The month of January really felt like a whole freaking year, but that also means that a lot has happened and I got a decent amount of reading done. After the reading slump that was 2019, I am really happy to have found my groove again, because I have missed books. Here’s what I have read recently (and the books being almost color-coordinated is pure coincidence):
- A Discover of Witches by Deborah Harkness (3.5 stars)
- This Modern Love by Will Darbyshire (3 stars)
A sweet compilation of love letters and break-up stories curated by YouTuber Will Darbyshire. It’s beautiful in its simiplicity. - The Field Guide to the North American Teenager by Ben Philippe (4 stars)
- Fleabag: Scriptures by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (5 stars)
These are the filming scripts from the TV show Fleabag (both seasons) and some notes from Phoebe Waller-Bridge. That woman is one of my idols, so all I can say is – it was perfect! (Truly like watching it all over again.)
As per usual, click on the covers to get re-directed to Goodreads, where you are always welcome to add me as a reading buddy! For the books that I have written reviews for, you can find them by clicking on the titles above.
For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you may have already heard the big news. I have submitted all necessary paperwork for a working holiday visa for Canada. In other words, if my application goes through *fingers crossed* I will be able to go to Canada for an entire year WITH an open work permit, allowing me take any job without a company having to sponsor my stay. It has long been my wish to return to Vancouver, so this would be a dream come true and a possible first step towards a more permanent stay on the long run. Wish me luck!
FAVOURITE THINGS OF THE MONTH
No lie, I am so immensely proud of my Geralt of Rivia drawing! The Witcher was binged by me back in December, but I couldn’t get Henry Cavill out of my head, so I drew this at a later time. I think it’s my best drawing yet. And I really, really wanted to do the rest of the cast, but I am not sure I am even able to do that.
This was my attempt at Yennefer, but it just … doesn’t look like her? I am proud of the drawing, because it looks life-like and cool and it has the kind of eyes that follow you around he room, but it just isn’t … Yennefer. I could not replicate the Geralt magic …
Something else I absolutely loved this past month was Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. My love for this movie knows no bounds and I will talk about that in a little more detail in an upcoming binge-watching post, but just let me tell you, that it’s fantastic. I laughed, giggled, cried, gasped and generally felt pure joy watching some of my favourite actors and actresses get directed by one of my favourite directors. This drawing of Jo is my latest artistic endeavor and the level I am currently at. It’s not as great as the Geralt of Rivia one, but I will keep trying.

Thank you, yes, I drew those portraits! I try to share some of my art work with every monthly wrap-up, but most of the time I forget haha
And I live abroad all the time, but I fell in love with Canada and especially Vancouver a couple years back. My heart has been yearning to go back there for a while now, so thank you for the luck as well. I’ll take anything I can get haha

That’s fine. I’ve run out of room on my walls anyway. By the by, did I mention I’m listening to the first book in the Witcher series, The Last Wish, on audio book?

No, you hadn’t mentioned that. I have the physical book at home, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. The title makes a lot of sense if you look at the TV show though.

I am really happy I got back into reading as well. It’s a lovely book, so I hope you’ll enjoy it too if you get a chance to read it.
Fleabag is a brand of its own, but it is really well done. I never really expected it to have such deep nuances.
And thank you again! I love drawing, but Geralt is the best result so far haha
Have a great February as well! ❤

Thank you, Meggy! Fleabag is in a league of its own. But have you watched Crashing with Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Unfortunately it only has one season, but it was great fun too! (Not to be confused with an hbo show or something of the same title)

It must feel great getting out of the reading slump. Good job on reading so much! 😀 Wicked Saints is a book that I’m not sure if I want to read or not. I have heard so many mixed things about it. Glad to see that you enjoyed it though! 🙂
Good luck with the working holiday visa! I hope everything will work out for you! ❤ Your drawings are gorgeous as always.

I get the hesitation towards Wicked Saints. i know a lot of people who either hated the book or were really disappointed. I am not saying you should base it all on one thing, but how did you feel about Reylo? Just like in general?
Thank you for your lovely words, Anna! ❤ I hope you have a great February

I haven’t watched any of the Star Wars movies, so I have no idea! 😂 I’m thinking about picking up Wicked Saints from the library (once I join), so I can give it a try as it does sound like a book that I would enjoy. 🙂

Okay hahaha then I don’t know how to suss it out. Just be prepared for characters that have done bad stuff and you are supposed to ship them? But the library option is definitely the best option if you aren’t sure about the book! I hope you’ll get to read it and actually enjoy it 😀

Congratulations on taking a step closer to doing the things you love, Kat! So glad to hear that you are heading back to Vancouver to kick more ass (and probably meet more famous actors, huh????) 😀 Also love your Geralt drawing! You have quite the talent there! 😉

Thank you! Here’s to hoping I might get to actually work with all those famous actors instead of randomly running into them and not knowing what to say haha
And thanks! I really am proud of that Geralt drawing.

That Geralt of Riveria drawing is stunning, Kat ❤ I’m so happy you got your reading groove back, I am still struggling with that one a little bit. I still haven’t watched or read A Discovery of Witches but it is definitely on my list. Holding thumbs you get your visa to return to Canada x

Thank you, Michelle! I would definitely keep recommend the Discovery of Witches show rather than the book, but I hope you find your reading groove nonetheless ❤
