The Life Choices Write Tag

I said I would do a new Write Tag this month and for once I am really keeping my promise! If you have missed previous installments of this very irregular feature, you can check out the posts for the Winter Is Here, Valentine’s Day and Milestones Write Tag by clicking on their titles. You are also more than welcome to join in if you haven’t yet! I have once again tried to steer clear of seasonal tags, because I want people to be able and do them whenever they feel like and am therefore happy to present the Life Choices Write Tag! It’s all about those little moments in life that define us and in this case hopefully our characters. Let’s get to know them better!

Once again, I will be doing this tag myself by answering the questions with my WIP (Work in Progress) ArcadiaWhile I have made some important decisions (like it is definitely going to be a duology and not a stand-alone), there’s still loads of work to do. The heat has made it a little tough to think straight, so I haven’t really been working on it. I am hoping this tag will motivate me again.

  • Thank the person who tagged you but also link back to the original post(I want to see all your lovely answers, people!)
  • Provide a short description of your WIP/story!
Kasia and Dyson have known each other their entire lives, their paths intertwining at every crossroad. So forgetting he ever existed doesn’t make any sense to Kasia and neither does finding out about the magical beings that took him away from her. Now, with the help of some allies with motives of their own, she will do everything she can to get him back, not knowing if either one of them will ever be the same after all is said and done.
You can check out this post to find out more about Arcadia!
  • This is pretty focused on main characters but don’t hesitate to use several characters for the answers if you want to! (We want to get to know as many of your characters as possible)

Where does your main character (MC) live? Were they born there or did they move to that place?

Kasia and Dyson moved to Vancouver together after they both finished university. Their families live in Ontario, but it’s not really an issue for them. First it’s not an insurmountable distance if you want to see them for holidays and second, they felt it was more important to start someplace new get trapped in their old routines after graduation.

Does your MC have a dream career? What (if anything) stops them from pursuing it?

Dyson’s greatest dream was to become a sort of mix between Indiana Jones and Noah Flynn from the Librarian movies. His knack for studying, but also outdoor adventure ultimately did lead to him becoming an archaeologist. The actual excavation sites are not nearly as exciting as the movies made them look, but he soon found himself gravitating towards teaching and jobs at museums anyway. (So, in short, he pursued his dream career and ended up loving it!)

Did any of your characters ever go against their parents/family’s wishes? How did that change their relationship?

Well, Dyson did when he didn’t find a “reasonable” job in his family’s eyes. They came around eventually and never truly held it against him, especially since Kasia went the more sensible route and became an accountant. That way not both of them had precarious jobs, but it still elicits the occasional eye roll at family gatherings.

If faced with their greatest fear – would your MC try to overcome it or run the other way?

Kasia’s greatest fear (aside from loosing Dyson) are heights, which I can very much relate to. As long as someone (again, preferable Dyson) is there to hold her hand though, she’ll at least always try.

Did any character have to cut a person out of their life? Why?

If I may refer everyone to chapter 9 of Arcadia … I don’t even feel like I should talk about this again. I’ve made a lot of people sad with that one. (Click here to read Arcadia if you haven’t yet, but want to.)

What is your main character’s biggest regret?

I shared an aesthetic the last time, of a little road trip (that probably won’t make it into the book) and I think there is a certain kind of regret involved with not actually going through with it, especially since it’s so uncertain if they will be able to now.

Which character is most likely going to help a stranger, even if they got nothing out of it in return?

This is someone a lot of you don’t know at all or at least not very well yet, but Casper would be my answer. I wanted to say Findlay at first, but I want to give some recognition to Casper too. He has a hard shell but a soft inside. He would never get a “most friendly” award, but if someone actually needed help, I don’t doubt that he would show up.

If your character got good/bad news, who would be the person they first tell?

Kasia and Dyson would call each other and after that Robyn. Georgie would call Fin, although I am not 100% sure he would call her first in return. I am really looking forward to figuring out who Leo would call. Haven’t found an answer yet though.

BONUS: Make an aesthetic for your MCs life if there had been no obstacles (money, geographical, etc.) and they had everything they wanted. (It is up to you if you want to explain it or not!)

I am going to leave this open for interpretation for now, but give me your best guess in the comments!

