Today we’re wrapping up what I’ve been watching this past week, tomorrow we shall wrap-up the entirety of last month. I have some blogging plans for December, so … fingers crossed it’s going to go down better.
FINISHED TV SHOWS/SEASONS
1899 (Season 1)
How do I describe or talk about a show that is best experienced knowing as little as possible about it? 1899 is the latest project by the creative minds behind one of my favorite German TV shows – Dark. Just like with their previous brain child, you are in for a wild ride again. However, this one is far more international, including cast members from several different countries, all speaking their own languages. It’s fascinating to watch people interact and understand each other without comprehending a single word they’re uttering. The connections forged are all the more curious because of it and mirroring our own very global world.
There were definitely some excellent twists in there, although I pride myself on guessing at least a couple of them. I’m in love with so many of the cast members and I sincerely hope we get more seasons. There’s so much yet to discover and I can only hope that they get to tell this story in full, as they did with Dark.
Casual reminder: If you haven’t watched Dark yet, do it! And please, for the love of good TV, watch it in German with subtitles if you don’t speak the language. Just like you should watch 1899 in its original mix of languages instead of a dubbed version, which literally wouldn’t make sense.
WEEKLY TV SHOWS
Gossip Girl (Season 2)
I know that the OG Gossip Girl is nothing but cringe if you watch it now, but the reboot still isn’t quite on the same level as GG used to be. I hope I’ll like the season, but I never seem to be interested in the main power struggle, I always just want to know about some “random” side ship.
White Lotus (Season 2)
They better not be related for real. If you’ve watched it, you know what I mean.
The Sex Lives of College Girls (Season 2)
BELA!? WTF??? If this show ruins Bela and Eric for me, I’m going to be so upset. Eric was a douche too, but this was a bad ending. Really starting to dig Kimberley and Jackson though. And I KNEW Whitney would fall for bio chem guy eventually. Whenever I talk about the show, it sounds like it’s all about ships, when in reality, the friendship between the girls is the best part of it. I mean Leighton taking care of Kimberley – the bestest!!
Mythic Quest (Season 3)
Unfortunately, not my favorite season so far.
9-1-1 (Season 6/Fall Finale)
Almost all my shows are on winter break now and I hate it here. Buck was so excited about the baby, he has to realize that he’s not actually going to be that kid’s father. I really don’t think he gets that yet.
MOVIES
As always, don’t forget to add me on Letterboxd if you want to be up to date on all my movie experiences!
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
I’m not going to play it down, I knew fully well that this movie would hit me hard emotionally and I think I cried through the entire opening sequence, Marvel logo and whatever came next as well as some more in between and at the end of the movie. If you can get me with an emotional hook, your movie will have my whole heart. I’m so appreciative of the cast and crew who made this movie and who made it this relatable yet fantastic.
Just like Killmonger, who has made some fair claims in the last movie, Namor has made some points as well. I’m really enjoying the nuance and the inclusion of more indigenous storytelling in big franchises. I was once more mesmerized by the soundtrack – such amazing choices were made – and loved the chemistry between the characters. I know that a lot of people didn’t love it as much as the first Black Panther movie, but seeing it as the tribute that it is, it was everything I hoped it would be and cinematically beautiful on top of that.
Cosign on that White Lotus comment! I don’t think they are, thankfully. I loved Wakanda Forever! I’ve been listening to the soundtrack nonstop lately, mostly Namor’s theme.

They gotta just pretend to be family for … reasons, right?
I have the Wakanda Forever soundtrack on loop as well. It’s SO GOOD!!!

Spoilers ahead: I really enjoyed Wakanda Forever. Found Namor to be a complex, quality villain and a worthy adversary indeed. The mid-credits scene was unexpected yet welcome. My nit-picking…the mid-movie battle in Wakanda itself felt like it should have been the battle at movie’s end. Higher stakes with the enemy across your borders. Looking forward to seeing it again soon. Dark – I still have it on my watch list…and I’ll be sure to watch the German version.

I hear you on the battle, because I wasn’t sold on the one at open sea either, but I loved the movie as a whole. They did so well with something that must have been so incredibly difficult for everyone involved.
Thanks for taking my tips for Dark into consideration!

My husband is still stressing me out watching season 1 of Yellowstone, so I’m kind of watching that. My daughter started watching Wednesday this morning (snow day from school) so I’m liking that one.

I think I’ve watched Yellowstone up to about season 3 or so. It’s a very good show, but so slow. I need to be in the exact right mood for it.
Hope you and your daughter continue to enjoy Wednesday!

Wakanda Forever is amazing. I’m glad they were able to pull off such a great movie the way they did. And I’ve been meaning to check out 1899. Just need more time for watching stuff!

Indeed! The production of Wakanda Forever could not have been easy, but they delivered such an amazing end result. 1899 is something really fascinating. Hope you can find the time, the minutes watched in the first two weeks after the release are very important to Netflix.

Maybe if my writing career continues to soar. If that happens, I would make writing my full time job and enjoy the rest of the time.
