So, this Wrap-Up is going to look a little different than the previous posts. For one, I think I haven’t read a single book, which means my usual monthly read section is empty. I actually started three or so different ones, but I just didn’t make it through any of them before leaving for Berlin, which brings me to my second point – I AM IN BERLIN!
As I mentioned in my July wrap-up, I got an internship here for six months and I cannot wait to start working on Monday. I have been abroad several times, mostly for a longer duration and it’s always an adventure, but don’t let that fool you. It’s not easy!
There is always so much to do beforehand and I figure it will be fine, because I have done all of it in some shape or form many times before. Well, that’s just not how this works. The bureaucratic stuff that needs doing is always different and sometimes it is not even clear what exactly it is. Once you’ve figured that out, there’s still various hurdles of when and where you are able to actually do the registration or application or whatever. It’s a very annoying process that will forever frustrate me.
Aside from that, there are still so many other factors. I always feel strange coming into a new place, especially when I know I will stay there for a while. You cannot just make any place your immediate home, or at least I can’t. In this case, I know the language (even if I don’t understand everything. Let’s be real, they might not understand everything I say either) but I still feel like a little alien. Every place has this distinct vibe about it. You see it in the clothing, the way people talk, walk and behave, it’s littler mannerisms that only the locals know how to interpret and react to. Sometimes you click immediately with a place, sometimes it’s a slow burn romance and in worst case scenarios the city and you don’t warm up to each other at all. I can’t say which one Berlin will be just yet, but there’s going to be ups and downs. My flat doesn’t really feel like mine yet, but I am going to make it just that. And I am going to find the people and community that can make any place worthwhile. It all just takes time.
That’s really all I can tell you about Berlin so far. I haven’t blogged as much in the past month and I have no idea how the next month will be, but I am looking forward to finding out. I also haven’t blog-hopped as much, so I am sorry for not having the usual categories where I highlight other people’s posts. I hope to catch up and be more engaged once I have really settled a bit.
FAVOURITE THING OF THE MONTH
It was without a doubt – To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before! I have watched the movie several times by now and it is still so cute. There were quite a couple changes to the book and I am actually more than happy with most of them, to the point where I liked characters better in the movie than I did in the book. I hope the success of the movie (I think most of my bookish friends and everyone who is thirsty for Noah has watched it) will lead to sequels in the near future.
Now I cannot wait to hype Sierra Burgess is a Loser in a week!!!

How was your month? I did a lot of things to distract me from my worries, like start learning Norwegian and start a new #witchyWIP (hope the ones of you who know how to access it keep enjoying it, more is to come!). Do you also start random things when you don’t want to focus on what’s making you anxious?
I wish you the best of luck with your internship and I hope you end up loving Berlin!!! I think it’s so cool that you’re able to travel so much and stay in different places for a while, though I can’t imagine how scary it must be too. TATBILB YASSSSS – and Noah β€ I've only watched it once but I have been watching their interviews on youtube lol I might be obsessed with him and Lana

Thaaaank you! I still believe Vancouver is my one true love, but I am willing to give Berlin a chance. It could be a real good thing as long as I let it haha
The interviews are so funny! I love their dynamic and I swear, Lana is beauty personified. I am super pumped she has a lead role in Deadly Class and will be on our screens more often.

I am so pumped for the show, but still devastated I never saw them when they were filming TATBILB in Vancouver haha there were signs everywhere, but I just didn’t go to set and the regrets are big right now.

OMGGGGGGGGG you missed such an opportunity! You still got to see a lot of other great films and shows getting filmed though π

I KNOOOW! BUT I am hoping that if they do the sequels, they might do them in Vancouver again and I will plan my next trip there around their shooting days haha

Yeah, I hate all that bureaucratic stuff as well (and my day job is a bureaucrat!). Hope everything goes well, anyway, and that you’re able to find time to do the things you love, whether that be watching or reading or whatever.

I have done all the things I can do from my side, so if anything should go wrong, it’s not on me haha

That’s good to know. Fingers crossed that it goes well.

Good luck with your internship, Kat! I totally understand what you mean about all the “bureaucratic stuff.” I live in Japan and well…let’s just say I have some pretty great Visa war stories. I hope you can find a groove in your new living place and make it feel like home!

Thanks so much, Kat! All the paperwork always gets to me. I literally only moved within the EU, so it should not have been this hard haha but oh well, I’ve done everything I should on my part, so it will be fine. It’s not as tricky as it was when I went to the US or Canada.

