SEVEN YEARS! It never ceases to amaze me for just how long I’ve been doing this. When I started Life and Other Disasters, I was still in uni and even had a previous blog from High School on my track record that barely lasted a couple weeks. In my mind, there was no way I would keep going for so long. I won’t lie to you, the seven-year-itch has caught me too, and there were times I wondered if I should maintain it at all or maybe let it slide into oblivion with shinier platforms like Twitter, Instagram and YouTube (don’t even get me started on TikTok, I’m too old for that one) out there to take over.
But this isn’t about how things have moved on a bit or how I feel like a lot of people forget about the work bloggers put into their posts. There were definite ups and downs, sometimes entire months without any posts other than trailers. I am guilty of not always bringing my A-game myself. However, I found, no matter what life threw at me, I never regretted having this blog to come back to. But most of all, I cherish the people I have met on here that have become some of my dearest friends. I would never ever want to miss you!! (I hope you know who you are)
So, basically, I’m saying I am still here! And even though I have no clue what the future holds and for how long I will stay here, I think seven years is a mighty fine reason to celebrate. I haven’t done this in a while, but I really wanted to give back to everyone who takes the time to visit Life and Other Disasters, like and comment on a regular basis. It really means so much to me, whether you’ve been sticking around for years or have just recently discovered the blog! Long story short: I’m doing a giveaway!! You lot have been the greatest at doing Q&As and other alternatives I have tried these past years, I thought it was about time I did one of these once more. And nothing seemed more fitting than to take a look at some of my favourite reads from the past years and let the winner choose one of the books I am suggesting.
GIVEAWAY RULES
- I am giving away ONE (maybe two if enough people take part) of my favourite books (see list below of books to choose from).
- The giveaway is international as long as Book Depository ships to you or you can link me up to an Indie Bookstore of your choice that will let me order from where I live.
- You have to be 18+ or have the permission of your parents to give me details such as your full name and address. None of the information will be shared!
- The giveaway starts today (June 8, 2020) and ends on June 14, 2020. The winner will be chosen at random, contacted via the comment section and asked to send me an email with the necessary information.
- TO ENTER: you must follow the blog and comment about either a favourite memory we share OR your favourite blog post of mine. (You don’t yet have to pick a book, but feel free to tell me which ones interest you most!)
- These are the bookish options I’m giving you:
Words in Deep Blue | Anna K | Jackaby | We Are Okay
Field Guide to the North American Teenager | All American Boys | To Kill a Kingdom | Echo North
A Very Large Expanse of Sea | Saints and Misfits | Dear Martin | The Light Between Worlds
How I Live Now | Wolf by Wolf | This Savage Song | Red Rising
The Serpent King | Normal People | The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society | Born a Crime
I tried to make it a good mix of different books. There’s everything from YA to adult, contemporary to Fantasy and even non-fiction book. You can find more info on all of these by either clicking on the titles to read my review or the cover to get redirected to Goodreads!
I wish the best of luck to everyone who decides to participate and am looking forward to reminisce a little about the past years!
Happy seven years!!! That’s amazing!! ❤

Happy blogiversary! 7 years is an impressive milestone especially in this ever-changing digital world that tries its hardest to phase blogs out. I hope you know how much I love your posts, especially the book vs adaptation reviews. Where do I even begin with favourite memory? I mean, we have a Texas road trip plan, our mutual longing for Canada, and you are my biggest cheerleader in everything. It’s hard to imagine a time you weren’t in my life. Here’s to an epic 7 years and many more to come.

Thanks so much, Lois! ❤ I really couldn't imagine what my life would be like without you at this point. "Before"? What's that? I only know our glorious now and future packed with travels ❤

I’m happy you’re still here! I only recently discovered your blog a few months ago but I love it. I really enjoy your meme and list posts, but this one is probably my favorite so far: https://lifeandotherdisasters.com/2020/05/20/lowest-rated-books-according-to-gr-ive-read/ I like it because I’m always very curious (and admittedly cautious) when it comes to lower-rated goodreads books. Should I read them? Is it worth it? Ugh, always so hard to tell.

Hi, Heather! I’m so happy you found your way to this blog. I TOTALLY understand the curiosity with low ratings and the struggle to later on decide if it’s worth your time to read or not. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!!

Congratulations on this historic milestone, Kat.
I think I jumped on the blog early, and have been here for pretty much the whole ride.
I came for the book reviews, but I think I stayed for the movie/t.v. trailers.
Happy Trails!

