Trailers You Might Have Missed … (April 22-28)

As promised now also the trailers. I would never leave you hanging, as you already know because I keep mentioning it all the time that this is the longest streak of a feature I have had on my blog (just like I apparently had to mention it now …).

Movies

Men In Black International

If this movie flops, I am going to be sad. Tessa and Chris are a perfect comedic duo.

21 Bridges

Black Panther’s father died again … (Chadwick is just T’Challa forever now)

Gemini Man

I am impressed by the fact that they brought back the fresh prince, I mean, fresh face of Will’s past.

See You Yesterday

I like timey wimey stuff, I am in.

Murder Mystery

I am not an Adam Sandler person, but I might give this a try if I get bored.

Descendants 3

I still have no clue when this airs …

TV Shows

Dark (Season 2)

I am HYPE for this. Go watch and support German content on Netflix pretty please.

Lucifer (Season 4)

If I can’t get another season of Imposters, then I am at least glad Netflix isn’t wasting Inbar Lavi’s talent and putting her on Lucifer.

What/If

I have no idea what’s happening, but I am in.

Swamp Thing

This again, but a little more of it.

Despite Everything

Wait … so they just have to go look for their fathers? They don’t even get a clue as to who it could be?? Did I understand this trailer wrong???

Catch-22

Didn’t think Clooney would go back to doing a series.

Did anything catch your eye? Let’s hear about it!

What I’ve Been Binge-Watching #11

I promise the trailer post will come right after this, but I just don’t like it when there is nothing in between the weekly Sunday trailers. Since I did watch a couple things though, I thought I’d just throw in a little binge-watching one in the meantime.

Special

If you want something nice and quick to watch about and from a gay man with cerebral palsy, this is the show for you. Netflix has started to put out content with only about 15-ish minute episodes, so you will certainly fly through this program. Personally, I thought it could have handled a bit more depth and length overall, but if this was just the appetizer for what’s to come in (hopefully) future episodes and seasons, I am here for it! It all gives you more of a web-series vibe, which is totally fine by me and most of the time those shows have a higher output rate than regular TV shows.

No Good Nick

No Good Nick basically screams Nickelodeon or Disney Channel at me in the way that it tries to tackle hard topics for a younger audience, but doesn’t quite succeed to get it across in a serious manner because they still try to be wholesome at the same time. All in all, there is nothing per se wrong with that, but it is something you have to be prepared for when you start watching No Good Nick.

My favourite part of the show was seeing all the different family dynamics, but mostly Jeremy and Nick being suspicious of each other and trying to outsmart one another. Especially the last couple episodes really manifested my like for their dynamic and I am curious which way it would go should that show continue for a longer time.

BONDiNG

Who would have thought that I would really like a show about a guy who helps out at his best friend’s work, which is that of a dominatrix? Actually, never mind, I have watched way weirder stuff! Just like Special, this show has super short episodes and you can fly through it and despite the seemingly sex-heavy topic, it is really just a beautiful story about friendship. That’s probably the reason I enjoyed it so much, because who doesn’t like a good friendship-story? Also, it’s funny. We all need to laugh every now and then.

Dark

I finally watched it and don’t you dare judge me!! I watch so many shows and movies all the time, I am allowed to be behind on some things. However, the new season is releasing (somewhat) soon and I just wanted to get caught up on the hype. I really loved it! Knowing a ton of the faces in it and seeing this as a German production specifically for Netflix really made my heart sing. I honestly just want more content like it.

I don’t necessarily agree with it being the German Stranger Things, because the show being strange doesn’t really suffice as a parallel for me. Dark really manages to be what the title promises – really dark. However, it is also complex and intriguing and sometimes even scary (and I usually don’t do scary=). I adore it when shows are still able to surprise me as they go along and Dark definitely managed that. Anyway, great acting, great confusing storytelling and the certainty of another season around the corner. What more could you ask for? Although, one of the best parts was the music for sure. Just needed to add that too.

