Blogiversary Q&A (Part 1)

As part of my 5-year-blogiversary celebration, I gave you the chance to send in questions for me in return for being entered in my art giveaway. I’ll announce the winner at the end of the post and will send them a separate email to confirm their win! Here are now a couple of questions I received. I decided to split the post into two parts, just because I saw how long this one was getting. Enjoy!

What first drew you to blogging? (Sophie @Sophie’s Corner)

I think it was that need to share my passion with other people in a way that I maybe felt like I couldn’t do with anyone in real life. You know that feeling when you just can’t stop talking about a certain topic, but no one is actually listening? Well, I figured someone on the internet maybe would …

Do you have a blogging routine? (Sophie @Sophie’s Corner)

I wish I could say yes, but except for my Sunday trailer posts (which I have proudly kept up for more than 2 years now and never missed once), I don’t schedule or work on particular days. That might also explain why my posting schedule is pure chaos and constantly keeps changing!

If you could spotlight ONE blog post for everyone to see which would it be and why? (Lois @Midnight Musings)

I said this just yesterday, but I really am glad to have the “Let’s Talk About Arcadia!” post on the blog now. It might not be the most representative of my writing and I should update it more often, but I selfishly want this one to get a lot of traffic and lead people to my story on wattpad. I just love hearing what people think about it and to get their reaction on the characters and events that unfold.

Do you talk about your blog with people in real life? (Marie @Drizzle and Hurricane Book)

I do! At the very beginning, I had a period of time where I kept it secret from just about everyone (except maybe my parents), but as it grew and got followers, I got less hesitant to share. I even put the link for it on my CV and talk about it in job interviews these days.

Did you ever think you’d stick with blogging all these years? What makes you stick with it, even now? (Marie @Drizzle and Hurricane Book)

Honestly, no. It’s not that I particularly thought I would get bored, but something always suspected that life would get in the way and that I’d quit before the end of the first year. All the more reason to be happy now that I stuck with it, I suppose. And there is no real reason I still do. Blogging is just part of my life now and I wouldn’t even know how to disengage from doing it.

What piece of advice would you give to Kat from five years ago just starting out on her blogging journey? (Beth @Reading Every Night)

This is a good one! I think I might just tell her to be more active and post more regularly. Don’t quote me on that, but I believe I posted maybe 3-4 times a month and there is nothing wrong with that per se, but if you are just starting out and you WANT the traffic and engagement on your blog, then you have to also do the work.

Also if you could travel back to any time throughout the past five years of your blogging experience is there anything you’d change/do over again? (Beth @Reading Every Night)

Okay, so this might be a little bit of a weird one, but bare with me. Shortly after I hit my first year anniversary, I started watching this show called “Finding Carter” on TV. It featured an actor by the name of Caleb Ruminer and because there was very little to find about him on the internet, I decided to do a little post on him with the information I did find. Over night, my views EXPLODED, as in they went from 300 views a month to 4000 instead. I still have the post up now, but I feel a little embarrassed about having done such a poor portrait on a guy I neither know personally nor know much about in general. I don’t even know if the stuff I found is accurate. While it did get me a strange kind of exposure, I might not have written it as the person I am today. I just don’t think I could bring myself to do it now.

What is the best thing blogging has led you to discover? (Beth @Reading Every Night)

PEOPLE! FRIENDS! I love everyone I have met on here so much and talk to some of them not just on a regular but daily basis. I wouldn’t want to miss that for the life of me.

What do you think you’d be doing now if you weren’t blogging? (Beth @Reading Every Night)

As in right now? This second? Maybe watch a TV show or read a book? I’d probably still find some reason to browse the internet.

What is your favourite book of all time? (Sophie @Sophie’s Corner)

What a cruel, cruel question! Tell you what, I will give you a book that has come to me and enamored me immediately – Call Me By Your Name. It has flaws for sure, but it was written in a way I have not seen many stories told and will forever hold a special place in my heart.

What book/series would you want to be adapted into a TV series or a movie? (Sophie @Sophie’s Corner) | If you could adapt any book into a TV show or movie, which one would you choose and why? (Michelle @The Writing Hufflepuff)

There’s a lot of books I can imagine seeing on the big or small screen in the future. The one I am still baffled about not having happened yet though is the Night Circus. It would be perfect as a magical movie that just takes you to that whole other place. We have developed the technology to really bring that story to life and I just don’t understand why the people who optioned it a couple years back let that option expire.

What was your favorite book as a child? (Marie @Drizzle and Hurricane Book)

I had different books in different stages that I loved. I always adored Inkheart and Momo though!

