Where January felt like a lifetime in itself, February was once again gone in the blink of an eye. I don’t even know what I did all month long, I just know that I didn’t read very much … to be fair, I was a bit pre-occupied with other things, but here are the books that I did manage to get to:
- Born a Crime by Trevor Noah (5 stars)
I just found out that Lupita Nyong’o read the book, loved it and immediately asked Trevor if she could play his mother in the movie adaptation and IT IS HAPPENING! I am so excited!! - Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon (3.5 stars)
So, I am not going to write a full review for this, which means this kind of mini-review is all you are getting. I thought the book was cute. I loved the format with all the pictures and graphs and e-mails, because they just lighten up a story like this one. I am not too fond of the twist, not just because it is ableist, but also because it felt rushed and never fully resolved. Also, the romance department was vastly disappointing in the end.
Just like always, click on the title to get to the review on the blog (if there is one) and on the cover to get re-directed to Goodreads!
Just a quick update on the job search … well, I still don’t have a job. It’s bothering me quite a bit, but that’s life right now and the unemployment office is making me take classes and workshops which will at least keep me busy during the next month. Maybe I will even learn something really interesting! *trying to tackle this with as much positivity as possible*
As I have mentioned above, I was a little pre-occupied this month with things other than reading. For one, I blogged like crazy again. I think there wasn’t a week where I didn’t knock out at least 5 posts, which I haven’t done in a long time. BUT I also worked on another project – my very own art instagram profile!
Please feel free to add me via katimpossibledraws or simply click here. I am not yet super happy with the quality of the photos that I take of my art work, but I am learning a bit every day. Most of what I do is made with watercolors and colored pencils, but I also threw in some regular pencil sketches. I do want to venture into digital art at some point, but … let’s just say I either have the completely wrong software or I am far from talented with a graphic tablet so far.
Also, low-key not over the fact that Michiel Huisman didn’t just SEE my art for his movie Irreplaceable You, but he also liked it AND commented on it.

I hope you had a great month? What were you up to? What do you think of my art? Let’s chat!
Wow, cool month! Congrats on getting your artwork noticed and appreciated!! You deserve it ❤
What were your thoughts on Everything, Everything? Have you also read The Sun Is Also A Star? I feel like the latter was much better, but that only serves to see how much Nicola Yoon's progressed… Great post! Here's to an even more productive March, haha!

Thank you! I was really nervous to share my artwork, but that just made it all the better when people reacted positively to it!
As for Everything, Everything – as I said in my mini-review, I liked the format with all the drawings and stuff, but the ending was sooo rushed. I would have preferred more detail on Maddy’s relationship with her mother and her mother’s mental health. Also, I thought it was weird that she just showed up again after weeks and months and Olly was happy, because I would have demanded an explanation and I would have liked to explore what happened to him some more as well. So, overall, it was cute, but just not that amazing in my eyes. The final third of the book really diminished the rating.

Honestly, I relate so much. I loved the twist itself, I would have very much liked to read more about it. Where are my receipts??
And yes, the situation with her mother was weird at best… Totally agree!

Awwww I like your art!! I really love seeing people still doing traditional art as well. Lots of my friends are digital artists and I love their work so much, but there’s always something that stands out to me when they do traditional art as well. It always looks so beautiful and natural.
Also, I’m intrigued by the problems with Everything, Everything as I haven’t heard anything regarding ableism?

Thank you so much! I feel like everyone is doing digital art, or at least polishes their regular art digitally somehow and that just makes me feel so outdated ..
Okay, so have you read Everything, Everything? How much are you willing to be spoiled if not?

I haven’t read it and have 0% interest in reading it so don’t mind any spoilers!

Okay, this might get a tad longer. So, Maddy has SCID, severe combined immunodeficiency, which prevents her from ever going outside or having contact with other people than her mum or her nurse. Cue the cute boy next door. Olly and Maddy fall for each other hard and Maddy knows that she won’t ever be happy with her confined lifestyle again. She runs away with Olly to Hawaii, fully knowing that it could kill her, but wanting to fulfill her dream of seeing the ocean at least once in her life. She gets severely sick there and her mum brings her back home where Maddy ceases to have contact with Olly, who then moves away. A doctor from Hawaii follows up with her, doubting the diagnosis of SCID for Maddy. It turns out her mother, a doctor as well, convinced herself that Maddy had the chronical disease after her husband and son died, to keep her safe and protected. Although Maddy’s immune system is severely weakened because of her upbringing, she is not actually sick. She is basically miraculously cured and can go be happily ever after with Olly. It reinforces the stigma that only “healthy” people can find their happiness, at least that’s what it felt like to me a little bit.

Oh wow your art looks incredible Kat (I’m thinking about starting an Instagram account again but more personal than bookish which epically failed for me last year, if I do I’ll definitely be following you). Also that’s great Michiel Huisman liked and commented on your picture, you must have been fangirling when you saw that right? 🙂
I’ll wish you luck on the job front, I hope things go well for you in March and hopefully those courses and workshops you’re going on will be a good experience as well.
Great post, and I hope you have a brilliant March too. 😀 ❤

I definitely don’t have a huge following on insta or anything like that, but there are these moments of success every now and then when a TV show or actor likes the picture. It just makes me feel very accomplished. I thought I had died when I saw Michiel in my mentions hahaha I adore the man!
Thanks so much! The job search is exhausting, but it will work out somehow.