Lastly, if you want to see the guy who plays Jonas in Dark in a fantastic German movie, then go watch “Die Mitte der Welt”/”Center of My World” movie. (Click here for the trailer)

Have you watched some of these shows? What are your thoughts? Are you as excited for season 2 of Dark as me? Let’s chat!

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (April 15-21)

Even on holiday back at home in Vienna and on Easter Sunday, I am not shirking my responsibility of showing you the latest trailers. In addition to that, I also want to thank everyone for participating in the poll on Twitter about whether I should do reaction videos and for what content. I am super psyched to see so many people interested and am trying to figure out the technical details now. If anyone has recommendations on software (preferably free or cheap), I am all ears!

Movies

Avengers: Endgame

SOON!

Playmobil the Movie

I mean, if Lego gets a movie, Playmobil can do one too.

Hobbs & Shaw

The whole Fast and Furious franchise and now spin-offs have just become so ridiculous at some point.

Dark Phoenix

I so hope this doesn’t suck.

Clara

I think I have shared this before? But I still want to watch it.

Skin

Movies like that are not my cup of tea, but Jaime Bell gives another intense performance.

Rafiki

This movie got a lot of attention at film festivals for a reason.

Vita and Virginia

More f/f content.

A Violent Separation

I feel very meh about a lot of the trailers today.

We Have Always Lived in a Castle

I feel like this might work for fans of Stoker for some reason. So, beware, it’s creepy but … shirtless Sebastian Stan? It’s up to you.

The Perfection

This is super creepy.

TV Shows

Younger (Season 6)

Who else forgot everything that happened in Season 5 but is still really pumped?

When They See Us

My heart breaks at the fact that this happened for real.

Jinn

Not 100% into it, but I am most likely going to watch it anyway.

Swamp Thing

DC is just on fire releasing one show after the other.

The Boys

I hope this show sticks for Karl Urban’s sake. His stuff gets cancelled a lot.

The InBetween

It looks a little like something I already know and watching crime shows bores me, so I don’t know.

Tuca & Bertie

For fans of Bojack Horseman but more upbeat?

iZombie (Final Season)

The 100 (Season 6)

Which of these movies or shows are you interested in? Let’s talk about it!

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (April 8-14)

This was a glorious week for trailers! So much so that I feel like some upstaged others when they were released simultaneously. Anyway, check it all out for yourself!

Movies

Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker

Not gonna lie, I got chills and may have shed a tear.

I am part of the faction “if Rey turns out to be a Skywalker I will be disappointed cause it seems like a boring option”, but I am all for Leia adopting her.

The Lion King

You know what? I wasn’t fully on board with this and I think it doesn’t fall under the category “live action”, but this trailer. My oh my, it made me nostalgic and excited.

Pokémon Detective Pickachu

The pokémon look so weird but I cannot wait to watch it in full.

The Addams Family

I am living for the noose braids, but I’d actually have loved it if it had been live action because Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron could have pulled it off FOR SURE!

Stuber

I feel so sorry for Kumail’s character.

The Last Summer

This is probably going to be as mediocre-meh as The Perfect Date, but I will still watch it.

Anna

The fact that they mostly just show one fight scene is not very promising, but Cillian Murphy!!!

The Professor

I just can’t. Johnny Depp has lost all appeal for me. Not even the fact that this was filmed in Vancouver and I recognise half the locations helps.

Wine Country

Not sure I find this funny.

TV Shows

Veronica Mars

IT RETURNS!! WE HAVE A DATE!!! THIS IS REAL. You cannot believe how happy I am right now, because Veronica Mars was my hero growing up. Heck, she’s still my hero right now and I knew they were making a return with the show, I just didn’t know it would be so soon.

Lucifer (Season 4)

This tells you literally nothing except for the date of return.

Younger (Season 6)

It’s another date reveal!

American Horror Story (Season 9 – 1984)

Okay, so I watched the last season of AHS (Cody Fern be blessed), but I am not sure I am going to return. I think this was a one off for me.

Tales of the City

This has great emotional potential.

