This month was like the month from hell in many regards that I really don’t want to get into now. Let’s just say that NOTHING went according to plan and there were very few pleasant occurrences, however, the reading (if less than usual) wasn’t so bad. I had literally every rating from 2.5 to 5 stars. So, there’s always that.
- A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (5 stars)
Read with Cátia and Cristina. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
I am currently reading it with Cátia. We’re both enjoying it and are more than halfway through it. So, it won’t take too much longer.- Video Rage by Rami Ungar (3 stars)
- Gambit by C.L. Denault (4.5 stars)
- You Before Anyone Else by Julie Cross/Mark Perini (4 stars)
- Children of Icarus by Caighlan Smith (2.5 stars)
Whatever book OwlCrate decides to send me
So, I was right and it turned out to be My Lady Jane, which has been exceeding ALL my expectations so far. I am like a third into the story and loving it! I planned an unboxing post for tomorrow (fingers crossed), where you’ll find more details.
Not on the initial TBR:
- This Is What Goodbye Looks Like by Olivia Rivers (3.5 stars)
Read with Cátia and Cristina.
As always, click on the titles above to get to the reviews (or on the name of the people I read the books with, to get to their reviews if they are up yet) and on the covers to be redirected to Goodreads!
I don’t even know what else to tell you. This month was honestly quite a blur of being sick and working, reading and watching TV and doing virtually NOTHING productive whatsoever. It’s okay though and I see all the good things happening in July for sure! (Hopefully … keep your fingers crossed!)
Now, I have found a good rhythm blogging for me, posting 4-5 times a week seems like a good amount without burning out. Also, I celebrated 3 years of blogging, which is SO AMAZING. Thank you so much for sticking around! I still can’t believe I’ve been doing this for so long, but I cannot imagine life without it anymore. So, here are the posts from June:

That’s good to hear! Well … 6 books is almost nothing for me. I usually read 2–3 books more than that hahaha

Aw that sucks, I’m usually at 6 books a month but last month I read 8 which was great and idk yet about this month, I may or may not finish another book tonight hahaha

Speaking of Red Rising, I’m listening to the audio book again, and I think that the movie adaptation might be better off as a Netflix series. I mean, that is a lot of material to cover. Even if you shorten the battles at the institution and a few other things, we’re still looking at maybe 2.5 hours. Perhaps the story might be better off in a format made for longer stories.

I can definitely see where you are coming from, but I am sure it won’t happen. It’s going to be made into a movie.

Hopefully a good one. It would suck if we had a repeat of Eragon, where they tried to shove a very complex story into two hours and it ended up losing some of the heart of the story.
And with such an epic tale, too! The fanbase would be pretty disappointed, to say the least.

Pierce was working in TV and movie before becoming an author and he is working with the person who writes the script very closely. They are taking the time to really do things right, so I have faith in them until they prove me otherwise.

Well, until then we’ve got plenty to keep us occupied, right?

By the way, I think I know what most of my family would be if we lived in the Red Rising universe. Obviously, I’d be a Violet, though I think I’d enjoy being a carver more than a writer (I’d get to make the monsters, instead of write about them. 😉 ); my mom and dad, being rabbis, would be Whites; my sister Adi would be a Brown, because she’s a professional baker; my mom’s wife, my stepmother, would be a Copper, because she’s an accountant; my dad’s wife, my other stepmother, would probably be an Orange, because she’s an engineer; and my other sisters haven’t chosen careers or career goals yet, so I have no idea what they’d be.
What would you and your family be? I guess you’d be a Violet, but I’ve been wrong before.

But the point of the colour system is that you don’t get to choose your colour. Your whole family would be one category, even if they didn’t like it. My eyes are brown, so are the ones of my parents … so I guess that’s what we would be.

Then I might be a blue, because my eyes are blue. But my dad’s eyes are brown, so…oh, this is scary. Still, I’d probably be a Violet.

I think I would want to be a Violet. Just not a Pink …

No one would want to be a Pink! It’s the worse class out there, for so many reasons.

Sorry to hear that you didn’t have a great month! Hope July’s better for you, and congratulations on three years of blogging. ❤
I've been seeing My Lady Jane everywhere and while I'm ambivalent about it, I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying it so far. I think I'm just a bit confused like… is it YA? Is it historical? Is it modern historical? Yeah, I dunno. 😛

Thank you! I am putting all my faith in July for now.
So, I would say My Lady Jane is alternate historical YA Fantasy. It’s super fun, but I am definitely going to write a full review as soon as I am done 😀