It’s definitely a worthy accomplishment, and I think it’s great that actors get involved in their fandoms and with the fans you know? It’s nice to see and hear about.
That’s all right, and I’m sure things will look up for you soon as well Kat! 🙂

I love it whenever an actor engages with me, in whatever small way. It just shows that they care and appreciate the people that support them.

I love your art! And best of luck with the job hunt, you can do it!!! It’s amazing the amount of posts you can produce, I wish I can be like you. Instead I post one post a week max, and even now I’m struggling to find post ideas 🙂 Hope March will bring better reads and better things in general ❤

Awe, thank you so much ❤ my current post output really isn't what I would regularly do. Last year I maybe did 2 posts per week, but I now have the time to really do this and I also need to occupy my brain. I don't like being without a job all that much hahaha so, I am trying to stay busy.
I hope you will have fantastic March!!

Ugh, the job search. Been there, done that. It was spirit-draining. I hope you’re able to find something soon. And in the meantime, you could probably sell some of those pictures on Etsy for a decent price (just a suggestion).
I’m looking forward to reading Born a Crime.. It just arrived at my local library today, so I’ll probably pick it up Saturday.

There are quite a lot of legal copyright issues with selling fan art as well as me not knowing how I would have to tax incomes from Etsy/Redbubble and the likes. I have considered doing that for more than a year, so don’t believe I haven’t thought about it, but I just haven’t been able to talk to someone about the legal implications and I don’t want to do it before that.

Well, I hope you find the time to look that all up soon. And I hope the job search yields something that you can be passionate about.

Thank you so much! I think the biggest change will be that I have to leave home around 6.45 to get to classes on time haha

I was planning on reading Everything Everything before I saw the movie– but I ended up seeing the movie this month instead. I’ve heard cute things about the book but if the movie follows it well, I definitely agree that that twist and with the rushed ending, it really wasn’t my favorite.
You are so talented! Your artwork is magnificent!

I still haven’t watched the movie, but I can definitely see how it’s similar in many ways from what I saw in the trailer.
And thank you so much! The positive feedback means a lot to me 😀

While I liked Everything Everything, I had the same niggling problem as you about the ending and how it really didn’t feel resolved- so I do get where you’re coming from- and look forward to your full review. Don’t worry- the job will come! (we’ve all been there and it’s just important to stay positive- it’s just something that can take time) I love your art by the way (sorry, I don’t have instagram!) That’s so cool that the actor saw and loved your art!! 😀

As I mentioned in my mini-review, I am really not going to do a full one for Everything, Everything. Sometimes I am just not feeling it for some reason and I don’t want to force myself to write it
Yeah, I know it takes time. I just wish people weren’t so judgy about me living with my parents and such.
Also, thank you! I will try an feature one or two of my favourite artsy pieces in monthly wrap-ups or such for those who don’t have Insta.

Oh don’t worry- I’m living with my mum, so I can hardly judge! Also, I don’t know what it’s like where you are, but here it’s becoming pretty normal to have to move back home after uni/starting work. You’re welcome! That’s great 😀 I really look forward to it!! 😀

Usually people move out of their parents as soon as possible and once you moved out, you try to avoid coming back at all costs haha but since I always wanted to go abroad, I never looked into finding something for myself.

So happy everyone in the comments is appreciating your art, something entirely deserved!! ❤ You know I ADORE them, you’re incredibly talented!
I’m sorry about the job situation, I hope you can manage to find something soon, but at least you might learn something useful during those courses (my mom also did something similar while unemployed and she enjoyed those courses).
Also, Everything, Everything disappointed me too and her other book (The Sun is Also a Star too), for the same reason you stated here 😳

THANK YOU SO MUCH, MARTA!!! ❤ I will never get tired of people liking my art!!
Yeah, the job thing sucks. I am trying to be positive about the classes, but you don't know what kind of stuff I have to sit through. Maybe I will rant about that in DMs at some point haha be prepared!
Oh, I forgot all about The Sun is Also a Star. I feel like people either love her books or they feel more meh about them. I am sad I didn't love it.

I have to agree with you, February went by in the blink of an eye and for once, I am glad. I’m so over the winter season, I need spring and sunshine to bring some positivity in my life haha 🙂
I’m glad that you’re trying your best to be positive about your classes, Kat, I’m sure you can make the best of it, and you know I’m always here whenever you need or want to rant about it all and everything else, too. I’m always here to support you whenever you need it ❤
I'm thrilled that everyone is loving your art, you deserve all of the praise and more and I am so very proud of you for starting this out, I am sure you don't regret it right now, do you? 😉 I can't wait to see more of it all, you're doing awesome and everything is just soooooo pretty, I can never get enough of these 🙂
I hope your March started out wonderfully, Kat ❤ ❤

Thank you! It’s spirit draining to not have a real purpose or job, so I focus all my energy in hobbies like blogging, drawing and now the courses I have to attend. Their content isn’t super interesting, but it gets me out of the house and meeting new people doesn’t hurt either.
And YES! I am so glad you recognised Tahani right away. I did an annoyed-looking portray of her for Valentine’s Day haha