I hope you liked the tag and if you did, please don’t hesitate to spread the word!!! People have so many stories in them and I hope this helps them get to know their characters.

May 2018 Wrap-Up

While saying “I am hopelessly behind on my Goodreads Challenge” may be an exaggeration, I am definitely not on track. I am more or less four books behind and am struggling to keep up a little bit. This month was especially more busy than the previous ones and often I was just too tired to concentrate on reading in addition to everything else that was going on. Still, I managed to not read a lot of books, but at least fairly long-ish books in comparison. Take a look!

Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3)  Sweetbitter  Restore Me (Shatter Me, #4)

As always, click on the title to get to the review on the blog and on the cover to get re-directed to Goodreads!

During the entire month of May, I was taking a workshop on the topic of stage and camera casting. While it did involve some theoretic content, it mostly consisted of a lot of acting practice and as you know, I am not an actress. Still, it was fun! Sometimes some roles nearly drove me mad because things didn’t go the way I wanted them to, but overall, I think I am really going to miss acting on a regular basis. I still cannot imagine doing that as a full time job, I am just not sure I am cut out for that, but it was a very fascinating insight of how a life like that might look like.

That course also inspired/encouraged me to start a YouTube channel for my blog. I haven’t set it up yet and am not even sure what exactly I would talk about in my first video (or the ones to come). Still, that didn’t keep me from doing a Twitter poll on whether you’d watch it and 80% of you were kind enough to say “YAS! DO IT!”, so I am seriously considering doing just that. As soon as it’s happening, you’ll be the first to know!

So, what else is new? I did not win the fan art contest I entered in last month, I managed to update Arcadia again and I continue to have fun with my art instagram account if the time allows it. Also, as some of you know, I have pretty vivid dreams but this month really took the crown! I had a continuous dream for more or less two weeks and no matter what I did the story kept evolving. My friends have suggested I should write it down and make it into a book. Maybe I will do that? Maybe I won’t? I think you’d all prefer me to stick to Arcadia for now.

Continuing on my quest to share the love for some of my favourite bloggers out there, here are a couple of posts I really enjoyed this month!

  • Marie made sure we all knew how to get inspiration for our blogs, especially when it seems like everything has been done before because we are all blogging dinosaurs and have been at it for years.
  • The Orang-utan Librarian issues the unfortunately still necessary reminder that book reviews are for readers and not authors!
  • Beth started a discussion on why world building is important to her and I loved that post as it also reminded me why I love it when authors really put in the work when they create a new society.
  • I only just discovered Lily‘s blog, but it was her mentioning one of my favourite school reads as one of her favourite books that sparked my interest. We both knew that not a lot of people had ever heard of that story and I just love that books can bring us together like that. And I really enjoyed reading her posts ever since.
  • Also, a big thank you to Melissa, Sophie, Marie, Malanie, Molly and Sieran for talking about their WIP by doing my original Milestones Write Tag. I always love reading other people’s posts, so please don’t hesitate to do the tag if you are a fellow writer and I might not have tagged you.

So, that was my month! How was yours? Would you watch videos of me? Are you all caught up on Arcadia? Let’s chat!

The Milestones Write Tag

I haven’t done one of my infamous Write Tags in while and I know that at least some of my fellow writers on the blogosphere like doing them quite a bit. So this is your opportunity to explore your characters a bit more in depth, as I will do with my current WIP by answering the questions about Milestones as well. I miss talking about Arcadia (in case you are new to the blog – welcome! All the infos on Arcadia can be found here), because it’s my baby and I still have so much story to tell, but I know that the updates have been scarce. I just want you to know that you have all been amazingly helpful with your lovely feedback and reactions on Twitter and Wattpad. It’s such a motivation for me and seeing the number of views go up to 700 made my heart sing. There’s more coming soon – I promise!

  • Thank the person who tagged you but also link back to the original post(I want to see all your lovely answers, people!)
  • Provide a short description of your WIP/story!
Kasia and Dyson have known each other their entire lives, their paths intertwining at every crossroad. You can check out this post to find out more about Arcadia!
  • Don’t use just one character for all answers if possible! (We want to get to know as many of your characters as possible)

Can your Main Character (MC) remember their first day of school? Who was with them?

