T5W: Characters I WOULDN’T Trade Places With

It’s time for Top 5 Wednesdays, a weekly meme created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know more or join as well, just go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. I haven’t done this in the past couple of weeks, because the topics felt like something I had done before. But here we are today with Characters I would NOT want to trade places with! We always talk about the cool people we want to be alike, but there is also hardship and loss, so here are some characters that have had it tough or that I simply wouldn’t want to be.

Darrow – Red Rising

Bildergebnis für red risingDarrow has so much responsibilities and his friends and family are basically dying left and right. I don’t know how he can bear it and keep the eyes on the prize. I probably would have crumbled right in the beginning, but that guy is in it for the long game. I admire him in so many ways, but never ever would I want to be him.

Juliette – Shatter Me

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)I am not talking about Juliette from the end of the series, but how terrible must it have been to not be able to control that power? To always have to fear that you would hurt someone. It seems like such a lonely existence.

Mark Watney – The Martian

The MartianSpeaking of lonely! Mark is the man! I adore him and want someone like him in my life, but I would have DIED on Mars. It’s not just that I am crappy at growing potatoes (which I actually tried and almost all the plants died), but I mean, that man is basically indestructible.

James Moriarty – Lock & Mori

Lock & Mori (Lock & Mori, #1)Mori is such a strong character, but I wouldn’t want to have her problems at home. I am not surprised her morals get twisted in the process. A romance with Sherlock on the other hand … I might be up for that.

Joss Byrd – Unscripted Joss Byrd

Unscripted Joss ByrdI am in the first third of the book and I would LOVE to have the acting talent of Joss, but her mom is one of the worst mothers I have read about. That kid does not have an easy life in so many ways and that makes me sad. On the one hand they expect her to be all grown up and on the other hand treat her like a stupid kid. How is that supposed to make her feel?

Who are some characters you wouldn’t want to trade places with? Tell me all about it!

  1. Oh yes, I would never want to trade places with Juliette, what a lonely way to live, I would go CRAZY. Great choices! This only reminds me I forgot to include Red Rising in my last order (I probably had too many books already, though, hahaha), but I need to read that series as soon as I can 🙂

  2. My very first thought when I saw this was Katniss Everdeen. I would not have wanted to be in her position. Nope, send me to Harry Potter instead. I’d also choose somebody from the Game of Thrones series because some people are just in really bad positions. I completely agree with your choice of Mark Watney! I would not have even been able to survive a week!
