The Jingle Bell Tag

jinglebell

Sooo, we are very close to Christmas and I haven’t done a single Christmas-y tag yet, so thanks so much to Lois @My Midnight Musings for thinking of me when she did the Jingle Bell Tag! Make sure to check out her post and see which answers she came up with!

“All I Want For Christmas Is You…”

What book do you want to see under the Christmas Tree?

A History of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens of Downworld

I saw it again in a bookstore the other day and it is just SO pretty! I don’t even think there will be any new information in there for me, but the illustrations of my lovelies! I WANT THEM!

“Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time…”

What book that you have read this year have you enjoyed the most?

My Lady Jane

There’s been so many, just think about it! I’ve read the ENTIRE Red Rising series this year and you know how much I love those books. But I think I had the most fun reading My Lady Jane. That book was just hilarious. I know it has flaws in terms of storytelling, but I just felt so incredibly entertained.

“It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas…”

Which book has the most festive look to it?

The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, #4)

IT REMINDS ME OF SANTA’S REINDEER, OKAY!?

Elf

What book unleashes your inner child?

The Thief Lord

Always and forever the same answer …

The Grinch

Your favourite villain…

Morning Star (Red Rising, #3)

The Jackal … I love to hate him? He’s just a terrible person without any kind of empathy.

The Holiday

Name your favourite TWO couples…

Kaz and Inej by taratjah        Malec by MisterLIAR

(Kaz & Inej from Six of Crows by taratjah/Alec & Magnus from various Shadowhunter books by MisterLIAR)

What book would you like to give as a present to your followers?

This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1)

How many times have I proclaimed my love for August? How many times have I mentioned that I am eager to get my hands on the sequel? I want everyone else to *hopefully* fall in love with that story too!

I am not going to tag anyone, because there’s so little time, but if you want to do this – GO AHEAD! I hope you have nice holidays guys!

Character Christmas List Tag!

character

I know that today is TTT, but I am once again going to skip on it. The thing is that I know that I’ll get books this Christmas, but I have no idea which ones. However, my mum does tend to stop by my blog every now and then and I don’t want her to feel weird when I mention random books I’d like to get that she maybe didn’t even know about. I am happy with whatever book I might find under the tree, so TTT is unnecessary. Yet, I am still going to do a tag that involves the number 10!
I was tagged by Rae @Bookmarkchronicles to do the Characters Christmas List Tag. It was originally created by Bianca @The Ultimate Fangirl and Anthony @A Very Awkward Blog. You should go ahead and check out everyone’s post by clicking on their names!

Rules

  • Pick 10 random characters from any book/movie/show and try to figure what you would give them for Christmas 🙂
  • Tag people and spread the word

Mark Watney (The Martian)

I would prepare the best and biggest Christmas dinner ever for him, without using any potatoes whatsoever! I think Watney would really appreciate that!

Leo Fitz (Agents of SHIELD)

If I could, I’d make Jemma’s torn feelings go away and give Fitz a relaxing day together with her – no interruptions, no doubts, not having to pretend to be strong for the sake of the other one!

Laney (Sleeping with Other People)

I love Laney! She’s so funny and witty and I think I would give her a voucher for a dance class of her choice. She has so much energy, she can put that to use there.

Wick 0308 (Dreamer)

wick2Why not give something to one of my own characters, right? I’d give Wick the freedom to do anything and everything exciting he wants to do in the real world. Want to ride a motorcycle? Sure, go up ahead and do that! Skydiving? Why not!

Clara Oswald (Doctor Who)

If you haven’t watched the Series 9 Finale, please do NOT read on! I have warned you!! I’d give her a sonic screwdriver of her own, because she is so much like the Doctor now. She even has her own TARDIS and travelling companion, now she only needs that and voila! Doctor Clara is complete!

Eleanor (The Royals)

I don’t think Len needs anything material. In that respect she has everything one could want, but I would give her the chance to see what I see when Jasper watches her and talks about her. I would want her to know that his feelings are real and that she is not being tricked. She has every right to feel the way she feels right now though …

Jase Garrett (My Life Next Door)

The Garretts are such a lovely family, but they are also quite big. So, I would give Jase (randomly picked him, just to not pick the entire family) all the money he could possibly need in order to get his entire family and himself some Christmas presents. That way they don’t have to worry about a thing.

