My Nominees

blogger of the year
Blogger of the Year: Cristina @My Tiny Obsessions
We started blogging around the same time and now she is a person I talk to more than to some of the people in my non-virtual life. She is always up to date on the topics she covers and incredibly consistent in posting! In my opinion she really deserves this nomination!

blog of the year
Blog of the Year: Cait @Paper Fury
I’ve discovered her blog a couple of months ago and now I don’t think I can live without it. It’s funny and informative and Cait is always ready for a discussion. Also, she co-features the Beautiful People Link-Up, which is just amazing!

kindest blogger

Kindest Blogger: Marie @Drizzle and Hurricane Books
I swear that Marie is one of the sweetest and kindest people out there and I am so glad that the blogging gods have brought us together. Whenever we have a conversation, I can’t help but feel a little warmer inside. I guess it also helps that we have very similar views on things.

funniest blogger
Funniest Blogger: Joey @Thoughts and Afterthoughts
Joey always has a great take on seemingly regular post ideas and makes them his own in a mostly hilarious way! I especially love his one-phrase recaps of TV shows!

best photo

Best Photo Taker: Samantha @Dream by Day
I just love her pictures, what’s more to say?

best adviser
The Blogger Who Gives the Best Advice: Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much
She has some really great posts where she suggests YA reads and then she had a series of posts about bookish Christmas gifts and I could go on. She’s just generally a great person that I very much enjoy talking to and we share a similar taste in books and TV shows! Everyone who loves the Royals as much as I do is a friend of mine!

newbie blogger
The Newbie: Emma @Emma the Book Lover
I am not sure how new her blog really is, but it is fairly new to me, so I think she fits the category great! I’ve really enjoyed her posts so far and am looking forward to more in the future.

prettiest blogger
Prettiest Blog: Regina @The Bibliothèque
I just love the style of her blog! It’s so clean and beautiful and just generally great! I love the headers she has created for herself!

Thank you for bearing with me! Share the love and go visit the blogs of my nominees, also don’t hesitate to nominate some people yourself!!

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (Dec 21-27)

Apparently this really is a weekly feature now – YAY! I am sorry I didn’t write a post about the Christmas Special/Series Finale of Downton Abbey, but I didn’t know what to say. Everything was perfect, everyone is happy and so am I! But now onto some movie and TV trailers!

I Saw the Light

I Saw the Light is a Hank Williams bio-pic, a person I know virtually nothing about, but I do love the cast! We had a Hiddleston trailer last week, why not again? He met his current girlfriend Elizabeth Olsen while shooting and I just think they are amazing together!

Everybody Wants Some

THIS LOOKS SO HILARIOUS! And it has Tyler Hoechlin, Ryan Guzman and Blake Jenner in it. I like it already!

Deadpool New Red Band Trailer

Deadpool trailers aren’t anything new, but this one has a couple different scenes in it. It’s going to be so much fun!

TV Shows

Orphan Black Season 4

Admittedly, this is not a real trailer. It’s not even a real teaser, but I do love the show so much, I couldn’t help but wanting to include it!

Flash Remainder of Season 2

Not much to say, except for yay! I can’t wait for them to go to Earth 2!!!

Arrow Remainder of Season 4 (SPOILERS!)

I swear I am going to kill them if they kill Felicity! Are we clear?

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

What will you be watching? Did I miss something crucial? Any thoughts?

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015: The Husbands of River Song

Series 9 of Doctor Who has reignited my love for the show! The Husbands of River Song was just the perfect ending for this whovian year and now the wait for the next series begins. But let’s talk about what happened last night!

What was it about?

The Doctor finds himself being called to help with a surgery on a crashed space ship, not knowing that River Song is behind the scheme. She wants the Doctor to detach the head of her husband, King Hydroflax, because it currently has a very valuable diamond stuck in it. Consequently they get into a lot of trouble, all the while River doesn’t even realise that the Doctor is her actual Doctor. They manage to survive and the episode ends with them spending their last night together.

My thoughts?

I am in love with the episode! I did not care about King Hydroflax or the Cyberman-hybrid body. I didn’t even care about all the different guest stars and aliens that appeared, which were pretty cool sometimes. All I really paid attention to were Twelve and River! It was such a fun and quirky yet also bittersweet episode and I filled a whole document with the hilarious quotes of the two of them. I think it was a great choice to not make River realise that he is her Doctor, because it gave so much more room for exploration of their relationship.
The Doctor got to play the person who see the inside of a TARDIS for the first time and he really can prod River’s thoughts on her feelings about him, without her knowing who he is. I loved how you could see the worry in his face, Twelve questioning what if anything in their relationship was ever real. But then there was the highlight, River expressing her love for him and it was so beautiful. I think the episode and their first encounter didn’t exactly go down as many have thought it would, but Twelve and River had some great chemistry and I think it was a really memorable part of their relationship together.