One author you’d never read a book from? (or read again, if you tried it out and hated it?) (Marie @Drizzle and Hurricane Book)

Hmmm … probably James Dashner. I didn’t really like the Maze Runner books to begin with and then the sexual harassment allegations surfaced and now he’s just even less interesting than before. I don’t think I will miss his books on my shelf.

You have the chance to go for a cup of tea (so British) with your favourite author/actor/director. Who would your dream guest be and what would you ask them? (Lois @Midnight Musings)

Author – Pierce Brown and I would ask him to describe the process of the TV adaptation for Red Rising in as much detail as possible, since I know he is involved.

Actress – Bryce Dallas Howard! I just love the woman and I would ask her on her advice for getting taken seriously in the industry and how she battled all those people constantly asking her about her weight and work out regiment. She’s been very outspoken about how superficial this world is and I actually love that she isn’t the typical Hollywood size but gets to star in action movies like Jurassic World nonetheless.

Director – Taika Waititi or Ava DuVernay. I can’t choose! I’d just ask them about their work process.

I know my answers were probably boring, but I don’t think I would even be able to get a simple sentence out should I actually meet them.

What upcoming book/movie/TV show release are you the most excited for? (Beth @Reading Every Night)

Book – Odd One Out by Nic Stone. I have been promised an actually amazing love triangle!

Movie – Set It Up, because Zoey Deutch and Lucy Liu!!! Also, I adore cute RomComs!

TV Show – I know it just released, but Cloak and Dagger is amazing and I need for Freeform to not mess this up (especially since they also will release New Warriors, another Marvel show soon)

Don’t worry if your question didn’t show up today, there is a lot more to come! Lastly, I put all the names on tiny sheets of paper, threw them in a bowl and let my mum draw a name. I am very happy to announce that my friend Marie is the winner!!

If you missed out on winning this time around, you can be sure I will do another similar giveaway in the future. And if you want to ask some more questions, please don’t hesitate to do so in the comments!!

  1. Hold up sexual harrassment?? Yikes I did not know about that. While I enjoyed The Maze Runner trilogy at the time I wasn’t planning on reading any of his future books anyway since I loved interest, but definitely not supporting him now!

I haven’t had the chance to watch Cloak and Dagger yet but it looks amazing and I can’t wait to watch it it – I’m glad that you like it! 😀

    • Yes! It came out at the beginning of this year and with everything going on, I think it got lost a little bit. But I wasn’t even capable of being disappointed anymore because so many people turned out to be terrible.
I watched the first two episodes of Cloak and Dagger and IT IS SO GOOD! It’s very morally grey and packs a punch. I cannot wait for the future episodes.

      • Yeah there have been so many allegations it’s easy to miss some which is,, not good. Ugh same. I’m at the point were I’m just so tired that I barely feel anything when a new allegation comes out? I will always be angry and disgusted of course, but it’s like I’ve gone numb a bit.
Ahhh I’m so happy to hear that! I love shows like that. I can’t wait for exams to be over so I can catch up 😀

      • I hear you! That’s exactly what I meant as well. It’s not that I don’t think these people did terrible things, but at the same time, it feels like it happens everywhere and my reaction isn’t as volatile.

  2. HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY AGAIN, MY FAVORITE DINOSAUR of the blogging community, haha ❤ ❤ ❤
Like I expected, I loved reading your answers to these questions and obviously I have tons of things to say and I apologize for the endless comment here already.
You have been doing the Sunday trailer posts for two years?? Oh my. Everything feels so old all of a sudden hahaha.
I think it's so amazing to talk about your blog in job interviews – it's definitely something to be proud of and, hopefully, something that makes your CV stands out? At least, I want to hope so? haha.
I'm with you about not knowing what I would do if I weren't blogging – I feel like I wouldn't know how to quit?! It's an addiction? Well… there are worse addictions to have, I guess haha. I mean, somehow it would feel strange not to have blogging in our lives now. I guess it's been so long, it's really in us now haha.
You talking about Call Me By Your Name reminds me that I saw the book in a French bookshop the other day – it was in French, obviously, but it reminded me of you 🙂 I also saw The Night Circus at some point during my holidays… I really need to get that one, don't I, haha.
I'm with you on James Dashner. I liked The Maze Runner when I first read it, but I think re-reading it now would make me change my mind about it, somehow? Also, forever tainted by these sexual harrassment allegations, for sure :/
And hm… Pierce Brown. You would stare into his eyes for two full minutes before asking the question… RIGHT?! 😛
AND AHHHHHHHHHHHHH I FEEL LUCKY THANK YOU AGAIN AHHH I CAN'T WAIT to get my giveaway prize I am sure it will be amazing ❤ ❤ ❤ thank you SO, so, so so sooo MUCH again! ❤ ❤ ❤
Yeah, so… oops. That was longer than I expected somehow?! Sorry hahaha.