Kasia remembers her first day of school as if it had been yesterday. She was nervous as heck, because despite being an inquisitive child who loved to learn, she didn’t know what to expect of all the new people who were about to enter her life. Having been neighbors with Dyson’s family all her life, they went to school together and all her worries evaporated when Dyson confidently took her hand and walked right into school with her without even taking a look back at his parents or brothers.

Which one of your characters would be the first to buy a house or property? (because that’s part of adulting??)

Georgie? She kind of already has a house. Not sure if she paid money for it or if it there was some other kind of transaction though … because magic?

Does someone in your WIP own a pet?

NOT YET! Someone needs a dog. (And no, I am not counting the Claven as Dyson’s “pets” because they are a herd of calm yet mind-controlling beasts …)

What was your MCs first job and how did they feel about it?

While Kasia volunteered at her local library for years during school, her first paying job was a summer internship at her mother’s work. It was a very forgettable experience that mostly involved distributing mail, operating the copy machine and getting coffee for meetings.

Dyson’s first job was at the summer camp he and both his brothers visited each year. He was pretty pumped because he loved being around people and planning activities outdoors. To no one’s surprise at all, he soon became a favourite among the staff and kids.

Does your MC or another character want kids?

That conversation has definitely happened between my main couple and they would love to have kids someday in the future, with Kasia being especially in favour of adoption or fostering kids as well.

Name a song that reminds one of your characters of heartbreak in their life!

This song is one Robyn listens to a lot after Chapter 9 wishing things were different … (shout out to anyone who understands what I am referencing here!)

Has one of your characters lost someone close to them? How did they deal with it?

Findlay had to grow up without his parents, but being from the world he was from, he never quite knew if he lost them for good or if he might be able to see them again one day some way. He was a quiet kid until he got taken in by Georgie’s family and he felt at home with them. (There’s more to that story that I just don’t want to spoil.)

What is an achievement your MC is proud of?

Dyson is especially proud of graduating from university with a major in Archaeology because his family didn’t really think he would truly stick to that field or be able to make a living with it. Nonetheless, they all beamed at him with pride when he showed them his diploma and he never regretted following his passion since.

BONUS: Make an aesthetic for a special or memorable day in one of your character’s lives! (It’s up to you if you want to explain it or not!)

This probably won’t be in the book like ever, but if I ever write a companion novella or something like that for Arcadia, this would probably be the story. Although it might end differently than you think!

I hope you liked the tag and if you did, please, spread the word!!! People have so many amazing stories to tell and I hope this is a burst of motivation for all fellow writers.

Let’s Talk About “Arcadia”!

I’ve gained a lot of followers in the last couple of months (thank you for that!!!), but I have now wondered how many of those people actually know what I am talking about when I mention Arcadia in tags or monthly-wrap ups. So, this is a little introduction to my personal WIP for those of you are unfamiliar with it or haven’t heard about it in a while!

First things first, what is it even about?

Kasia and Dyson have known each other their entire lives, their paths intertwining at every crossroad. So forgetting he ever existed doesn’t make any sense to Kasia and neither does finding out about the magical beings that took him away from her. Now, with the help of some allies with motives of their own, she will do everything she can to get him back, not knowing if either one of them will ever be the same after all is said and done.

Writing a synopsis for my own story is what I am the absolute worst at, however, I hope it gave you some perspective of what it could be about. It’s Fantasy, because I tried regular contemporary but missed my magical elements to bits!

I first started writing this story late in 2016, but then got a bit distracted when I went abroad in 2017. I am now fully committed to write more again, with regular updates in sight. So far, I have shared about 14 chapters (including a prologue) via wattpad. I know that not all of you have an account, but so far it is still the easiest way for me to share the story with a broader audience. I have been looking into alternatives, but nothing has seemed right yet. Anyway, you can read the prologue here without an account, but will need one for further chapters. *whispers* but if you shoot me a nice email and really, really want to read what I have written so far, I might be persuaded to send you a pdf-file! Clearly this is THE secret way of getting my story and you are the only one who knows about it now …

If you would like some more visual impressions of the story, I have somehow managed to include my pinterest board for Arcadia in the post (believe me, that was more difficult than I thought it would be).