By the end, it seems that River’s story has now come full circle. I think that in a way, the whole story with Clara taught him that he couldn’t drag it out forever. It may have been a little cheesy, but since they are now at last at the Singing Towers of Darillium, I am happy that a night there is 24 years long. For once, they get to be together just like that. The “And they lived happily ever after” at the end was a little unnecessary in my opinion, but then again, River explained that “happily ever after” doesn’t mean forever, it just means time.

At last, I am happy that even the Doctor mentioned how ridiculous a Sonic Trowel is, but at least now we know how River got her Sonic Screwdriver!

Now the waiting begins! Who will be the new companion? When will the show return? Will Series 10 be Capaldi‘s last season? Nothing but questions but hopefully the next year will bring all the answers!

Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite New-to-me Authors of 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. I am sure there won’t be any surprises on this list, since I keep talking about the same books by the same authors over and over, but to clarify the theme is:

Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015

Let’s get started! As always, this is not a ranking, but simply me listing authors/books/whatever!

1. Andy Weir

18007564Okay … do I still have to explain this one? I have been going on about the Martian for months now. The book probably wasn’t even that great, but I kept hyping it in my head more and more anyway. Either way, I love Mark Watney and the effortless, funny writing of Weir.

2. Sarah J. Maas

16096824Sarah J. MaasI know that everyone keeps talking about how amazing Throne of Glass is and I swear that I’ll read it soon, but I was already convinced through A Court of Thorns and Roses, so I don’t have any doubt that I’ll like Maas‘ further writing.

3. Lev Grossman

6101718My relationship with the Magicians may be a rocky one, but I can’t deny that those books sort of stuck with me, so Grossman definitely must have done something right!

4. V.E. Schwab

A Darker Shade of Magic (A Darker Shade of Magic, #1)Victoria SchwabI’ve read A Darker Shade of Magic this year and I was really enthralled by it but also confused, mainly because I didn’t know it was a trilogy. I have no idea why I haven’t read anything by Schwab earlier.

5. Ernest Cline

16278318Ernest ClineWhile neither Ready Player One nor Armada made it onto my favourite-book-list, I can appreciate an author who knows how to geek out. Ernest Cline most certainly knows how to do that!

6. Claudia Gray

17234658I NEED TO GET TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU!! Even though A Thousand Pieces of You wasn’t in any way what I expected it to be, Gray got me hooked on the Firebird series!

7. Ransom Riggs

9460487Ransom RiggsRansom Riggs is such a quirky and lovable person. I am so torn about the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children though … on the one hand, I really want to know how it ends, but on the other hand, I have such a confused image of the characters. It’s weird, but he still made it onto the list.

8. Huntley Fitzpatrick

12294652Huntley FitzpatrickI can’t tell you how much I love My Life Next Door! It’s such a lovely story with such great characters and I am so thankful that Fitzpatrick decided to stay in the universe. I have to get that book soon as well!

9. Jasmine Warga

Jasmine WargaMy Heart and Other Black Holes18336965 was an amazing debut novel and I expect great things from Warga in the future!

10. Rachel Hawkins

8475505Rachel HawkinsRebel Belle is hilarious and that’s obviously due to Hawkins‘ writing!

The list is surprisingly more even in terms of male/female representation than I thought, which makes me immensely glad. Who are the awesome people listed on your TTT? Leave a link below and I’ll gladly take a look at it!

November 2015 Wrap-Up & December TBR

Another month has come to a close and what a busy month it has been! I really didn’t have a very ambitious TBR for November at all, but somehow I didn’t even mange to finish that. Either way, here’s what I’ve read during November:

  • How to Be Brave by E. Katherine Kottaras
I have to say that this book was a bit of a disappointment and actually very predictable. Also, I wasn’t a fan of the depiction of body image issues, especially not with the cover as it can be confusing (depending on whether that girl is supposed to be the MC or not).
  • Landline by Rainbow Rowell
Rainbow Rowell can do no wrong. I think that is not really news to anyone out there, but it is once again my verdict!
  • This Song Is (Not) For You by Laura Nowlin
    I got to page 7 … I don’t really think that counts.

As always, click on the titles above to get to the reviews and on the covers to be redirected to Goodreads!

I feel like SO much has happened during the past month. I worked at the first ever Vienna Comic Con and it was simply a lot of fun! I got to meet great people and will hopefully stay in contact with many of them. Also, it triggered my urge to draw again, which I definitely consider a good thing as well. I haven’t done that in months!

Another thing I am quite proud of is that I participated in NaNoWriMo again! I find that it is also a thing that brings people closer together, whether it be at the local write-ins or in the virtual world. It surely bonds people together to turn mad at the same time! I didn’t write 50K, but I managed to do half of that and I am really happy with the result.
Also, in case I haven’t said it enough THANK YOU ❤ for all the positive feedback you’ve given me on Dreamer. It is one heck of a scary thing to share your writing, especially when it’s still very raw and not edited all that much, but you were all great. Because I will stop sharing chapters on the blog itself, the offer still stands that I’ll send you a pdf file of the story if you want to continue reading it. (Just contact me via some way listed on the Contact Page!)

