Trailers You Might Have Missed … (July 8-14)

I kind of just forgot to post anything this week? I can’t really explain the why of it all, let’s just say that I was preoccupied with other things and that I am simultaneously on this massive self improvement trip that takes up a lot of time.

This actually looks badass, but I really like the animated movie. I don’t know … I’ll be missing some elements for sure, but at least there’s no white dude running around like in one of the earlier drafts for this movie.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Uuuuh, there’s more of her!

I feel like this is right up my alley.

Ode to Joy

It’s weird, but also kind of interesting.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold

I liked the first trailer better, but I cracked up hard when she was talking to the “audience”.

J.T. Leroy

I can’t believe I didn’t hear anything about this when it actually happened.

I am so over biopics of real people.

The Operative

Freeman is good in business right now, I suppose.

Secret Obsession

This trailer shows way too much, even if almost everyone could have predicted the “twist”.

TV Shows

The Society (Season 2)

I just need you all to be happy for me, because I predicted that we’d get another season and WE DID!

Another Life

I am definitely here for any kind of alien/outer space show.

BH90210 (mini series revival)

It just sort of looks like a reality show? Look at the set design!?

Mayans MC (Season 2)

I’m gonna be real with you. I forgot to even check out the first season of this.

Queer Eye (Season 4)

Queer Eye is just bliss.

What will you be watching? Let’s talk about it!

  1. Thoughts:
Mulan: I’m okay with most of the rumored changes, like the lack of songs (the original only had 4 anyway) and Mushu being absent, but I am still pissed about Shanyu being cut out of this in favor of a witch and her henchman. I mean, what? Shanyu was terrifying! He scared me as a kid, and he was only on screen for maybe ten minutes!
I’ll still go see it though. Most likely, anyway.
    2. Maleficent 2: Is supposed to be some sort of course correction for how the first movie didn’t make her a proper villainess and tried to sanitize her? Because I still won’t see it.
    3. Dora and the Lost City of Gold: This is going to flop so bad.

Also, the trailer for American Horror Story: 1984 looks great!

    • Yeah, Shan Yu was creepy for sure. I don’t want to pass judgement on the movie just yet, but I am also not super pumped about it. I am also not going to watch the new Lion King. Too many people have described it as being void of a soul and I saw a clip and hated the CGI landscape.
I have no idea what Maleficent is supposed to be. She looks way overbearing in this trailer, but I bet she will be portrayed as the victim eventually.
In a weird way I dig Dora, but I wish it was on a streaming platform instead of the theater.

      • Yeah, Dora would probably do better on a streaming platform. And I’m avoiding the Lion King remake too. There’s just something so wrong with Disney trying to remake one of their best films, one with almost no plot holes, using a different form of animation, and then trying to pass it off as live action.

    • I am not huge on the live action remakes either. I enjoyed Aladdin! But other than that, I have skipped quite a few and been bored with the others. I wish they wouldn’t redo EVERYTHING in their Disney repertoire.
Otherhood looks so fun! Can’t wait for that one.

      • Ah I completely understand- I won’t watch any of the other remakes (and haven’t since Cinderella)- though I’ve watched all the trailers and extended clips- and have no regrets about that. I think for Mulan the difference is that there are so few retellings of that story in the west and the original had some glaring historical inaccuracies- so I think there is room for it… but we shall have to wait and see if it’s actually good!

      • I quite enjoyed Aladdin (not saying it’s better or anything like that, however, it was entertaining) but I haven’t made the best of experiences with the other remakes I checked out. I think I might watch the new little mermaid, but other than that … I am just not feeling it.