There is a variety of characters you will get to meet throughout reading Arcadia and I have introduced most of the main cast in some previous posts. Through some sort of miracle, I have actually been able to make people care about them and I hope you will too, if you decide to take a closer look! Feel free to check those posts out, the latest come first and the oldest posts are listed last.

Previous posts about Arcadia:

I hope I didn’t send you too much through the archives of my blog, but I really hope I could maybe persuade you to check out my WIP! Getting comments, live reactions, gifs and any kind of feedback has kept me motivated so far and I am sure will do so in the future as well.

Who of my lovely followers is a writer as well? How do you feel about sharing your WIP? Have you already checked out Arcadia?

All Hallows Write Tag

I saw this post recently on Melissa @The Bookish Wanderer‘s blog and I absolutely loved the idea. So, although she didn’t tag me personally, she did insinuate that everyone who writes could do this. It’s been a while since I mentioned Arcadia, but (my cousin can attest to that) I am working on it. There’s some problem solving happening and I hope to share more soon. Anyway, I always love a little insight into the characters and this is the perfect chance. So, here’s the All Hallows Write Tag!

  • Provide a short description of your story!
There’s been so many posts about Arcadia already and I still haven’t gotten any better at describing it. Where to start? It’s about a couple having to find their way back to each other after some magical beings messed with their lives (aka kidnapped the boyfriend into another world). Getting tangled up in an ancient struggle for power, they have to be careful to not get sucked in too deep before it is too late.
I am working on that pitch. It’s not at all where I want it to be yet. You can check out the first 10+ chapters here if you are interested. They are a much better representation of the story.
  • Don’t use the same character for more than 3 answers!

It’s Halloween night! What is your protagonist dressed up as?

I feel like neither Kasia nor Dyson would wear something scary, but rather something geeky instead. Couples costumes are out of the question though, just because Kasia very much values her independence and is too chaotic to coordinate. So, in the end, I think Kasia would go as Lara Croft and Dyson as Milo from Atlantis, that way they’d both be adventurers at least, even if they were from different stories.

Who in your cast refuses to dress up and shows up at the Halloween party without a costume?

Alaya, for sure! I very much believe she’d think it’s just a stupid human tradition and she’d see absolutely no reason whatsoever to partake in that.

Which character wears the most outrageous costume, and what would it be?

When it comes to style, Georgie likes to change it up the most from the entire cast. Something tells me that she would not hesitate to go all out and have some elaborate period costume for Halloween. She would then proceed to make up an incredibly enchanting and outrageous backstory for her character, without that person ever having existed.

On Halloween, werewolves, vampires, and zombies are on the prowl. Which of your characters gets caught in their clutches, and which creature do they subsequently turn into?

Is it cheating if I say Kasia? Because, you know … the wolf thing … but in all seriousness, that girl is the most likely to get herself into some sort of trouble by accident.

Who wins the contest for best costume?

Again, Georgie! She is a mastermind when it comes to clothes/costumes/disguises/whatever you want to call it.

Who hands out toothbrushes to the trick and treaters?

Hmmm … I want to say that I can’t imagine anyone doing that, but then I thought maybe Findlay would. Not so much as a healthy precaution for the trick and treaters, but rather to get their house a bad reputation and keep unwanted guests from ringing the doorbell. That seems like something he would try to achieve, just because he hates unannounced guests.

Which two of your characters decide to pair up and do an angel/devil costume together?

Georgie might force Findlay to do that with her, but then she would make him the devil even though he is definitely the angel when it comes to the both of them. And again, Georgie would go totally over the top, whereas Findlay’s costume would be super slick and sharp lines, kind of like the Lucifer from the TV show.

Someone is too scared to even attend the Halloween party. Who is it?

Well, if it’s an actually scary party where they watch horror movies or go to a haunted house and prank each other with jump scares – count Kasia out! She does not like to be scared.

Who overdoses on Halloween candy and ends up sick?

As smart of a man as Dyson is, he has an incredible sweet tooth and will definitely go overboard if given the chance.

Which character is most likely to place a curse/hex on someone and who would they curse?

Oh man, when there are actual curses in your story and several cast members are affected … how do I answer this? *cough* Alaya *cough*

Whoever of my lovely writer friends wants to do this, you are hereby officially tagged! Have fun!