Julia (The Magicians)

Considering what all she will have to go through until the end of the Magicians series, I sometimes wonder if it would have been better if they could have erased her memories for good. I know she’s vital to the plot, but there would have been so much less pain for her.

Ava (Ex Machina)

I would want Ava to have a real human experience. One where she sees the good side of people, their kindness and empathy and I hope it will transform her.

Sansa Stark (Game of Thrones)

Sansa grew so much on me over time and I think it’s a shame what they did to her in the show. So, for her I would hope that the snow was real, real deep. People who’ve watched the Season 5 Finale will understand!

Christmas Song Book Tag

christmassong

Another Christmas Tag is coming – Shalalala la! Prima @Panda Hearts Books tagged me to do the Christmas Song Book Tag and I will happily oblige, even though I have to admit that I don’t even know all the songs. But either way, don’t forget to click on her name to check out her post!

“You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”

AaronWarner-ProfileName a villainous character you couldn’t help but love.

I can’t really remember ever liking the bad guy … I mean does Warner from the Shatter Me Series count? Because by the end I loved him, but that’s when he wasn’t the villain anymore … tough one!

“All I Want for Christmas is You”

Which book to you most hope to see under your Christmas tree?

I swear this question is in ever Christmas-related post there is … I don’t have any new answers for that one and just to be very clear here – I am going to love whichever book I will get! Because books are awesome!!

“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”

19057Name a character that overcomes major obstacles and learns to believe in themselves.

Ha! Now I want to say Juliette from the Shatter Me Series, but I have this rule of avoiding to name the same book/series twice in a tag. Hmmm … I am going to go off book here and say Ed from I Am the Messenger! He definitely learns a lot about himself throughout the book!

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town”

a) Which character do you think would be on the top of the naughty list?

First name that came to mind was Amarantha from A Court of Thorns and Roses. That lady is cruel!

queen of the damned

b) Which character do you think would be at the top of the nice list?

Hands down, Mark Watney from the Martian deserves everything he could ever want on this planet and the rest of the galaxy!

“Frosty the Snowman”

Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss, #3)Which book just melts your heart?

Because Prima said Anna and the French Kiss, I am going to say Isla and the Happily Ever After, because it truly had such a great happy ending!

“Feliz Navidad”

Choose a book that takes place in a country other than your own.

Okay, we’ve had this before. Almost EVERY book on my shelf takes place in a different country, since I don’t read much that plays in Austria. (Also, there just isn’t much in the genre that I like!) I am just going to randomly point at a book on my shelf now. The Freedom Writers Diary it is!

94153

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”

7741325Which holiday themed book do you use to spread the Christmas joy?

I haven’t read many books themed around Christmas topics, so I’ll have to resort to saying Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, which I love very much!

“Sleigh Ride”

Which fictional character would you choose to spend the holidays with (doesn’t have to be a love interest!)?

Can I please spend it with the Garrett family from My Life Next Door? Yes? THANK YOU!

“Baby It’s Cold Outside”

13621089Which book that you didn’t like would you sacrifice to a fire to warm yourself up in the cold?

I want to state that I am utterly against book-shaming and burning in particular, but this year I just wasn’t particularly fond of Geek Girl … I thought it was too silly.

“Do You Hear What I Hear”

Which book do you think everyone should read?

I don’t think that there’s one book that everyone will magically like. That’s not how it works, but I would definitely recommend the Infernal Devices series because the relationships in this book are epic!

The Joy of Christmas Book Tag!

joyc

Christmas is SO close now and I love all the tags related with it! This time Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much prompted me to do the Joy of Christmas Book Tag! We continue to steal each other’s answers for those things, because apparently our minds think very alike. Prepare for some very close responses again and check out her post to spot the similarities!

1.  Anticipation

The Christmas excitement is real, what book release(s) are you most anticipating?

Okay, I just HAVE TO steal Cátia’s answer, because quite frankly, I haven’t been this excited about a release in a long time. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare will be the new installment in the Shadowhunter universe and I CANNOT WAIT TO READ IT!

Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1)

2. Christmas Songs & Carols

The MartianWhat book or author can you not help but sing its praises?

For the book, I’d definitely go with the Martian and for author Tahereh Mafi. Do I need to explain this? Is it weird that the Martian wasn’t written by Tahereh Mafi?