The Circle

Do you live in the US and have always dreamed of taking part in a super weird Netflix reality show? Here’s your chance!

Street Food

Netflix making you hungry once more.

Lunatics

Uhm … no, thank you.

Chambers

Too creepy realistic for comfort.

Do you want to watch any of the things mentioned here? What are you most excited about? Let’s talk!

What I’ve Been Binge-Watching #10

I feel like I have been very busy with work but also social activities in my free time lately, so I have no clue when I watched all of these shows, but they were enough to warrant another What I’ve Been Binge-Watching post … so, yeah, here you go!

Schitt’s Creek (Season 5)

I have talked about this show in detail, so if you want to check that out, you can click here. But honestly, I didn’t think Schitt’s Creek could get any better, but it still amazes me with every season. I am not someone who can easily stick with sitcoms, but this one just works on so many levels for so many generations. It’s not for nothing that I actually own a pillow with the magnificent pansexual icon we all need but don’t deserve that is David Rose on it.

I am willing to go so far as to say that this might have been my favourite David season so far. But the entire family just keeps on growing and making me love them so much, I ended up crying a couple times. This is their penultimate season, they did get renewed for season 6 but said on their own accord that it would be the finale. It both pains me and makes me so very proud that they get to end the story on their own terms. It’s what they worked for and I love them so much for everything they have given us.

Seriously, if you haven’t ever watched the show, you are missing out!

Osmosis

I love highlighting Netflix’ international content, because they are opening doors for so many people with these productions. Osmosis is a really interesting scifi story, even if it isn’t entirely revolutionary. It feels like it’s a French version of a very long Black Mirror episode and how technology always has its advantages and downfalls. For me personally, it could have focused on the romance a whole lot more. I quite liked some of the base concepts of the show, but ultimately it didn’t completely capture me the way I had hoped it would, meaning there was a problem with the execution in the end.

My overall opinion on it is that it was a nice distraction with potential for more, should Netflix be willing to throw more money at them, but it’s not something I would bet on.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Part 2)

I was very hesitant on whether I should continue with this show or not. I hope by now you all know that I am NOT a fan of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and please don’t try to convert me. The first season or part or whatever they want to call it was ridiculous in my eyes. I did not like 80% of the characters (Prudence, Ambrose and Nick being their only saving grace) and as soon as we got to cannibalism, I was out. However, the promise of a dark Sabrina intrigued me (obviously, I didn’t get her) and I continued watching.

In the end, I liked this season better than the first one. I imagine it has a lot to do with the fact that the humans were in it less. The way they are always so righteous just makes annoyed at them and I say that not agreeing with that depiction of the Church of Night and some moral stuff (again, what is with the cannibalism?) happening at all. Anyway, my point here is that I liked it a little better, but I am still not fully on board. At least they cooled down on the blurry edges, which is also a good thing.

They already got renewed for Part 3 and 4 anyway, so what does it matter if my viewing numbers play into the equation?

*remains thoroughly Team Nick if there have to be teams*

Turn Up Charlie

Idris Elba, who is a DJ in real life, playing a struggling DJ in a fun TV show is my jam. Also, I haven’t seen Piper Perabo and JJ Feild in what feels like forever, so I enjoyed this massively. It was super British, light, fun and way too short. I don’t know what all to say, except that this had so much more heart than I expected it and really played on the notions of what makes a family and friendships work. It gets a big thumbs up from me and I truly hope we get to see a little more in the near future!

Have you watched or are you currently watching any of these shows? Do you want to talk about them? I am available!

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (April 1-7)

It’s that time of the week again where I show you the latest trailers and promos! I think there’s been some interesting new stuff, so, enjoy!

Movies

Avengers: Endgame (Thanos Trailer)

I guess they made that for all the people complaining that Thanos wasn’t enough in the first trailer.

Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

This is gonna be a lot of fun!

Joker

Okay, you have my attention. Joaquin sure is bringing his A game to the role.

J.T. LeRoy

Another movie that’s based on real events, but this time it’s drama in the book community!