What did you think of this tag? For those who have read Arcadia so far, do you agree with my choices?

Beautiful People Link-Up: August Edition

Beautiful People is a link-up created by Cait @ Paperfury and Sky @ Further Up and Further. Through a different questionnaire each month, it helps you get to know your characters and therefore your story better. I’ve done this in the past and always really enjoyed it. With my life being super busy and me not getting to write as much as I would have liked, I am using this as a motivational tool once again. I am going to answer the questions for both, Kasia and Dyson, this month. If you know nothing about Arcadia, you can go check it out here. Enjoy!

What are they addicted to/can’t live without?

Kasia: Probably cheese. I am pretty sure she would give up all other foods if only she could keep cheese. That’s some real dedication.

Dyson: I’d say the outdoors. He loves to study and read and immerse himself in myths and historic volumes about his latest topic of interest, but if he gets cooped up for too long, he will inevitably go crazy. He loves to camp out and just take a hike every now and then. Exploring is his favorite thing to do!

Name 3 positive and 3 negative qualities about your character.

Kasia: positive – kind, trusting, geeky
negative – stubborn, trusting (yes, this counts for both), messy

Dyson: positive – outgoing, charming, considerate
negative – restless, impulsive, a bit of a know-it-all

Are they holding onto something they should get rid of?

I find this question a bit difficult for my duo, because they are holding on to hope and the past more than anything else right now and I don’t think they should get rid of that. Basically, it’s the only thing that keeps them going, so I don’t have a very good answer for this one.

If 10 is completely organized and 1 is completely messy, where do they fall on the scale?

Kasia: 3

Dyson: 8

What most frustrates them about the world they live in?

Kasia: That magical creatures can just come into her realm and mess with reality.

Dyson: That humans are basically glorified pets.

How would they dress for a night out? How would they dress for a night in?

Kasia: Honestly, Kasia’s outfits probably wouldn’t differ all that much. She’d wear a cool hat and leather jacket for a night out and a bit more comfy clothes when she stays in, like an oversize sweater. Her color palette is very simple and varies from white, grey and dark blue to black. She doesn’t like heels and therefore never wears them. She’d rather wear a nice boot or sneakers.

Dyson: Just like his lady, Dyson is not really one for dressing up. He is into leather jackets as well, but goes for warm colors like brown, forest green or maroon, usually paired with some washed out jeans.

How many shoes do they own, and what kind?

My folks are practical people. I’d say they both own about 4-5 pairs of shoes and most of them are comfortable, with maybe one pair that’s dress shoes for special occasions.

Do they have any pets? What pet do they WISH they had?

Kasia: She has no pets, but she always wanted a dog.

Dyson: I guess you could say that the Claven are Dyson’s pets? Like a herd of fantastical mind-controlling creatures can be counted as pets, right?

Is there something or someone that they resent? Why and what happened?

The entire Arcadian population? And to explain that would basically be the entire book, sooo … you get my drift.

What’s usually in their fridge or pantry?

They lived together for a while, so I can just do that for the both of them. Kasia isn’t much of a cook, so there’s always some instant noodles and stuff around, but Dyson always made sure they had fresh fruit and vegetables at hand as well. He likes to buy some good steak or fresh fish every now and then, but they are living on a budget, so it’s not happening too often. Also, there’s always a variety of cheese.

How is your writing going? Did you learn something new about Kasia and Dsyon today?

March 2017 Wrap-Up

Since I don’t really do TBRs anymore but hauls or collection notices instead, I feel there is much less pressure on me and I like it! I read quite a bit this month and it made me so happy to be more inspired and motivated about books again. So, check it out:

  • The Wicked + The Divine: Vol. 1 (5 stars)
Set my eyes on this and loved it right away!
  • The Wicked + The Divine: Vol. 2 (5 stars)
Remained in love with the art!
  • The Wicked + The Divine: Vol. 3 (2 stars)
Massive disappointment. It felt like such a filler or like a novella to the real story. I didn’t mind the different artwork for most of the issues, except for one. It was terrible, I didn’t even want to look at it.
  • The Wicked + The Divine: Vol. 4 (4 stars)
    Everything was good again.
  • We Are Okay by Nina LaCour (5 stars)
  • Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde (5 stars)
  • Vote Loki (2 stars)
The artwork wasn’t my thing and as you may have noticed by now, that makes out a huge part of my enjoyment for a book.
  • Ms. Marvel: Vol. 4 (3 stars)
The apocalyptic stuff was cool, but I didn’t much care for her team up with Parker.
  • Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner (4.5 stars)
Read this with Cátia and Cristina.
  • A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab (5 stars)
Review for this might come soon, I read this with Marie and Fadwa.