    • This comment is so long and I am LIVING for it hahaha
I know, I can’t believe it’s been two years of trailers already either, but it’s an easy post to do and I check out the trailers anyway haha so not a real surprise that I kept that one up.
You have to be careful with having a blog on your CV, because you don’t want the company to think you are more invested in your blog than your potential job, but if you have something to do with social media, PR and/or writing, it can be a great reference. Also, it’s a talking point in regards to my written English-skills, I suppose.
I just never really enjoyed the Maze Runner. The girl part was teeeeerrible and I don’t even remember her name now, which says a lot. I don’t know, I just was very bored reading it.
DON’T EXPOSE ME LIKE THAT!! Of course I would get super distracted by Pierce’s eyes … the man is gorgeous!
I am happy you won 😀 I can’t wait to get to work on your art piece.

      • It’s an easy post to do AND to be honest, I wouldn’t keep up with ANYTHING if it weren’t for your trailers posts, so THANK YOU FOR THAT haha.
Yeah – I don’t know how they really judge a blog on a resume though – so far it has helped me, I hope it will never NOT play in my favour, haha 🙂
Well, next time I’m ordering books, I need to be reminded to get that one haha 🙂
I AM SORRY I couldn’t help it. I know you too well. And I would probably stare at him way too long as well, if it were me. Can’t help itt haha. 😛
        I can’t WAIT ahhhhhh. ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      • Hahaha You are very welcome!
I hope it keeps playing in our favour as well. I mean, it shows we are creative, dedicated people. That’s a good thing.
And Pierce is a dreamboat, so yeah … I bet he gets stared in the eyes a lot. People can get lost in those!

  3. I’ve said it all over the internet, but a Night Circus movie TERRIFIES me. They would have to get it absolutely perfect or it would probably suck. I can just picture corny special effects and watered down plot points. But if it was good it would be SOOOOO GOOOOOOOD.

    Liked by 1 person

  4. Happy, happy blogiversary, Kat!! 5 years ahhh, you’re such an icon!! ❤

Ahhh I loved Inkheart!! ❤ I absolutely adored it as a kid (and I feel like this is another one of those books that are/were really popular in Austria?).

It's so cool that you actually link to your blog on your CV, though I couldn't imagine talking to people irl about my blog (yet?), let alone my prospective boss.

Also, we already talked about this once, but I'm such a Zoey Deutch fangirl, and I'm super excited about Set It Up as well!

(My questions: 1) Do you have blogging goals? If yes, what are they? 2) What is one thing you dislike about blogging? 3) Have people irl brought up things you wrote on your blog, and how did you feel about it? 4) Your all time favorite movie and/or TV show?)

    Liked by 1 person

    • Thanks!! I feel old and outdated haha but I will keep going.
Inkheart is so great! But I think that Cornelia Funke just worked well in the German market in general. So, yeah, it makes sense that her books were a thing in Austria too haha
It can be tricky to put your blog on your CV, because it kind of also depends which industry you are working for. I am mostly part of the film and TV biz as well as the creative industry in general, so I can use it as a reference for my writing and language skills, as well as a little social media connection. But you have to make sure that it doesn’t come across like your blog is more important than whatever job you are applying for.
Zoey Deutch is so amazing!! The movie comes out tomorrow and I will watch it right away.
      1) I don’t have any specific blogging goals. I would like to maybe make money with it one day or get so internet famous that I can go do red carpet interviews like some of the more popular booktubers got to do ahaha
      2) I don’t like the pressure that sometimes comes with blogging, although that is very likely more from within than external. I want to provide good content and that regularly, but sometimes it’s just not happening.
      3) My blog .. not so much? But I was photographed by paparazzi once while I met some of the cast of Supergirl and even back in Vienna people saw the images on Tumblr without me telling anyone about them. So, now I am a little infamous in some circles. Also, a friend once told me she wanted to recommend my blog to a girl at her uni and that girl knew about me already. Wicked feeling, let me tell you! Absolutely wicked and a little scary!
      4) I am sure that will be answered in part 2 of the q&a!!

      Liked by 1 person

  5. Congratulations Marie!!
I LOVE your answers to so many of these questions, firstly thank you for the Movie and TV trailers because now I have another 2 things to check out in the future. I would also love to meet Bryce Dallas Howard, she is phenomenal and from all the interviews I have seen of her she just seems so authentic.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Just you wait until the second part of the Q&A haha it will have a huge TV section 😀
And Bryce is so underrated. I adore her and her infectious laugh and the fact that she got mistaken for Jessica Chastain even before either one of them was famous and that they are friends now and support each other!