My Spy

This reminds me of something but I can’t remember what. Either way, it looks like a movie I would have watched when I was younger.

Descendants 3

Will they ever announce a date for it?

The Dead Don’t Die

Zombie movies just really aren’t my thing.

Trial by Fire

A lot of true events kind of movies these days.

All Creatures Here Below

I saw Karen Gillen and klicked.

TV Shows

Game of Thrones (Season 8)

In my opinion, you don’t need to watch this anymore. The show will return in a week and isn’t it cooler to get all the new footage then?

Dead to Me

This looks like a more comedic “A Simple Favor”-esque show. I am in.

How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)

I can’t tell from the teaser (obviously), but I think this is actually a German show.

The Society

When I was little, I used to watch a show where all adults had died from a virus and only kids and teens survived but it was nowhere near as Lord of Flies as this.

Gentleman Jack

I am intrigued, especially since it’s based on actual events?

Fosse/Verdon

Sam Rockwell AND Michelle Williams!? What a duo.

Yellowstone (Season 2)

I didn’t even know this show existed, but it has a season 2 apparently and it looks like Dallas or Blood & Oil in a national park.

Too Old to Die Young

This looks so messed up.

No Good Nick

Looks interesting enough for a Netflix binge should I be bored. I only wonder why this was uploaded on the kids channel alone.

Which one of these will you be watching? Did anything catch your eye? Let’s talk!

March 2019 Wrap-Up

I originally intended to be more active this month, but a couple hick-ups along the way and some generally not so fun events have made me a little apathetic towards everything that wasn’t sleep. I’m better now though and hope to get more passionate about writing posts and reading and watching TV (yeah, not even that was very entertaining at times) again.

While The Wicker King and its novella didn’t get the highest rating of my reads this year so far, I still very much enjoyed reading the books. I think my approach of reading less or really only the things I truly gravitate towards is doing wonders. Most of the books I have picked up this year were amazing and I had a lot of fun (or other emotions) with them.

If you want to read my review for The Wicker King as well as some short thoughts on The Legend of the Golden Raven (which is the companion novella from Jack’s POV) click here.

I didn’t feel like cancelling the book section of this post entirely, but I might in future posts if I really only read about one book per month. For now, fingers crossed I’ll pick up something that’s a super quick read though. If I can finish it in a day or on a weekend, I might just be up for it.

There’s not really much to tell other than that. Part of my family has come to visit Berlin this past weekend and it was really fun to play tourist with them for a bit. Aside from being super tired from walking around (and I did less walking than they did), I don’t think I would have seen as much or tried some things if they hadn’t been here with me. I am really grateful for that experience! One thing I would definitely recommend is the German Spy Museum! Even when it’s pretty full, you get to do loads of interactive stuff such as learn morse code, look for bugs in a room, do a laser maze or try how you’d fare at a job interview for a secret intelligence service (in this case the Australian one, which I now know how to nail. You can try it yourself here). Even if some of the things may have been targeted at kids, who didn’t ever want to be a spy when they were younger and just likes pretending now too?

THINGS I LIKED THIS MONTH

Apart from discovering some more of Berlin, I really just stuck with my Skam remakes again this month. It’s so interesting to see the German approach to the Isak/Even season, especially since they REALLY changed things up. I am so happy to see them include a trans character played by a trans actor and just generally do a lot of callbacks to the original show as well as small references to the other remakes, but always do their own thing as well.

The French version has just ended their Isak/Even season and jumped right into the next one without so much as a break. My inner fangirl rejoices at stuff like that. Although I am going to miss Lucas and Eliott like crazy, they had an amazing run. I was just constantly blown away by the acting, especially that of Axel Auriant. He has quickly become one of the young talents I am definitely going to look forward to seeing in more projects in the future. What he does just feels so real! (I mean, he did actually hurt his hand while punching a wall, so … part of it is real, I suppose).

I hope you had a good month and that we can all start into April without too many pranks (I just really don’t like April Fool’s Day, cause I fall for everything).