Happy 7 years!! When I was blogging, reading your posts kept me motivated. I thought, if Kat can keep up with writing posts every week, I can! Eventually, I just fell out of love for blogging. I might come back one day, I might not, and I haven’t been commenting lately but I have been reading your posts!

Awe, Savannah! I miss talking to you on a bit more regular basis and checking out your blog posts, but I’m so happy to hear you are still reading mine. I hear you on falling out of love with blogging though, there are phases where I really question it too! Still, so happy to hear from you ❤

First off, congratulations on the anniversary. Big milestone.
Second, I enjoy all our discussions. Yeah, we don’t agree on a lot of things, but I have fun, and that’s what counts.
And now I’ll keep my fingers crossed on the giveaway!

Not at the moment. But you know my interests, so I’ll trust you with the decision.
Just don’t send me a copy of Red Rising. I’m happy with the versions I have on audio.
Also, I may have to adapt your idea for my tenth anniversary next year.

Friend!!! I can’t believe it’s been 7 years for you! That’s so amazing, I’m so proud of you! My favorite memory of ours was our buddy read of Anything You Want with Cristina. That was the first time I felt like we were becoming close friends and it brings a super smile to my face! 🙂

Congrats on the anniversary! My blogging enthusiasm waxes and wanes, but of all the blogs I started following 6-7 years ago, you’re one of the last ones left still plugging away – and I’m still reading! Keep it up!

I’m just so proud and happy and grateful that you’ve been blogging for 7 YEARS and that the blogosphere made our paths cross, too, i honestly wouldn’t know what to do without you in my life ❤ ❤ I seriously have to think HARD to pinpoint a favorite memory together, because, I mean… it's been SO long, I can't remember not talking to you at all?? How was my life before? 😂 I remember us buddy reading the A Million Worlds Without You series, the book with stunning covers AGES ago, no idea why that comes to mind right now, but well 😂 I mean, every single memory and conversation, from heartfelt ones to pure joy and rants, rants and rants, I just cherish everything and I adore you and I'm just so grateful to have you in my life. ❤
That was my way-too-long comment to congratulate you again, you are a DINOSAUR YAY!! 😂 here's to many more years of blogging and memories together ❤

MARIEEEE!!! STOP MAKING ME TEAR UP!!! ❤ I am so glad to be able to call you my friend. I love nothing more than to talk to you and share memories, however random and at times rant-y they are. I love that you thought about the Firebird series hahaha that was such a weird series in hindsight and I just remember that I always pictured Josh from Younger as the main guy (Paul?), but that I wanted Theo for myself. Like, so bad.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

Omg 7 years of blogging is amazing!! Happy Blogversary 🎉🥰 I’m happy to hear that you still love blogging so much, even though understandably there are still highs and lows. Thank you so much for hosting this lovely giveaway ❤ My favorite posts of your have to be the Writing Tags (they are always so much fun to do!) and the What I’ve Been Watching ones, as they always give me great recommendations 💕 (I love so many of the books you featured for the giveaway, but I’d love to give Echo North a try because you made it sound so good 📚)

Caro, I feel so incredibly old! haha my blog-child would already go to school and everything …
It always fills my heart to see you engage with my write tags. I wish I would know a way to better spread those or make them more accessible for people to partake, but I am honestly and earnestly happy about everyone who finds joy or use in them! ❤
I'll never run out of TV shows to recommend, I think that's just my thing haha
Echo North was such a lovely read and one that I really needed after a long period of no fantasy at all. You are officially entered in the giveaway and I wish you the best of luck! 🙂

Hello Kat! Wow congratulations on 7 years!! That’s an amazing achievement and you should be proud of yourself. It takes a lot of determination and persistence to keep blogging up for so long 🙂 It’s really hard for me to pick a favourite post, but as you know I really like all your writing tags. I also love seeing your artwork which are beautiful!

Hi Sophie, and thank you so much for you kind words! I often still can’t believe it’s been this long, but I AM proud ❤ I've seen so many people last less than a year sometimes (although no judgment!! Life can really change plans sometimes)
I am always so happy to see you partake in the write tags!! Thank you for being a supporter of them.

Yes I absolutely think you should be proud!! I think you are the oldest blogger (as in the blogger who has been around the longest – you know what I mean haha!) that I know 😊
It is sad to see people leave blogging (especially some of the bloggers that I had followed closely) but I can understand that life circumstances change.
I am always up for write tags 😊
Yay!! I have my fingers crossed for the giveaway!!

Aside from some of these being my faves too!) And it’s making me want to pick up all the ones I haven’t yet!
