Trailers You Might Have Missed … (Jun 17-23)

Another week, another batch of trailers. I hope you are not getting tired of these kind of posts, because they will most likely keep on coming. Here’s what I got for you this time around.

Movies

Trolls World Tour

Sure, why not? We don’t do standalone movies at this point anymore after all.

Point Blank

Mackie is really in with the Netflix crowd these days, huh?

The Peanut Butter Falcon

I haven’t seen Shia in anything for forever.

Crescendo

I’d watch this? And not just because I “know” someone from the movie … I think …

Killerman

This looks like something they shouldn’t even release in theatres but rather go straight to VOD.

Ready or Not

This is a horror movie I am not going to watch, but that cast! *sobs* Why can’t Melanie/Wynonna be in something I can watch?

TV Shows

The Rook

Here’s another look at The Rook, which I think is going to be right up my alley.

The Boys

Still bitter my screening of the show during the festival got cancelled …

On Becoming a God in Central Florida

I am not sure this is for me.

Sintonia

Okay?

Family Reunion

It’s a maybe.

GLOW (Season 3)

Sam and Ruth just need to happen, okay?

Stranger Things (Season 3)

I think it’s better to not watch any more promos at this point.

Dear White People (Date Announcement S3)

I am looking forward to the actual return of the show.

Élite (Date Announcement S2)

September is still a whiles away.

Will you be tuning in to any of these shows or go see some of the movies? Let’s talk about it!

What I’ve Been (Binge-)Watching #16

I meant to post something more this week and also answer my anniversary Q&A but there was just a lot going on. HOWEVER, I have a week off work as my parents come to visit and we will see if I can make some time for this lovely blog as well. Here’s what I’ve been watching lately:

Alias Grace

Nobody said I only ever have to watch things that were recently released. I guess I did a sort of Margaret Atwood binge, but also … I just typed in Zachary Levi on Netflix and clicked on the first thing that came up (Lois might understand best why I searched for him specifically, because of what I told her this week). It’s a really intriguing show that deals with so much more than I thought it would. To me, it was extremely fascinating how you never truly knew what was going on, who was telling the truth and who was spinning tales just for the audience. I liked it a lot, as short lived as it was and despite the fact that no one looked their supposed age whatsoever.

For fans of: Margaret Atwood, historical exploration of mental health, based on true story but dramatised fiction now kind of shows, not knowing the truth at the end, science vs. beliefs

The Handmaid’s Tale (Season 3)

I watched the European premiere of Season 3 of the Handmaid’s Tale as part of the free screenings one could go to during the Berlin TV Series Festival. I didn’t see the entire season (although I am up to date with the now released episodes I think), but it was still amazing to get to experience this on a huge screen (we watched it in a movie theatre). Aesthetically, I always found this show incredibly pleasing. It’s not for everyone and I think you really have to give yourself to it and I understand if some people can’t or don’t want to do that. I get the direction they are taking with this new season and don’t think they have done anything majorly shocking thus far. It’s hard to tell which side Serena is on, which annoys me, but June is such a fighter. I wish this show would end on a happy note, but I am not sure it can?

For fans of: the previous seasons? Please don’t just start watching this season out of the blue …

Good Omens

I know, I know, you’ve all been waiting for my verdict on Good Omens (another show I saw at the Berlin TV Series Festival) and *drum roll* I LOVED IT! The angel-demon-dynamic was everything and I would just watch Aziraphale and Crowley going through the centuries together for ages. I must say that the show wasn’t perfect. A couple side-storylines such as the witch and the witchfinder weren’t really my cup of tea (and I say this with the utmost love for Adria Ajorna – my one true Dorothy – and Jack Whitehall), but it just felt a tiny bit misplaced or rushed. Maybe I just personally didn’t connect with them as much as I did with other characters. Anyway, it was a lot of fun and I enjoy that this is a mini-series. You could obviously always continue with more, but this was a really neat package, a glimpse at a certain moment in time, and I am good with that.

