Trailers You Might Have Missed … (May 9-15)

trailers

Most weeks these posts are very movie-heavy, but it’s that time of the year where a ton of shows get cancelled (you’ll be missed Undateable) and other new ones get introduced. Prepare for some very short teasers to possible new shows as well as the usual movie trailers!

Movies

Assassin’s Creed

Many people have feared and dreaded this trailer. Game adaptations don’t always work so fine, but I actually like this one. I guess the music is highly debatable and I’ve never played the game, but I think look-vise it seems legit. Any gamers who want to give us their input?

Nerve

I thought this actually looked like an interesting and funny sort of teen- or at least younger-ish audience movie. Then it totally turned dark and dangerous. I still want to watch it though.

The Accountant

Uhm, not a fan of Ben Affleck, so that sort of puts me off. Also, I am not sure how well he will mix with Anna Kendrick. But I bet this could somehow make an interesting Thriller if you are into it.

Indignation

Awe, Logan Lerman is seeming more grown up with each new film I see, even though I doubt that this is my cup of tea.

Hell or High Water

In the beginning I was like “meh, even with Chris Pine I am not sure” but the second half kind of made me want to see it. That’s some real sibling-love.

Into the Forest

This is not my kind of movie, because it creeps me out. But I do believe that this one has great and subtle cinematography.

TV Shows

Time After Time (ABC)

I am intrigued to be honest. Time travel shows are always interesting!

Still Star-Crossed (ABC)

An eternal curse on the families of Romeo and Juliet because of what they have done? I like it!

Notorious (ABC)

I don’t actually know what this is about, but the colours and the fact that Piper Perabo is in it kind of reminds me of Covert Affairs. Guess that’s definitely not it.

Conviction (ABC)

ABC must really like Hayley Atwell. I am not super into law dramas (which I am guessing this one is) but I will check it out nonetheless.

Imaginary Mary (ABC)

This already looks super awkward and kind of hilarious. Her imaginary friend reminds me of the worry eaters though.

Speechless (ABC)

Well, that left me a little speechless.

Dark Matter & Killjoys Season 2 (Syfy)

I LOVE BOTH THOSE SHOWS SO MUCH! *fangirling over*

So, that was a lot for one day. What are you going to watch? What are you going to pass up?

Dark Matter Season 1 Finale

What a journey it’s been! So many twists and turns and revelations. I hope you enjoyed Dark Matter as much as I did and therefore won’t mind the upcoming Spoilers!

So neither Killjoys (which ended last week and I didn’t write a review for – sorry!) nor Dark Matter have been renewed for a Season 2, which is a real shame in my opinion. Renew the shows already, because they definitely were great summer sci-fi programs that I’d like to see more of!

I think we can all agree that we learned a lot about the characters, while still having to learn a lot about them. Especially after the finale!!! Let’s break it down one crew-member at a time to see what we discovered about them throughout the season:

  • One: So, he’s not actually Jace Corso. We now know that he actually came on the ship to revenge his murdered wife, but his rivalry with Three definitely made him blind to the real traitor among the crew. His relationship with Two is also a bit rocky … at least he might have a legit excuse to get released by the Galactic Authority since he’s not Corso?
  • Two: FINALLY the mystery was resolved. She’s pretty much an engineered being that should not be captured or she’d be in real danger of being destroyed. There is still a lot we don’t know about who really constructed her and for what reason. We got a glimpse at it, but there’s still so much more to find out. I’m sad to think that Five doubted her, but I probably would have too. Well … Two is still boss and I bet she’ll find a way out of this dilemma.
  • Three: Who would have thought the guy had such a heart? I didn’t trust him in the beginning, and trust might still be a strong word, but I definitely like him. He’s one of my favourites and cracks me up every episode. I wish they wouldn’t have taken away his love interest that quickly though.
  • Four: I am glad he considers taking his empire back, although that seems pretty difficult from where he’s currently at. However, I was so excited to hear that he is training Five and that he was the one who let her stay on ship in the first place. I think seeing some training scenes would be awesome in the future!
  • Five: She’s my favourite! Those goggles and her outfits – could she be any cooler? I like her innocence and her wanting to belong to the crew. And I love how everyone wants to protect her, even though she’s quite capable herself. She’s just an amazing character!
  • Six: HOW DARE YOU? I don’t even know who he is anymore. I just don’t understand how he could do this to his friends, especially Five. He was like father to her! There needs to be some serious explaining in Season 2 (and yes, I am just assuming there will be one)!
  • Android: Can we all just agree on how amazing Zoie Palmer was as the Android! I loved how she wasn’t just like a robot, but actually their friend and with some really funny quirks to her personality. Also, people who can play a double-role are always cool! I hope she won’t be rebooted with a different personality!
  • He’s not a crew member but it was still a mighty fine surprise to see Wil Wheaton on Dark Matter. Even though the same can’t be said about his character …

So, what do you think? I have no idea how the crew is going to get out of this and how they’ll ever forgive Six but I NEED MORE! That’s my opinion, but what is yours?

Summer Review: Killjoys

The last shows I reviewed were Science Fiction shows, so I thought, why break the streak? Killjoys is another show that airs on Syfy and Space that is rocking futuristic outer space this summer! As always, beware of mild Spoilers!

So, we’re already a couple of episodes into the show and the main plot revolves around a team of Killjoys, who are basically nationless mercenaries that capture (and sometimes kill) high value targets. The team started out as a duo, but soon takes on a very personal mission, involving the brother of one of the members being the target of a kill mission. In order to get him out of the mess, they offer the company another thing or rather person they want and recruit the brother for their own team.

The leads all have great chemistry with each other, there are a lot of mysteries surrounding the characters as they each bring baggage from their past. So far, I find Aaron Ashmore‘s character to  to be the most likable of the bunch, mostly because I don’t yet understand the others as well or at least think that he has the least secrets.  The setting is perfectly standard Sci-Fi, which, in my opinion, makes Killjoys an enjoyable genre-piece. The show is fast-paced with a lot of action and fighting, different missions each time and still a lot to discover.

I heard a lot of people compare it to Firefly, but that’s not what comes to mind for me. I would go into this, not having too high expectations for the show and just enjoy it. It airs on the same night as Dark Matter and somehow I could see them being in the same universe. I don’t know for how long those shows will survive, but if they do, a crossover would be so cool (maybe the Killjoys get a warrant for the crew of the Raza?).

What are your thoughts?
