I like this little feature, because it briefly lets me tell you what I’ve been obsessing over. And since I don’t think anyone really minded me doing this the last time, here we go again! (If you’ve missed the previous installment of this rather new feature, click here to check it out!)
You
You is based on a book, that is ready to be read on my Kindle, but I made the executive decision to watch the show before diving into the written format. Not gonna lie, I am glad I watched it while I was at my parent’s place in Vienna and not all alone by myself in Berlin. As someone who has had bad experiences with strangers following me or calling me and knowing my address, that show creeped the hell out of me.
Joe is like the perfect guy on paper. What he shows the world is seriously what I would consider a dream partner – interested in books, kind, supportive, etc. but … this show is literally his inner monologue and it’s just terrifying. I definitely would not wish a stalker like that on anyone. Yet, at the same time, it was really fascinating to watch.
There was definitely a lot that I would say was predictable, but the story also took some really nice turns and the ending was brilliant and, at least to me, unexpected!
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch
Technically, Bandersnatch is an event movie, but it belongs to the Black Mirror series, so I am counting it in! Do you remember those “choose your own adventure”-books? I always used to love them as a kid and, well, Bandersnatch is a choose-your-own-adventure-film. It takes you down so many different roads, you almost feel like you are in inception. It gets super weird, which is very typical Black Mirror manner, and you don’t always get presented with options you even want to take, but the concept is still brilliant and makes something rather passive as watching a show super engaging.
I am far from having taken every possible option and I am not sure I ever will, but I seriously hope that Netflix will venture out to do more content like this. Not only does it protect them from piracy, but it’s also really, really fun.
Alexa & Katie (Season 2)
Alexa & Katie is one of those super light, yet with a touch of emotional seriousness shows that is perfect for binge-watching. You don’t need to pay super close attention, it’s fun but not the best thing ever. I have to say that I enjoyed Season 1 a little more than Season 2 and I was a little disappointed that the whole Katie-Lucas-thing was barely even addressed at all, but it was still nice.
Sometimes you just want a little bit of pure friendship on your screen and if you don’t mind the Disney/Nickelodeon type of storytelling, then this is probably for you!
Marvel’s Runaways (Season 2)
I am so, so, so happy they released the entire season at once and didn’t do it on a weekly basis again. Runaways is one of my absolute favourite Marvel shows and Season 2 has only strengthened that opinion. As I will be mostly talking about S2 today, you can check out my more detailed post on the show in general here.
As many of you know, Gert was my favourite character on the show so far and, again, I remain by that statement. I especially appreciated her mental health rep with a focus on anxiety this season. Her character is definitely not flawless and makes many a mistake, but somehow I just always connect with her the most and it was a pure joy watching her grow in these new episodes. Obviously, she wasn’t the only one going through some changes and I am just so elated that the show managed to give everyone new struggles, new challenges to face and just so much growth in general.
I think Runaways has the potential to really keep going for a lot of seasons and I hope people watch the show and make it happen! (as we all ignore how terrible Old Lace looks)
Have you watched any of these shows? Let’s chat!
You sounds super creepy hahaha. Stalker stuff creeps me out. Ooooh I watched the first episode of Runaways but never continued. Apparently my dad watched the first season on his own so my mom and I are going to have to catch up to him hahahaha.

You IS super creepy!!! And stalker stuff is so intense, because it isn’t fantasy or unrealistic, it happens quite a lot and is terrifying.
GO WATCH RUNAWAYS!!! (and then talk to me about it hahaha)

The things that creep me out the most is stuff like that where they can easily deceive people and act normal but they’re NOT. Hahaha I’ll try and tweet about it when I’m watching it

Exactly! I am scared of the same stuff!!

I really want to watch You!
We’ve been binging Homestead Rescue the past couple of days. Mostly because my daughter and husband are into it. I have to admit that I’ve been sucked in, too. It’s so interesting!

I can’t say that I know Homestead Rescue, but it’s always nice to really get sucked into a show in my opinion.

It’s about people who live off the grid and this family that goes around and helps them improve their situations.

Oooh, okay! That sounds interesting!

I haven’t watched any Black Mirror yet (I know, I know, I should but I haven’t), but the concept of a choose-your-own-adventure movie is interesting. Maybe I’ll check that out at least.
As for Runaways, I still have to catch up, but I’m looking forward to every episode.

HOW HAVE YOU NOT WATCHED ANY BLACK MIRROR EPISODE??? I mean, you don’t have to watch all of them, I sure didn’t, but it is some of the most brilliant television ever made. And it’s creepy!?