  6. Ooh, loved reading your answers! Congrats again on five amazing years, you’re dope for keeping this up for that long and being so amazing at it 😀 I have to say you were quite well off in the beginning, I had months in which I only posted *once* in the beginning of my blogging journey. Glad to say I was able to see sense at long last.
Great post and congrats again!! (also, congrats to Marie!!)

  7. Great answers for these questions Kat, I really loved reading this post and also I think it’s great how you talk about your blog with people outside of the WordPress community. Even though I’ve been blogging for so many years now I still don’t talk about my blog at all. My parents know about it but that’s it, no one else. Maybe one day I’ll get to the same stage you’re at, ready to share it with the world outside of the internet you know?
The Night Circus would be amazing as a movie, god I would give anything to see it adapted on the big screen (or small screen, I’d settle for a TV series if it came to it).
I found your answer about the Caleb Ruminer post really interesting to read. I guess it’s funny how looking back there are things we now know we could do a much better job of. Looking back there are a few things I wished I’d done different when i was first starting out but we learn from our experiences and it just makes us better bloggers. 🙂
    Great post! 😀 ❤

    • I don’t know when exactly I became comfortable sharing my blog with people irl, but it just sort of became a thing. And my friend once told me she wanted to recommend the blog to a friend at uni and she already knew about me from friends who knew me or something. It’s wild how that spread. I feel like a minor celeb sometimes haha
With that Caleb Ruminer post, I just really feel like I wouldn’t do any kind of superficial post like that anymore. Also, I’d try to actually contact the person and not just gather intel from dodgy sites haha

      Liked by 1 person

  8. Admit it, you want Pierce there so you can gaze into his piercing eyes. 😛 Yes to Bryce Dallas Howard. I love how outspoken she is about the superficialness of Hollywood. She hold her own and I love how real she is about it all.
I use to never talk about my blog at first as well, but when I saw how excited my mam was about it, I kind of got a confidence boost, although I still struggle when it comes to sharing it with some of the people in my community. I also realised just how much skills I’ve developed through starting a blog and I should utilise them. I’m pretty sure it’s why I was given the job at the library. Plus the time and dedication it takes to run a blog is a skill in itself, so we should be loud and proud about our sites!!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Why do you all have to keep exposing me like this!? Marie mentioned the same thing about his eyes hahaha but you have to admit, you CAN get lost in them!
I adore Bryce Dallas Howard to the moon and back. Every interview I read or watch just makes me like her even more. And her laughter is downright contagious.
Exactly! Blogging taught us valuable skills and we can definitely use those as a reference in job interviews. I didn’t know you were working at a library. Do you like it?

      Liked by 1 person

      • The jobs not bad. Everyone I work with is lovely and I do enjoy it most days, but it’s pretty boring as well. I’m hoping I can get the chance to work on developing a social media platform cause my boss is keen on having that presence developed, but what’s frustrating is how people just act like they know this is my calling when really I’m using the job as a way of getting experience that’ll help me with my possible career in PR.

        Liked by 1 person

      • Ideally it’s what I’d love to do, but it’s finding relevant experience that’s hard, especially in such a rural area. So I’ll take what I can get haha

        Liked by 1 person

      • I get it. I have similar issues to an extent for my industry and I live in a big city haha would moving someplace else be an option for you? Not that you have to, you seem to do quite well at creating the job you want 😉 but I am just curious.

  9. Hi Kat, still remember me?? Hahaha I just came back from a year long hiatus and here you are celebrating your 5 blogversary, congratulation! ❤ I relate to most of your answers here, especially the sharing your passion one. I didn't really plan to get back into blogging because life is super busy at the moment, but each day I have all these things I want to share with people and that's the reason I finally came back : to share my passion and have people read them hahaha

  10. Hello Kat ❤
Loved reading your answers! I always enjoy learning about what draws people to blogging. I also love that I am able to share my interests and passions with people in a non-intrusive way. It is a bonus to find other people with similar interests!
That's cool that you don't stick to a routine when it comes to blogging. I think everyone has a different approach that works for us. If I don't have a routine, I think blogging would drive me crazy haha 🙂
I think I've heard you talk about Call Me By Your Name before. Sounds like a great book that I will want to read one day 🙂 I really loved The Night Circus and would love to see it adapted into a movie as well!

    • I am glad you feel like you got to know me better 😀
Hey, it’s totally the same with how we are all different with writing. Some people are pantsers, some are planers and some are plantsers. What works for one person in blogging might not work for another. I just know that if I personally had a schedule or routine, I would get stressed out, which would result in me posting less. I don’t think I could have lasted five years that way haha