Lastly, another THANK YOU is in order, because our little community her on Life and Other Disasters continues to grow. It feels just like yesterday that I had my first follower, yet this month I got to post that there are currently more than 300 people following the blog. You cannot imagine how humble and grateful I am for that! You are the best!

So, I am once again not attempting anything crazy here. I’ll be working at my favourite bookstore chain this month, wrapping the presents for other people. This will take right up until the 24th, which is Christmas here in Austria. I am therefore not sure how much time I really have to read. But I am once again striving for at least 3 or 4 books!

  • This Song Is (Not) For You by Laura Nowlin
I don’t think I need to explain this again … It was after all on my TBR last month.
  • The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
This is my 11th Sparks book to be put on my bookshelf. I am often still surprised that I never get tired of his stories, but they simply work for me! The movie will come out next week and I like to read the books with enough time ahead of the movie release to make sure it’s not too fresh in my mind when I see the film. (Watch the Trailer here!)
  • Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate
Cliques, prejudices … it just seems like a nice High School kind of story. I got approved for the eArc and that’s that.
  • Reborn City by Rami Ungar
I am a little anxious to read this book to be honest. I consider Rami to be one of my friends and I hate reviewing the work of friends, just HATE IT! But I know that he is great at what he does and I think that I might actually get a lot more reading done this month than I did in November, so I don’t want to keep him waiting forever.

NaNoWriMo 2015 – The End! (+ Dreamer Chapter 8)

It’s debatable whether I deserve this banner or not, but I don’t care. I revised my goal for NaNoWriMo and wanted to achieve 25K and I managed to do exactly that! I am really proud of that achievement, so I am treating myself to the banner above. Also, if you think about it, I posted almost every day on the blog this month (except for last week), so my total words written would have exceeded 50K. If you just look at the novel, I still wrote 55 word pages, 25,097 words and 18 chapters. I’d say that’s pretty decent!

However, my novel (Dreamer) is far from being finished. I feel like I am still in the first third of the story, which makes sense if you think about the word count. I loved writing it though and I will definitely continue to work on it. But for now, I am celebrating!

I think this will also be the last time that I post a chapter of Dreamer here on the blog. If you want to continue reading it and are willing to give feedback, just shoot me a mail or PM on Twitter (you can find my contact info here) and I’ll send you a pdf file with updates.

Last but not least, I also want to congratulate my fellow Wrimos! Whatever word count you have achieved, you are awesome! I hope you had as much fun writing as I did! If you are willing to share your experiences below, I’d be more than happy to talk about it!

NaNoWriMo 2015 – How Is Everyone Doing? + Dreamer Chapter 7

There are only 3 MORE DAYS until the end of NaNoWriMo! I announced yesterday that I revised my goal and cut it down to 25K, but now I want to know: How are you guys doing? Are you right on target? Did you change your goal to a lower/higher word count as well? And how are you feeling about your story and characters by now? Have grown on you or gotten on your nerves? I tend to love my characters deeply but get frustrated with them just as much when they once more don’t do what I want them to do. I’ve learnt that it’s better to go with the flow when the story takes unpredictable and unplanned turns, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get annoyed when it happens. I wish I had written more this year, but I am just glad that I wrote something new again. I wasn’t getting anywhere with Break Up Buddy anyway.

Because I can’t really tell you much else, I’ll just share another chapter of Dreamer. (Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are already available!)

NaNoWriMo 2015 – Progress + Chapter 5

So, with being busy and all, I haven’t written anything new in a couple of days. This year everything was just so much busier than I thought it would be that I don’t think I can finish NaNoWriMo with 50K and that is okay. The important thing is that I got back into writing, that I had fun and that I’ll continue to have fun writing, because I am definitely not stopping now!!! I want to finish the first draft of Dreamer this year and I think that’s a manageable goal. So, that’s that for NaNo, I’ll tell you my final word count when we get to it!

Now, you already had the chance to read Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of Dreamer. I loved reading your reactions and questions and that’s why I’ll continue to share chapters. I hope you’ll share your feedback with me in return!

NaNoWriMo 2015 – Dreamer Chapter 4

Because I missed yesterday’s TTT (by the way, really nice quotes everyone!), I am going to share another chapter from my NaNo-novel Dreamer again. I know that my logic doesn’t exactly make sense, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. (Read Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and/or Chapter 3 by clicking on them!)

I’m not really all too happy about this one, but editing comes later … We get to see a little of Clara’s life for a change, since we already know a bit about Wick and his friends now. I don’t think I need to tell you much more than that. I am still 10K or so behind on my word count and I doubt it will get much better with the Comic Con coming up this weekend. Well, I can still do it. Positive thoughts everyone!