The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 1: The Faust Act  The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 2: Fandemonium  The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 3: Commercial Suicide  The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 4: Rising Action  We Are Okay  Queens of Geek  Vote Loki  Ms. Marvel, Vol. 4: Last Days  Goodbye Days  A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3)

Click on the titles to get redirected to the reviews and on the covers to get to the respective Goodreads pages! I am not reviewing all my books anymore, so if I haven’t posted a review on the blog, you can find a couple sentences below the title to hear my thoughts!

Big news, folks! This has been in the stages of planning for a while now, but since things have gotten more concrete now, I thought it was time to share them now. Some of you already now this, but I will be going to Canada for a couple of months starting May 16. For now I am thinking I will stay the entire 6 months you can get with a regular tourist visa, but it still kind of depends on what the immigration officer tells me when I arrive (keep your fingers crossed for me!!!). I am starting out with two weeks in Toronto, will visit a friend in Montreal and then go to Vancouver by train, stopping at every place I fancy. I’ve been longing for an adventure like this for such a long time now, but it never stops feeling weird when people tell me I am “brave” for making that life choice. I don’t feel brave at all, I feel like this is the only logical thing I could do at my current age with the direction I was going in. Anyway, if you know cool places pretty much anywhere in Canada (which includes everything from bookstores, clubs, bars, pubs, restaurants, parks, bakeries, sights and whatever else you can think of) please let me know!

Also, last month I talked about starting a camera acting class. It’s been such an enlightening experience so far. My anxiety is really getting to me each week, making me feel nauseous like heck, but I get through it and I learn something new every time. Our acting coach is amazing and kind, always putting the feedback in a constructive way. Watching myself is still uncomfortable but to my utmost surprise, I don’t mind the camera that much while we are shooting our scenes. I am not saying that I am a good actress (although I was told that I am improving and I think I had a grin on my face for the rest of the week), that’s for other people to decide, but it’s fun and that’s really all I wanted from this experience.

Last but not least, I “only” wrote one new chapter for Arcadia, but I refuse to see that as a failure, because at least I wrote something. Also, it’s a really long chapter with a flashback? So, yay? Either way, let me know what you think about it! As always, you can read the whole thing here.

How was your month? Tell me all about it!

Beautiful People Link-Up: March Edition

Beautiful People is a link-up created by Cait @ Paperfury and Sky @ Further Up and Further. Through a different questionnaire each month, it helps you get to know your characters and therefore your story better. I tried it a couple times (check out the Valentine’s Edition here) and feel like it helps me keep my motivation up and gives me a great platform to talk about my WIP Arcadia on a sort of regular basis. (You can check out the first couple of chapters of it on wattpad here!)

I am going to answer this month’s questions on behalf of Kasia as I am mostly (but not exclusively) writing from her perspective.

1. What’s their favourite book/movie/play/etc.?

From left to right: The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom (book), The Goonies (movie), Dollhouse (TV show), The Lumineers (band)

2. Is there anything they regret doing?

Kasia tends to be the person who regrets not doing things, rather than doing them. When she was younger, it was mostly other people who had to push her to do things she would have usually missed out on. Most of the time, even if she didn’t end up liking the experience, she was grateful for having tried it anyway. When she got older, she did the pushing herself, but couldn’t always muster up to go to a party all by herself or to approach and talk to people she didn’t know. The times she wishes she had been braver are probably the ones she regrets.

3. If they were sick or wounded, who would take care of them and how?

Dyson knows his girl in and out, so he’d be the one to take care of her for sure. He’d bring all the blankets, gallons of tea and have Netflix ready at her command. But Dyson also knows that she prefers nursing her wounds on her own and would leave her be until she comes to him. Then, he would allow her to cuddle up to him and despite her worries, would assure her a thousand times that no, she would not infect him and get him sick as well.