Agreed. Paperwork is such a killer. I sometimes wish it was easier to live in a country other than your own, you know? Like, I want to be here, but why does it have to be so dang difficult? haha oh well Β―\_(γ)_/Β―

Wow! Berlin! I hope you’re having a great time, but I can see it would be scary and a little difficult. Particularly at first. I also distract myself when I’m feeling anxious about things, usually by throwing myself obsessively into something – like my blog, or a writing project… kind of works for me…?? Ish. Not sure anything works with feeling anxious tbh!

I am always excited to go to new places, but at the same time I arrive and can’t help but think “what have you done!?”. The feeling goes away after a while and random distractions are always neat, even if they don’t dissolve the anxiety entirely. π

I can’t imagine how stressful it must be to get to a whole new place like that and I don’t know if I told you in all of our conversations, but I’m so happy and proud of you for doing that. I hope you’ll be able to make Berlin your home soon and that you’ll enjoy your internship – I want to know ALL about it π β€

Awee, thank you, Marie!! I am proud of myself too, because I think this was an inevitable step in terms of my career. There are just so much more opportunities in Berlin than there are in Vienna.

Also YES to all the boys I loved before. I was not pulled in by the hype but decided to watch it on a complete whim and I ended up loving it SOOOOOO much. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it!

Oh good luck with your internship Kat, I bet you can’t wait to get started on Monday. π β€ I'll definitely be thinking of you but I'm sure you'll be amazing. I really hope you're enjoying Berlin too, and I suppose with everything going on it's no surprise you haven't got much reading done this month. π
I've heard so so many amazing things about To All the Boys I've Loved Before. I really need to watch that movie but I'm thinking I should do a re-read of the books first (and finally get around to the third book) make it a whole thing you know?
Anyways, great post, and I hope you have an incredible September as well. π β€

Thanks, Beth! I am trying not to think about the internship too much yet, because I cannot really picture what it’s going to look like.
You really should watch to all the boys! You don’t really have to read all the books beforehand though, it’s really just the first one. But it’s obviously up to you!

That’s all right, and oh that sounds like a good idea. That way you have no expectations and I’m sure it will make your first day that little bit easier right?
That’s just my preference, when it comes to book to film adaptations I have to read the book beforehand. π

I am obviously still nervous about it, but I am sure it’s going to be fine. It just takes time to get used to everything haha

I hope you feel at home in Berlin soon, sometimes it really takes a bit to feel comfortable π Watching the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie was a definite highlight for me as well, so cute, so rewatchable! I’m also super excited for your witchyWIP and will try to read it soon, as I haven’t had the time yet π

Thanks, I am already getting used to the roads and certain places. It’s all just a matter of time. π And take your time with the witchy WIP, no pressure from me!

Hello Kat!
Wow, that’s awesome that you got an internship. I get that it can feel daunting to move to a new place and get used to a new culture, especially knowing that you’ll be there for a while. How are you settling in? Hope that you will like Berlin.
I’ve been wanting to watch To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, especially since I loved the book series so much!! Does the movie go up to the end of the first book or does it span the entire series? Glad to hear that you liked it. I’ll have to watch it soon π

Hi Sophie! I am settling in alright. Thanks for asking π It all just takes a bit of time, but mostly I’ve been to work too exhausted afterwards to do anything else.
As far as To All the Boys is concerned, it covers a bit more than the first book, but I haven’t read the others. I don’t think it goes very far. It just gives it less of a cliffhanger ending, which is very nice.

That’s great to hear that you’re settling in. Hope that you will enjoy the rest of this experience π Looking forward to hearing about your adventures if you get a chance to explore!
I’ll have to watch To All the Boys soon π

Aww, good luck in Berlin girl! It’s got to be scary starting a new internship let alone having to adjust to a new country. I’m about to move out of my apartment for my new job next week, so I’m already feeling you when you say that you’re feeling a tad out of place. Hopefully you adjust well. π I’ll be rooting for you!
(Btw, that Star Wars gif is life. I crack up at that skit every time. π)

Thank you! It’s always scary and nerve-racking, but somehow I ALWAYS find myself in these situations. I feel like I should be used to it by now haha
I’ll be rooting for you to fit in as well.
THAT SKIT IS FOREVER ONE OF MY FAVES!!!
