We all know that I haven’t exactly been reading up a storm these past couple of months. Even when I have been interested in the different stories, it was just hard to find the time and energy to really focus on it and keep at it. However, this book was offered for free on Kindle and is told entirely through letters (one of my favourite forms of storytelling if you remember this post), so I just couldn’t resist.
Evidence of the Affair feels like such a simple story, but managed to really get across a lot of emotion in its limited amount of pages. It’s always such a shame when I connect with a short story and then just want it to go on for 300 more pages. And that’s not to say that this book had a terrible ending at all, it was quite fitting and yet, it still left a lot to the imagination. I think that I would have personally preferred just a bit more, but I’d like to imagine that the next thing happened away from letters and notes and that makes it all the more beautiful in my mind.
Carrie and David’s struggles were so relatable throughout, I just wanted them to lead their best lives and be happy too. Even as someone who hasn’t been in a long term relationship, I could understand their doubts and fears.
Often, I feel overwhelmed by this sinking feeling in my heart that I will never be enough.
But those characters were definitely enough and their short story was too. I am a greedy reader, I always want more, but this is a great book if you need a change of pace or a quick way out of a reading slump.
Fazit: 5/5 stars! This is the perfect little palette cleanser and story to wet your appetite for more reading.

I loved this, too. I was worried since I don’t read many short stories, but had to after reading Evelyn Hugo. Great review!

Evelyn Hugo is still super high up on my TBR. I don’t know a single person who hasn’t liked it, but since I don’t own a copy but have a couple others at hand, I have given those books priority.

How did I not know that this was free on Kindle?? I missed the memo! I’ve heard some great things about Taylor Jenkins Reid and have considered giving her a shot. Short stories are usually a go-to for breaking out of reading slumps, but I can so understand that greedy side of wanting more haha. Awesome review!!

She seems to be an amazing author, because I don’t know a single person who didn’t love the Evelyn Hugo book. Thanks for checking out the review! I usually don’t do one for short stories, since there is so little to tell, but I felt really compelled to do it for this one.

Great review for this book Kat, I haven’t read many of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books (they’re not what I’d say was my usual genre of choice) but I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones and the Six so I’m going to get around to her other releases soon. I’m glad you enjoyed this one, if the only downside is that you wanted it to go on for longer then that’s the sign of a brilliant story right? Sometimes short stories don’t have the same impact, there’s less space for the authors to develop them, but it seems like that was’t the case with Evidence of the Affair.

I hear great things about Reid as an author and I really want to check out her longer formats soon, but other books (the ones that I actually already own physically) have priority for now haha
I really felt like she managed to deliver an impact with this one, which was why I did a review. Usually I don’t really feel like there is enough to say about short stories.

Oh I know what you mean. I want to get around to more of her books but I have so many others on my TBR list I want to get around to first.
That’s another sign it was incredible, if this is one of the rare short books you’ve written a review for. 🙂 I’m sure you’ll love her longer novels when you get around to them.

Ahh I’m so happy you loved that one, this will go on my TBR.. I want to read everything this author writes after falling in love with Evelyn Hugo. I’m going to read Daisy Jones by the author next (next week, most likely) and my sister screamed about it SO much she is obsessed by it haha so I can’t wait. I’m really curious about this one, I feel like short books like that can be a little frustrating, because when I really fall in love with it, I always want more, too, haha. Still I’ll try it out for sure 😀