4. Is there an object they can’t bear to part with and why?

Currently I’d say a certain bracelet, but you’ll have to read the story to find out why.

5. What are 5 ways to win their heart (or friendship)?

  • Showing kindness to others or just common decency, because she hates rude people.
  • Don’t put her in the spotlight and then force her to a make a decision in front of a crowd. She’s most likely only going to freeze up and hold a grudge.
  • Don’t question her when she tells you she doesn’t drink coffee. Tea is a valid alternative.
  • Don’t be late or forget that you were about to meet altogether.
  • It would be nice if every once in a while you could be the one to make contact first, just so she doesn’t feel like she has to do all the work to keep the friendship going.

6. Describe a typical outfit for them from top to bottom.

Kasia is most likely going to wear loose fitting shirts and/or oversize sweaters and vests, tight-fitting jeans (but probably not with holes in them) and sneakers. Comfort is key! Every now and then she likes to mix is up with a leather jacket. She’s not much one for accessorizing, especially necklaces get on her nerves.

7. What’s their favorite type of weather?

SUMMER RAIN! There’s nothing wrong with sunshine, but too much heat can easily become unbearable. Also, she adores petrichor.

Bildergebnis für petrichor gif

8. What’s the worst fight they’ve ever been in?

Kasia is very bad in fights, because she runs out of arguments very quickly even when she is in the right. She had quite some explosive arguments with her parents, even though most of the neighbors would describe her as an angel. But everyone reaches a point where they have to see their parents for who they are and Kasia found herself not liking some of her parents world views. She never really violated curfew or did something dangerous, but they did have a lot of disagreements nonetheless (which she found unfair).

9. What names or nicknames have they been called throughout their life?

Mostly people just go for Kas.

10. What makes their heart feel alive?

Kasia has a thing for the sky. She can really appreciate it when it’s beautiful or unusually colored or just full of stars. She likes to take a second and just stare at it. Also, there is nothing that touches her more than being happy about something and being able to share that joy with someone.

Beautiful People Link-Up: Couples Edition

Beautiful People is a link-up created by Cait @Paperfury and Sky @ Further Up and Further. I’ve done it before and it’s a great way to share a bit of background for your current WIP, as well as a little motivational kick if you are in a writing slump *cough* like me *cough*. Arcadia is my baby and I do want to get back to posting regular chapters on wattpad (seriously, don’t hesitate to check it out! I love getting your reactions), but it just hasn’t been happening for me lately. So, here’s me hoping that a little talk about Kasia and Dyson will get me back into the groove!

  1. How and why did they meet?
That’s an easy one. Born only two days apart from each other and with their family’s living right next door from one another, they were bound to spend their entire childhood together. Luckily for them they also got along so well that they loved spending time with each other after puberty hit, which made it possible for their relationship to develop into something more.
  2. What were their first impressions of each other?
Difficult to say … they were babies. Kasia and Dyson are the kind of people who’ve known each other for so long, they can’t even remember a time they weren’t friends.
  3. How would they prove their love for each other?
It’s the little things that count the most. Like squeezing the other’s hand in reassurance when they were facing something diffiult, remembering when they had an important meeting or interview and telling them that they would do a great job at it or simply searching for the other one’s eyes first whenever they entered a room.

