I am currently writing this post from my parent’s place in Vienna as I am spending a sort of long weekend here. Aside from preparation for this, I also managed to sprain my ankle on Friday (the way it happened was really dumb, but I am fine) and that kept me a little preoccupied to say the least. That’s all I have to say about my glaring absence from this blog, here are your trailers:
Movies
Aladdin
Let’s be real, this doesn’t give us much except for nostalgia for the original soundtrack yet, so I am going to reserve judgment.
Time Freak
It reminds me of old movies and seems lame in so many ways, but I think I want to watch it?
Jonathan
There’s definitely potential here!
Ben Is Back
This is stressful in a way and I am not even a mother.
Glass
I still feel like I should maybe catch up on these movies … or at least Split? I don’t even know …
The Best of Enemies
Taraji P. Henson AND Sam Rockwell? Count me in!
Here and Now
I thought this was like the HBO show but nope.
The Christmas Chronicles
I have a feeling they saw how well Christmas movies worked last year and then they decided to make this.
TV Shows
Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.
This looks ridiculously corny.
Westside
Is this like a real-life version of Fame?
Light as a Feather
Creepiness and witches are having a big comeback on TV.
The Kominsky Method
It’s like Grace & Frankie for dudes?
The Little Drummer Girl
Park Chan Wook and John Le Carre sounds like a nice combo.
Siren (Season 2)
Since I never watched the first season, I have no thoughts on this.
What are you watching? What is on your watchlist? Tell me all about it in the comments below!
Thoughts:
1. Aladdin: I’ll need a bit more before I decide whether or not I want to watch this. Though I do hope they do explore the possible consequences of putting someone with no leadership or political experience in line to be leader of an entire nation in the new film. They totally skipped over that in the original film.
2. Glass: Definitely check out Unbreakable and Split. Believe me, they are very good.
3. Light as a Feather: I’m in.

Aladdin already has a lot of controversy. They spray-tanned extras on set to make them look more middle eastern. They cast an Indian woman for a role that should have been cast by someone from an Arab country. Stuff like that.
Light as a Feather is also a book, just in case you want to check that out.

I didn’t know that. I’ll look it up. Thanks!

I’ve heard about The Little Drummer Girl and it sounds interesting. I’ve seen the trailer and it looks really good, plus the cast for this is great also. I usually try to read the book for tv adaptations first, but I’m probably going to just end up watching this and skipping the book.
I saw about half the first season of Sirens. It was okay. Actually reading this reminded me I never first the first season yet, so thanks, LoL.
So far my favorite new comedy of the fall season is Single Parents on ABC, and favorite new drama is You on Lifetime. I read the book beforehand and the adaptation is pretty perfect with a few changes here and there, but it still really works for the story. I also have been liking the new CBS drama God Friended Me.
It’s not new but the first episode for the season premiere of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was so good. So bummed the show is ending after this season. I’m kind of in a bit of denial about it ending, LoL, it’s still just so good.

I don’t think Le Carre’s books are for me in general as it’s not a genre I enjoy reading, but watching it seems more interesting to me.
I haven’t really been able to watch many new shows, but I am happy to see you excited. I did check out God Friended Me and it gave me distant vibes of Joan of Arcadia, which I used to love in my teens.

I agree with you about reserving judgement on Aladdin. I’m not confident in Guy Ritchie as a director, but I hope that Aladdin is quality!
Be proud of me cause I have finally started watching the Punisher!
Hope your ankle heals up nicely.

I like Guy Ritchie in general, but maybe not for this?
I AM PROUD! Punisher for the win!!
Thank you. The ankle is coming along 🙂

Yeah there’s not a lot to go on from that Aladdin teaser trailer. It’s funny how there was a phase of no Christmas movies coming out for ages (or maybe that was just me) and now there’s this. And yeah I’ve noticed the return of creepy/witchy things too.
I hope your ankle gets better quickly!

I think there was always these kind of super cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies, but not so many kids or family movies.
Thank you! The ankle is still annoying but noticeably better 🙂

Ah well I hope it continues to improve!

[…] Kat‘s bookish taste is very diverse, if you’re asking me, she has favorites across many genres and that’s why she’s so great at recommending books because you can ask her a specific genre and she’ll come up with a list of her favorite books from that genre. […]

After the Beauty and the Beast remake, I’m not expecting much from Aladdin. Angela Lansbury was the best Mrs. Potts and I can’t imagine the Genie without Robin Williams’ voice.

While I do understand that, I never watched the English version of the animated Aladdin, so I can’t actually relate to that particular case (I’ve only seen the German one). I am just curious how the Genie is going to look like …

I hadn’t seen that Aladdin trailer—you’re right that it doesn’t give us much, but I’m hopeful that they’ll do a good job with it (even though I read in one of your comments that there’s some controversy with it).

I still hope it will be nice to watch as well, although I will be cautious.