3. Gingerbread Houses

What book or series has wonderful world building?

I don’t know why, but I really feel like saying the Inkheart series. It plays a lot in the real world, but then again also in this fictional place and I love how the lines blur together.

4. A Christmas Carol

Favorite classic or one that you want to read

I was really tempted to say Persuasion as well, because it’s my favourite Austen book, but I am trying to diversify my answers from Cátia’s. So, I’ll go with the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, because I loved that one too!

396094

5. Christmas Sweets

What book would you love to receive for Christmas

I’ve already mentioned a couple of books that I would like to get. I don’t even know which one to say, because my TBR seriously seems to never end! I think I’d really like to read The Rest of Us Just Live Here soon though …

23830990

6. Candles in the Window

What book gives you that warm fuzzy feeling

Fangirl! I just want to curl up in my bed with a cup of hot chocolate and cuddle with the book … which is not weird at all!

16068905

7. Christmas Trees & Decorations

What are some of your favorite book covers?

Again, this will contain some of Cátia’s answers!

13455782  22328546  9754815  The Martian  23627083

8. Christmas Joy

What are some of your favorite things about Christmas And/Or some of your favorite Christmas memories?

I love think back to when I was little and spent time at my grandma’s on Christmas Eve and when I got back home the tree was all made up. My mum said that the Christkind (we don’t have Santa here) has helped her and that I just missed her. I love how much more magical Christmas was back then!

‘Tis the Season Book Tag!

tistheseason

I knew that the christmas-y tags would come in soon and since I really like them, I am glad that I got tagged by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much to do the ‘Tis the Season Book Tag! It’s going to be tough coming up with better or even just different answers from her, but I’ll try my best!

1. Do you have a favorite winter read?

7741325Absolutely! Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares is the perfect read for this season, even though I actually didn’t read it in winter. Either way, I think of Christmas when I think of the book.

2. Find a book with blue on the cover!

18371031There are quite a lot of books with blue covers, but my question is, does it have to be a winter-y blue? Because then I’ll definitely go with my version of Winter’s Tale by Mark Helprin!

3. Find a book you’d use as the star on a Christmas tree!

1680190Uuuuh, that’s a good one! The dust jacket of my Molly Moon’s Hypnotic Time Travel Adventure by Georgia Byng has a golden dust jacket and it would look glorious on the Christmas Tree. Unfortunately I can’t show the original now, so you’ll have to deal with a yellow version of it.

4. Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a winter vacation!

Argh! I already said Narnia in the Dashing Through the Snow tag and it was Cátia’s answer as well, so I have to find something else. Hmmm, can I spend Christmas at the circus from the Night Circus? Because that would be so magical and great and full of awe! (Cookie picture from Not Your Momma’s Cookies!)

5. Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your winter vacation!

I hate it when I have to pick just one … How am I supposed to do that? Hmmm, who’s a character I have neglected a little in the past? I think Christms would be really fun with Étienne St. Clair from Anna and the French Kiss!

6. Name one book on your wish list this year!

The Boy Most Likely ToThere are tons of books on my wishlist. I’d really like to read Huntley Fitzpatrick‘s book The Boy Most Likely To. It plays in the same universe as My Life Next Door and I loved those characters! Revisiting them would be great!

7. Favorite holiday drink, treat, & movie?

Tough one! I’ll stay with Chai Tea Latte for holiday drink – the cinnamon fits the season. I love to eat speculoos as treats and movie … well, aside from Love, Actually, I also like to watch The Santa Clause from 1994.

8. Who do you tag?

*Feel free to ignore the tag if you’ve done it already or simply don’t want to!*

Dashing Through the Snow Book Tag!

dashing

The Dashing Through the Snow Book Tag is the first winter-related tag I am doing this year and it was created by my friend Astra over at A Stranger’s Guide to Novels. You should definitely go and check out her original post! But what is up with all you guys being so creative and making your own tags! I am so impressed! But without further ado, let’s get on with it!

Rules:

  • Thank the curator
  • Tag 5 people to spread the Christmas joy
  • Have fun!

1. Name a book you would like to see under your Christmas tree!

Just ONE!?!?! I’m trying to think of something I probably wouldn’t buy myself and that’s Once Upon a Time – Red’s Untold Tale! Ruby is one of my favourite characters on the show and I already have the Once Upon a Time version of the Grimm fairy tales. I bet it would look nice next to it!

