So, I had one of the best nights ever last Friday (which was the night of the Hozier concert), but I think I will save that story for the monthly wrap-up. (Remind me to talk about it in case I forget though!) For now I will stick to trailers and here they are:
Movies
The Lion King
I am probably more critical towards this than others, but I once again didn’t need it to be remade. And can you call it live action if EVERYTHING is CGI? I know this awoke a lot of feels for people though, so I am just going to keep my mouth shut from here on out.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part
I … think I saw the first one? It didn’t leave much of an impression on me to be honest.
The Secret Life of Pets 2
Are they releasing a new character promo each week?
After
No words for this. Well, no, actually there is one – WHY? (Seems like wattpad adaptations are on the rise)
What Men Want
I was sad they dropped the Get Out reference from the previous trailer, but the Black Panther one was hilarious too.
Once Upon a Deadpool
The Princess Bride throwback killed me.
Serenity
I don’t even remember the first trailer ..
TV Shows
Tidelands
I am going to continue calling this an adult H2O, although it sounds more like sirens than mermaids. Please tell me they aren’t mixing those up again.
Pine Gap
In the beginning, I thought it looked boring, but … I don’t know. The secret love affair between agents from different countries. It could work for me.
Wayne
It looks interesting but … so much violence.
Perfume
They made a modern retelling of Perfume? Why?? Me knowing some of those actors doesn’t help either.
Death by Magic
No magicians were harmed during the filming of this series … or at least I assume they wouldn’t show it otherwise.
Proven Innocentย
It reminds me of Convicted, which only lasted one season … yeah, so no high hopes for this one.
DCTV Elseworlds Crossover
Since I only shared the one with Oliver as Barry … here’s the rest:
Future Man (Season 2)
Maybe I should watch S1 after all?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Season 6)
I am so glad it got saved.
What do you think of this week’s trailers? Anything catch your eye? Let’s talk about it in the comment section below!
I’m so excited for The Lion King. With the entire live action/cgi thing, using this mind-set wouldn’t most Marvel movies not be live action then? Like Thor… would that be live action? Either way, I absolutely ADORE The Lion King. I loved The Jungle Book live action. I think making these live actions nearly the same as the original is an ode to the original in a great way. I guess it’s cool to change things up but idk as someone that grew up with these movies, watching these live action remakes gives me nostalgia but in a new way. I don’t find myself going back and watching the originals again because I’m older now and I don’t watch animated movies often so these are amazing for me, personally.

Well, for me, live action means humans. You can see and recognise the actors as humans. Even with Thanos, you can see the facial expressions and such. I just thought they’d make the Lion King with a new interpretation with … well, humans or people? I guess it would have been a Shakesperean take rather than the Lion King then though.

Yeah I see what you mean. I’m not sure how humans would be incorporated, though. There is Dumbo coming up, though, and that has humans

Yeah, but I am not really into the new Dumbo either. I just don’t think the live-action craze is for me. But that’s alright. There’s plenty enough people who do enjoy it.

Only about half of the live actions I’ve actually been interested in, which are typically my favorites (beauty and the beast, the jungle book) and I’ve liked them but I also don’t think EVERY movie needs to be remade into a live action *eye roll* it gets a bit excessive at one point haha

Thoughts:
1. Lion King: Glad to see we’re mostly in agreement. Personally, I won’t go see this. I may just watch the original instead and pretend the “remake” never existed.
2. The Lego Movie 2: The song from the first film with Lonely Island was good, but the rest of the movie was pretty dumb and derivative, IMHO. I won’t go see the second one.
3. Secret Life of Pets 2: I’ve seen some of the promos for this one. The one where the dog goes to the vet was pretty funny. Other than that, no interest in this film
4. After: Maybe I need to post a novel on WattPad. Then it’ll get made into a movie or something.
5. Once Upon a Deadpool: I’m not sure whether or not I want to see this.

I may still watch the new Lion King, but I sure don’t feel as compelled as others.
Well, After was a One Direction fanfiction. So, I think that has more to do with its success rather than the fact that it was on wattpad.

So I’ll write a horror story with Harry Styles as a character in it. Instant success! ๐

I was thinking he’d be dead from the start. He just didn’t know it yet. ๐

That … could work.

It did in one horror film I watched earlier this year.

I understand where you’re coming from with not needing a remake of everything cause eventually they will just exhaust the original material and take the magic out of what made them such classics to start with. However, The Lion King was my childhood favourite and I did get a ton of feels from watching this teaser trailer. I just don’t want to have to relive the saddest moment of my childhood again.

I remember the Lion King being very present in my childhood but it was never a favourite of mine. I think that really played into this particular non-caring situation as well haha

Well I agree with every single one of your criticisms for the lion king remake- there was no reason to do it and I don’t see the point in doing the same movie (which worked great as a classic cartoon) in CGI. It’s a waste of time and I’m really done with these disney remakes now. I’m actually looking forward to the lego movie 2 though! (I really enjoyed the first one). I actually laughed in the trailer of After- yeah it looks like that came from Wattpad. Loved that once upon a deadpool trailer ๐ Yeah tidelands looks like another mermaids meet sirens story.

Oh, I didn’t just guess that After was a wattpad story. It really was. It’s One Direction fanfiction, but it’s an entire series that got traditionally published and that sold as bestsellers in several countries. It still gives me 50 shades vibes though haha

I watched the trailer for After and was both horrified and amused. When the guy asks her what she’s dreaming about, it’s such a creepy shot! It looks like a serial killer who broke into her bedroom while she was sleeping.
And I laughed SO HARD at the Up reference in Once Upon a Deadpool ๐
The Perfume adaptation looks interesting to me, but maybe that’s because I haven’t consumed this story yet. I haven’t read the book, nor have I seen the movie.

I am so weirded out by After. I think I’d watch it on a streaming website but never ever in a cinema. It’s just odd.
It’s definitely very different from the “original” Perfume, but if you feel like checking it out, you totally should!