  4. What would be an ideal date?
The two of them, walking around the city, talking and eating. There definitely has to be food! It doesn’t have to be something eventful, just some one-on-one-time.
  5. Is there something they emphatically disagree on?
The future. Dyson thinks that one should do what they love, even if it generates no money. Whereas Kasia believes that it’s important to have monetary security and that a job is just a job. They try to find some common ground, but as long as Kasia isn’t miserable at her job, Dyson is unlikely to push her too hard on the matter.
  6. List 5 “food quirks” they know about each other. (Ex: how they take their coffee, if they’re allergic to something, etc….and feel free to mention other non-food quirks!)
-For the life of her, Kasia cannot eat celery or she will retch.
-Dyson takes his coffee black, while Kasia only drinks black tea with a dash of milk.
-Both like their steaks medium rare.
-Kasia loves cheese to the end of this planet, Dyson does not share her feelings on that matter.
-Dyson hates nuts or crunchy things in chocolate.
  7. What’s one thing they know about each other that no one else does?
One time, during summer break in college, Kasia came to visit Dyson and on a whim, they decided to go on a road trip. Usually Kasia liked to plan those kind of things, but Dyson was always capable of bringing out her spontaneity. So, they packed some necessities and just drove without much of a direction in mind. They met the greatest people, crashed at hotels, motels and strangers’ homes. Barely having any cash, it was difficult to make it work sometimes, but they had the best time of their lives, resulting in one tipsy evening of Kasia proposing to Dyson. They wanted to get married right there and then with all their lovely new friends, but in the end they didn’t do it and never told anyone about it. However, Dyson made up his mind that night, he would propose to Kasia soon and do it right that time – ring and everything.

  8. What’s one thing that they keep a secret from each other?
Before Dyson and Kasia got together, there was one awkward incident of him and their mutual best friend Robyn having to play seven minutes in heaven. They kissed, it was weird, they never wanted to talk about it again and swore to never tell Kasia about it.
Kasia on the other hand didn’t tell Dyson that she flunked her driver’s test the first time because of nerves, she just knew she’d never live it down.
  9. How would their lives be different without each other?
I think Arcadia very much shows that they would be miserable. Kasia has always been on the chubby side and she was happy that way, but without Dyson, her appetite for basically anything in life was simply gone. She didn’t just loose weight though, she also lost some friends, because she turned more and more to work and never had time for anything else.
Yeah and Dyson, he just really misses her. He became a more serious person without her, because he couldn’t be as carefree anymore.
  10. Where do they each see this relationship going?
Before the events of Arcadia happened, I am pretty sure they saw each other as endgame.

Do you feel like you know those two better now? Have you read the uploaded chapters of Arcadia or are you new to these characters?

Writing Insights #6: NaNoWriMo

It’s been a while since I have posted a Writing Insight, but November is the perfect month to dive into a little bit of NaNoWriMo. It’s the third year I am participating and for those of you who don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It’s quite the international venture though, with people from all over the world trying to write 50,000 words for the first draft of their novel in 30 days. Of course you can rebel and edit a previous work, choose your own word count or don’t write a comprehensive story at all. The spirit of the event is to write, no matter how you do it!

When I first tried, I “won” immediately, the second time around I honestly didn’t even try as hard (but I am still proud of getting to 25,000 words) and this year? Well, I am semi-nanowrimo-ing. My current WIP is called Arcadia, as I’ve mentioned several times before, and I don’t just want to rush it. However, I do try to write something every day. (If you haven’t seen it yet, you can read the Prologue + 6 Chapters right here!) So, there’s something that just really makes me want to participate, even when I don’t have the time or brain cells to be full in and here’s why:

  • I know that NaNoWriMo is a pressure of sorts, but it is also a lot of motivation. I am a competitive person, so when I get a task with a specific goal, such as reaching a certain word target each day, I WANT to do it. Also, you can earn badges and I just want to have them aaaaall!
  • If you sign up on the official NaNoWriMo website, you can connect with fellow writers online by adding them as writing buddies (my handle is Kat_Impossible if you want to add me!) BUT you can also come together with people from your region. This isn’t happening everywhere, but many places try to organise kick-off events, write-ins and planning sessions. It’s a fun way to meet new people who have similar interests to you and to find people who will hold you accountable during the month!
  • Whatever you write, know that it is not supposed to be perfect. The whole point of this venture is to get you to creative freedom. Write away, leave all the plotholes in the world in it and at the end of the month, you will have a first rough draft of your story and it’s the most glorious feeling! I am holding back this year, because I am sharing my story as I write it. That’s a scary thing in itself, but I at least try to make sense with it nonetheless. I am not saying that it won’t need a lot of work and time to edit Arcadia in the end, but it might be the tiniest bit easier than it would be if I didn’t care at all.

In the end, there’s no right or wrong way to do NaNoWriMo. I kept this post intentionally short, because I was wondering if you had specific quesitons about that topic? Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo? Did you like the experience or not? Let’s discuss in the comments!
