character Names

It’s time for Top 5 Wednesdays, a weekly meme created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know more or join as well, just go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. The theme for today is favourite character names – for whatever reasons. I don’t really have a reason … other than they sound nice? So, this is going to be a short post.

Akinli (The Siren)

Akinli is the love interest in The Siren by Kiera Cass. He is sweet and kind of dorky in the most adorable way. Since the main focus of the story isn’t really on the love story, but more on sisterhood, there probably could have been more to his character. But this is about the name only, so it’s totally cool.

Sansa Stark (A Song of Ice and Fire)

I don’t just love her character, I also adore her name. It sounds strong and feminine at the same time.

Veronica Mars

Sticking to rules is boring, so I will use TV characters as well. There are Veronica Mars books out there, so it’s not like she isn’t a literary characters as well.

Jasper Frost (The Royals)

I don’t care if it’s his real name or not – Jasper Frost rules!

Sevro au Barca (Red Rising Trilogy)

Who comes up with a name like that? Pierce Brown, that’s who! That little savage has totally stolen my heart and turned into a favourite!

Honorable mentions:

  • Clara Oswald
  • River Song
  • Amelia Pond
  • Rip Hunter
  • Bellamy Blake
  • Magnus Bane
  • Caroline Forbes
  • Eleanor Henstridge
  • Rory Gilmore

What are some of your favourite names? Tell me all about it!

  1. Jasper Frost!! I really, really like him ever since that first episode of The Royals! I can’t wait for season 3. Anyway, my favorite names are Akiva from Daughters of Smoke and Bone, Kestrel from The Winner’s Curse, and Aria from Under the Never Sky ❤

  2. There is a character in the last book of the dust series called Rocket and I genuinely tried to convince Mr O that it might be a viable name for Little O. He was not amused or interested.

  3. There are so many cool names out there! I just did a review on A Darker Shade of Magic and had a comment about how I loved the names – like the wins, Astrid and Athos. How cool? The Red Rising trilogy has 1000000 good names. I love bizarre, fantasy world names 😀

  4. Magnus Bane and Rory Gilmore take the cake for me (and Sookie St. James I mean c’mon that just screams her personality right there! Different and wacky at the same time yet lovable).

  5. This a weird tag, tbh, but I’ve always liked the sound of Sansa’s name. I want to name my future baby Bernkastel because it sounds so weird and pretty at the same time, for genral information hahaha I am so weird

  6. All hail Sansa Stark. She is the one to look out for and I absolutely love her story arc this season. She’s finally gathering together everything she’s learned from watching the political games in King’s Landing and with Littlefinger and is using it to her own advantage. I’m telling you she will dominate.

Sevro au Barca ❤ Talk about a badass name.

  7. Oh my God, you would not believe how hard it was for me to pronounce Rory’s name at first xD That damn “R” sound is so hard for French people. I thought I had the sound figured out and I was pretty happy, and then bam, here’s a name with 2 R! You’ll be happy to know that my Rory sounds pretty good now 😀
    Also, Sansa Love ❤
