I’m not quite myself these days, so I don’t have all that much to tell you. A lot of shows are on a little break or the new ones I’m looking forward to haven’t gripped my attention after all, but I’m still going to do a small summary.
FINISHED TV SHOWS/SEASONS
Bel-Air (Season 1)
You saw me raving about this show on a weekly basis, but now that the first season is over, I thought I’d talk about a little more since I didn’t binge anything new (same with the show below).
Honestly, I was very torn about the idea of one of my favorite sitcom classics of my childhood being remade into a drama, but they had to do something drastic to allow this property to stand on its own feet. Maybe it wasn’t necessary to make every single character so dang fit without any kind of awkwardness or something more mellow, but in the end, I was convinced by the cast. I could see the traces of the characters I used to love and a new take on them. I could see the emotions, the familial bond and the relationships that will hopefully accompany us for many more seasons.
I laughed, I was touched and on the brink of tears, it’s such a well-made show.
Promised Land (Season 1)
No one I know ever talks about this show, which is kind of a shame in my eyes. I’m not even really sure it will get renewed, because if no one talks about it … that’s rarely ever a good sign, but I still felt the urge to mention it here and explain a little about what it is.
Joe and Lettie came to the US illegally, but managed to overtake and maintain an empire with Heritage House, a vineyard. Years later, being a patchwork family with many kids, who have ambitions and dreams of their own, their past comes to haunt them. We switch between the past and the present, see how certain situations shaped their world and their legacy and how generational trauma gets passed on.
It’s a little lengthy in its storytelling, despite actually focusing on so many different characters, but I was really pleased with the conclusion to season 1. It almost works as a limited series, but you can follow this family for long time too, if you want to.
WEEKLY TV SHOWS
Abbott Elementary (Season 1)
It keeps being great. Quinta Brunson really created something special with this one.
Sanditon (Season 2)
Due to PBS offering early access for the episode ahead, I’ve actually already seen episode 4. I cannot get enough of the show and am looking forward how the various love triangles will resolve. I know who’s teams I’m on.
Good Trouble (Season 4)
*sigh* where do I start? First of all, I adore my Davia and love her storyline. I really liked it that she ran into Luca (Booboo Stewart is just so fantastic) and hope that their paths cross some more. Where the show kind of loses me is with the will they/won’t they of Dennis and Isabella. I support them as friends, but if they go for something more and especially keep driving this jealousy plot for Gael, I’m not sure I want any of it. The promo for next week already suggests that Davia feels like she doesn’t know Dennis anymore, because Isabella throws him a birthday party. I mean … come one.
As for Mariana and Malika, both are just bound to blow up their professional life due to personal relationships again. (Clearly, I have a lot of thoughts on Good Trouble …)

Moonshot
Was this the best romcom ever? No. Was it still nice? Yeah, kind of.
Previously to watching the movie, I had seen several interviews with Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse and they exude a lot of fun. They have really great friendship chemistry, but that didn’t translate to the romantic moments for me, which is a pity. But, lesson learned, do not follow someone to another planet or celestial body if they wouldn’t do the same for you.
Death on the Nile
After the whole Armie Hammer cannibal debacle, I really was hesitant to watch the movie. I didn’t go see it in theaters, because it was available on one of my streaming platforms though and I really enjoyed the Murder of the Orient Express movie, so I figured, I should give it a shot.
Did I predict the entire “who dunnit?”? – I sure did, but I don’t think that was that hard to guess. The cast was alright, a lot of well-known names again, but I was especially happy at the glimpse of Poirot’s past and personal life. I’d like them to continue this franchise.
