Trailers You Might Have Missed … (May 4-10)

Another week has come and gone, time stops for no one. Today it’s Mother’s Day where I live and even if it might not be everywhere around the world, I wish all mothers and guardians a very happy Sunday. Now, on to the trailers! (which are much better than last week!)

The King of Staten Island

I know that a lot of people don’t know what to do or don’t like Pete Davidson, but I think this movie actually looks really good. The fact that’s it’s mostly based on his life and he gets to play another version of himself probably helped the process? (Also, yay for Steve Buscemi playing a fireman when that’s one of his former jobs and he even volunteered on 9/11)

The High Note

I still think this looks lovely.

Sweetness in the Belly

I heard some disappointment at the lack of Ethiopian casting in this and I get it, but the story looks really interesting.

Think Like a Dog

Not a movie I think I’d enjoy, but I thought it was hilarious that there were two movie trailers with Kunal Nayyar this week (Raj from the Big Bang Theory).

I don’t know anything about Shirley Jackson, but I have full trust in Elisabeth Moss’ acting abilities!

Top notch casting right there!

Kevin James and Joel McHale in such serious and terrifying roles freaks me out.

Yes God Yes

Not sure I am into Natalie Dyer’s movie project selection.

Documentary of the week. (Even if it started streaming on May 6 already)

TV Shows

Space Force

This is going to be priceless!

I hear people really want a season 2 of this. The fact that Aden Young from Rectify is starring in this, is a very convincing point for me.

Lovecraft Country

I don’t think I could handle it, although I think it could be brilliant.

The Big Flower Fight

100% something my mum would like.

The 100 (Final Season)

If Bellarke doesn’t happen, I feel like there’s people who will riot.

Did you see a trailer or promo that piqued your interest? Let’s chat!

  1. I’ve only ever read one short story by Shirley Jackson, The Lottery and it’s was amazing. I don’t know anything about her life, but I’m definitely watching the movie. The King of Staten Island looks really good too.

  2. Thoughts:
    1. Shirley: I know only a bit more about Shirley Jackson than you do, namely that she wrote The Lottery, which I found mystifying, and The Haunting of Hill House, which is considered influential in my genre but which I didn’t care for.
    2. Becky: Wow, this looks really intense.
    3. Lovecraft Country: I want to see it! The book it’s based on is great! Sadly, I don’t have HBO.

  3. I really want to see The High Note. It’s been so long since i’ve watched a trailer and its stuck with me and i’ve been dying to see a movie. Maybe because i’m a huge Dakota Johnson fan!

    • Awe, yeah, The High Note looks like one of those movies that’s really enjoyable. I am sad they didn’t get a cinematic release, but at least they didn’t make everyone wait longer.

  4. I watched Becoming last night. It gave me hope, just like the book. I keep reading American people complain that the virus is nothing etc, so it’s nice to be reminded some Americans do have a brain. I think the documentary is good, but you get the full impact if you’ve listened / read the book first xx

  5. Becoming! I watched the documentary just yesterday with Nyx and found it really good. I haven’t read the book, but I know I’d want to someday, I’m just…. well, not used to reading non fiction, and kind of waiting for my sister to buy it to steal it from her afterwards hahaha πŸ™‚ Still, I found the documentary really lovely and I really like Michelle a whole lot, too. πŸ™‚

    • Michelle is great! I understand why she is a role model for many πŸ˜€ You should give non-fiction a go sometimes. Maybe start with something that doesn’t feel as non-fic like Eat Pray Love or so haha

  6. Now that I’ve finally seen the trailer, I get the hype. The King of Staten Island looks like such a good film.

The Big Flower Fight is the kind of show my mam would watch and she’d be the fiercest judge of them all.

I feel like Becoming is the little sprinkle of goodness in a world that has effectively gone to shit since.

    • Right? I feel like The King of Staten Island could be really good and since it even has Kumail Nanjiani’s seal of approval, I am all in!

I think the Big Flower Fight will be super fun haha I wish they didn’t have to do everything SO big, but plants are cool.

Sometimes I don’t think we deserve Michelle Obama haha

    • He’s actually been in a couple films πŸ™‚ Pete had a small role in Netflix’ Set It Up and a bigger role in Big Time Adolescence. But this one is really close to his personal life πŸ™‚
Michelle Obama really is so inspiring! I am glad you enjoyed the documentary!!