Once Upon A Time

2. A book you’ll be reading during the Christmas Season!

That’s kind of difficult because it entirely depends on what I get for Christmas. But in the unlikely event that I don’t get any books, I’d like to refer you to my December TBR.

3. Favourite Christmas Movie?

You simply cannot go wrong with Love Actually! It’s adorable each and every time!

4. Do you like snow?

YAAAAS! But only the really fluffy, untouched and white one. Since I live in a quite busy city, it turns into grey mud way too soon.

5. Name a character you would like to spend your Christmas day with!

Again, just ONE!?!?!? My brain is close to an overload because it’s so difficult to decide … technically you didn’t write the word “one” though! Well, I’d either like to spend it with all the characters from the Infernal Devices, The Mortal Instruments, Fangirl, The Martian, Bitten, Landline, The Night Circus … I LOVE ALL MY BOOKS!

6. To give or to receive?

The best is a little bit of both, if you know what I mean? Last year my family donated a goat in my name to a family in need in a developing country. I got a postcard with a really funny and cute goat on it and the family has the animal. That’s what I call a win-win!

7. What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

NARNIA! I just associate it with snow and the Pevensie kids got great presents from Santa. Also, I’ve been watching way too much of the Royals lately and William Moseley is just so swoon-worthy. So, preferably, I’d want to spend it with Prince Liam/King Peter …

8. Fondest Christmas memory?

I think it has to be the Christmas I got my hamster. He was my favourite pet from all the ones I had, but I should probably mention that all the ones before him were goldfish. Either way, my family made me sing a song and when I turned around I saw the hamster cage and I didn’t realise that he was in there. I thought he was a cardboard figure of a hamster that I might get in the next days. He was standing there, just staring at me, apparently having been either mesmerized or traumatized by my singing. (Wish I could show a picture, but I have none on my laptop …)

9. Can you say Christmas tree ten times FAST  in a row (pronouncing it correctly!)

No … at some point it sounded like Christmas pee and I had to stop because I was laughing so hard.

Tagging time! I TAG:

*As per usual, feel free to ignore the tag if you don’t want to do it. There will never be peer pressure on my blog!

Landline by Rainbow Rowell (Book Review)

landline“Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems beside the point now.
Maybe that was always beside the point.
Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.
When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.
That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .
Is that what she’s supposed to do?
Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?”

I have to give a huge shout out to Cristina @My Tiny Obsessions, because without her I probably wouldn’t have gotten around to reading the book for another year or so. THANK YOU FOR SENDING IT TO ME!!!

I’ve found that it’s impossible for Rainbow Rowell do disappoint me. I seriously don’t think it even matters what she writes about, because all her characters are just insanely relatable and fun to get to know. They are flawed, but even more importantly, they are real. Georgie McCool is a writer for TV and even though I am not, I have worked with a couple of them and that made me instantly connect to her. I know how stressful her job can be and how insane you can get when you are getting close to a deadline. I loved her relationship with Neal and equally so with Seth.
They are such different characters, they were bound to clash somehow, especially because they each love her in their own way. And so does she! Reading her story, I really could see her feelings develop and why she wasn’t willing to let go of either of them. So, while I do understand Georgie and her very separate relationships with both of the men in her life, I definitely think she could have handled the situation differently. She built up this wall between her work life and her life at home, making up rules about what each of the men could to talk to her about. But that’s not how life works! Life is messy and the lines get blurred – Georgie should have known better. That’s all water under the bridge now though, especially since I don’t want to spoil you.

In the end I should probably mention that it didn’t hit me as much emotionally as some of the Rowell‘s other books. I don’t know if it was because of the topics that were dealt with or because of all the things left unresolved. I know that Rainbow Rowell does that a lot and I’ve learnt to deal with it, but there are just so many questions unanswered. Either way, that phone was a real Christmas miracle and stories like that are always great!

Now, don’t read on if you haven’t read the book! SPOILER-WARNING!

I just wanted to add that I like how subtly Rainbow Rowell spun in that Heather was gay. I didn’t expect it at all, but I loved that it was no big deal whatsoever, because that’s exactly the way it should be!

Fazit: 3.8/5 stars! Perfect romance for the Christmas time that will make you value your time with the family!

Have you read the book? What’s your take on it?
