It’s time for Top 5 Wednesdays, a weekly meme created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know more or join as well, just go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. Today’s topic is Settings I Would Like to See More of, which was both difficult and easy at the same time. Here are my setting-wishes.
Contemporary Vienna
Authors either seem to associate Vienna with it’s imperial time or during WWII, but I just want a nice and normal (not typical Austrian-sadness and cynicism) contemporary novel, best case also YA. And I mean targeted at 17 year-olds and not 12. I want people to find a good medium and represent my hometown.
Underwater World without Mermaids
Does this sound weird? I like water and the ocean … maybe I just want something Atlantis-ish? I don’t even know, but I don’t want to write it myself, so I expect someone else to come up with it.
Cut off Civilization Living In Forest
Whenever scientist find a group of people living somewhere in the wild, cut off from everything, I am just so fascinated with how they live. Why not make up a whole book about them?
Greek Mythology Inspired
Everything that has a touch of Greek mythology is just awesome!
Oregon
Oregon has stolen my heart and I love it and people don’t use it enough as a backdrop, but it is gorgeous. I shall always squeal if it is mentioned!
What are some settings you would like to see? Tell me all about it!
Cut off Civilization Living In Forest!! YES!
Uh, and a love story between the scientist and one of the wild-ish people ❤ wait, that sounds like George of the jungle. DAMN IT!

When you said love story, my first thoughts went to Tarzan to be honest hahaha

Oh I would LOVE to read a contemporary set in Vienna! I think you should write it? 😛 ATLANTIS, that is a FANTASTIC idea. I’m okay with mermaids and everything, but writing about the ocean without that would be such a nice change 🙂

Somehow I am having a real tough time writing anything in my hometown. I think the language is confusing me in that regard. Like it doesn’t make sense that it’s not in German, you know?

OH yes, it does make sense, I never thought about it before, actually!

Also, I don’t mind mermaids, but I just have so many questions! How do they pee? How do they procreate? When they sleep, do they have to tie themselves with alge because they’d get swept away by the tide? Do they sleep lying down or just floating?

HAHAHAA Kat you got me laughing so hard. But you’re right, HOW do they do all these things? I’m confused now …

Those are important mermaid-related questions! They are not very logical beings, which they technically don’t need to be because they are magic.

Yes you’re right, but it does make you wonder… there are so many things left unsaid in magical stories, basic stuff like going to the bathroom or idk 😂😂

Oh definitely! You find out about all those difficult social system and what not, but you nver learn about the simple stuff.

The forest idea sounds amazing. On my post I have Venice, Paris, Barcelona.

I was close to choosing Venice as well. It’s just so magical in my mind.

Greek Mythology ❤ Have you read God behaving badly by Marie Phillips?

Cut off civilisation living in the forest? I’d read that any day! If you ever read a book with this setting, you have to tell me haha 😀

That one seems to speak to lot of people! I hope someone picks up the idea and gets us all a fitting book.

Oooh these all sound fun. I’d love an underwater setting as long as there are no sharks haha. I always find Vienna a bit fairytale like, so maybe a contemporary fairytale retelling could take place there? 😛

I LOVE fairy tales, so that would be interesting! I definitely wouldn’t mind adding magic to the mix.

Did I just see Atlantis? YES PLEASE. I’m not the biggest fan of mermaids and so I read a book that looks at underwater life but if we had an Atlantis like setting I’d be all over it.
I’d also love to see a contemporary set in Vienna, it’s a city I’ve always wanted to visit so I’m pretty sure a modern day contemporary would end up with me hopping on a plane so I can see everything in person haha.
My heart will never not be drawn to Greek mythology so I will devour any book set in that timeline.

I have nothing against mermaids, but I just think that a more Atlantis-ish setting would be even more interesting.
I really want someone to write a contemporary in Vienna that’s not for pre-schoolers or old people hahaha

Cut off civilization? Yes! That sounds amazing!
Also I’ve never thought about a book set in Oregon, but now that you’ve said it, I want it.

Oregon would be interesting in my opinion. It’s beautiful there!