Ha ha! I react the same way to people who have never seen anime.

Well, I don’t react like that with anyone who hasn’t watched the show, just with you. Because you seem like THE target audience for it.

*shrugs* Guess I just haven’t felt like it yet.

I binge-watched the first 6 episodes of You, but haven’t had time to finish the season yet. I am loving it so far, though, it’s so creepy and atmospheric. I didn’t finish the book so I’m not sure what to expect from the ending, but I can’t wait to see it. (I do live alone, and have become far more aware of how large the windows in my apartment are)

You is great if you can stomach that sort of stuff ๐ I know a lot of people who are too creeped out by realistic stalking situations and I totally get that. I honestly was so glad that I wasn’t alone while watching that show. I mean … I was alone, but not in the apartment entirely haha Also, I hated living in a groundfloor apartment last year, so I am glad I could evade that afterwards.

I watched the trailer for YOU and really want to try it but also I’m so bad with anything scary so don’t know if I should…Perhaps its a day time watch with family around?

I am not sure you should watch it WITH family, but at least when you aren’t alone in the apartment. I don’t know .. stalking situations are unfortunately not so unrealistic, so it’s like double creepy.

I started YOU and watched an episode and I’ve kind of put it off… Boyyy Joe is creepy in Episode 1 so he’s going to get worse isn’t he! x

Oh yes, Joe gets so much worse!

I started watching You the other day and it is so creepy. Joe is so convincing in his charismatic charm, but also so calculated and twisted. I have an idea of where the show will go, but I feel like I’ll be on edge for most of it.
Bandersnatch looks like such a fun concept. I think me and my cousin will watch it in the next few days.

Joe is SO messed up and it makes sense and is also terrible and I was getting so paranoid haha but I loved the show! Tell me once you reach the end of the season, I’d like to know if it came close to what you guessed.
Weeeeeell, if you watch Bandersnatch with someone, you’ll have to decide who makes the decisions first ๐ there’s not a lot of time to argue.

Omg I don’t think that I can watch YOU it sounds super creepy and I think it would terrify me, I just cannot deal with that – I get a bit paranoid at night too, when I’m walking back to my flat ๐ But Marvel’s Runaways sounds great, I’ve seen lots of promising gifs on Tumblr too! ๐

I actually like walking around at night, but I’ve had some really bad experiences with stalker-like situations and the fact that the show isn’t entirely unrealistic is the most creepy thing about it.
Runaways is AWESOME!!

I still need to watch Runaways s2 which is ridiculous because I love it so much?? I’m very behind on pretty much everything that isn’t on Netflix haha. Like the other day I suddenly remembered I still haven’t watched Cloak and Dagger ๐

Season 2 was amazing and Gert’s mental health rep was what I was living for!!! I know you have loads on your plate and I don’t want to add or anything like that, but Cloak and Dagger is legit SO good haha

Yay! I love this new feature, Kat โค๏ธ I’m so sorry for missing the first one (I’ll definitely check it out) and hopefully I’ll be around for many more!
You is seriously creepy, but so so incredibly good! I made the unfortunate decision of starting it alone, it was creepy but I binged the entire season in one go. I haven’t read the book yet, but I really want to!
We only recently started with Black Mirror and I’m not really feeling it. I know everyone says it gets better, but does it really?
Can’t wait to see what you binge in 2019 โค๏ธ

You was freaky! But I liked it a lot. I am so glad I am not living on the ground floor anymore.
So, about Black Mirror. I didn’t like season 1 at all, enjoyed one episode of S2 and then two episode of S3 and three or four of S4. Therefore I’d say it gradually gets better. But I never even watch ALL the episodes. I would recommend Hang the DJ and San Junipero if you want something that is not SO messed up.

Luckikly I am also not on the ground floor. But you would’ve thought that Beck would invest in a pair of curtains giving that she was living on the ground floor. I’m really glad there’s going to be a season 2, I haven’t read the books yet so I have no idea in which direction it’s going to go.
Interesting. I’ll keep those shows in mind and thank you for being honest about Black Mirror ๐

Right? Curtains or shades would just be the logical choice. She must have known you can see straight into her bedroom and well flat in general.
Just to clarify, those recommendations were specific episodes from Black Mirror ๐

Oooh – definitely a Black Mirror noobie. If we decide to watch it (maybe someday) then I’ll keep those two episodes in mind ๐