For fans of: Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett storytelling, anyone from this fabulous cast, biblical-esque stories, Lucifer

Yellowstone

Yellowstone is one of those hidden TV gems for me. Being a sort of love child of Dynasty and the Sopranos, it’s everything my drama-yearning-heart wants plus horses. Set in Montana, Yellowstone is all about the Dutton family and their quest of owning all the land and not yielding to anyone. They basically rule that town up there. This is a rather serious show, so when I say that the characters despise each other, I truly mean that they could possibly kill one another and feel no remorse. It’s intense that way! Even after an entire season, I don’t fully understand the hatred and resentment between a couple characters, but I am still intrigued. It does go over the top with the drama, but in a violent way instead of a ridiculous one. Things keep escalating and you feel like no one will ever be able to catch their breath again, I like those sorts of stakes.

For fans of: cowboys, family dynasties, beautiful landscape, scheming to no end, slow narration

Euphoria

There’s only one episode out, so this is not real judgement on the entirety of the show at all, but I am not sure this is for me. Visually, I quite enjoyed what they did, but in terms of narration, it just rubs me the wrong way. There is nothing wrong with portraying teenagers in a crude and harsh drug-filled but empty existence where everyone struggles. That is life and from what I heard on some other platforms, the depiction on the show is not exaggerated in terms of what actual teens these days are going through, but still, it’s just not for me. I felt uncomfortable watching this one single episode alone and again, I know that’s often what shows are striving for, but it doesn’t mean that I have to want to subject myself to it.

For fans of: philosophical narration, sex and drug-crazed teens in HBO quality

So, this is it! How up to date are you on your watchlist? Did anything catch your eye?

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (Jun 10-16)

I am going to my third screening at the TV Series Festival in Berlin today and don’t know how long it will actually take, so I am posting the trailers a little earlier than usual.

Movies

Frozen 2

This still does not feel like it was made for children.

Good Boys

I know it’s dumb, but I still need to laugh.

Above the Shadows

I am not saying this looks like a good movie, but it totally feels like a paranormal mystery romance novel.

The Art of Self-Defense

I don’t know about this one. It SAYS Offbeat Comedy Classic, but it just feels … violent instead.

Sword of Trust

I can’t believe this is a movie.

Official Secrets

I miss Matt Smith as the Doctor. That’s what I got from this trailer.

Doctor Sleep

Yeah, no. I am out. But I know some people will appreciate it.

TV Shows

Veronica Mars (Season 4)

YAS! My heart is ready for my faves to return.

Pennyworth

Still not convinced this was necessary, although Ben Aldridge and Paloma Faith make a good point … by simply being in this.

Fast and Furious: Spy Racers

Why Netflix? Just why?

The Bold Type (Season 4)

2020??? I know that they filmed almost everything at once, so why is the wait still so long?

Are you going to watch any of these? Let’s talk about it!

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (Jun 3-9)

So, this first week of June was quite hot where I live and I am not here for it at all. I know everyone is looking forward to summer, but the heat is exactly why I don’t. That’s my personal weekly update, but now on to the trailers!

Movies

Brittany Runs a Marathon

I kind of love the trailer already. Here’s to hoping this will be as great in long format and serve as some sort of inspiration.

Shaft

Not saying I wouldn’t absolutely watch this, but the way this trailer was edited was weird.

Being Frank

Kind of digging this weirdness.

Funny Story

Not sure there is actually anything funny about this.

Luce

Now we’re talking! I love movies that are able to make trailers that don’t in fact tell you all there is and actually keep you interested in what is going to happen in the end. Who is lying? Who is telling the truth? What’s going on?

Ad Astra

Give me all the weird space stories and I shall watch them eventually. (Also, the title just makes me think of Red Rising. Per aspera ad astra and all that jazz)

After the Wedding

I have no idea what’s going on, but looks interesting enough.

Ford v. Ferrari/Le Mans 66

I like racing movies, but it is wild how dangerous that stuff is if you really think about it.

TV Shows

Carnival Row

I don’t have any idea what is happening. I WILL watch this, but … Orlando Bloom is too old to date someone like Cara on screen and I don’t have to like it, even if others don’t care.

The Rook

This is also a book and I am very interested in it all. Give me all the supernatural/magic stuff.

Jessica Jones (Season 3)

I am looking forward to this. Krysten even directed part of this season.

Money Heist (Part 3)

Reef Break

This looks exactly like a show that won’t even make it through an entire season.

Did anything here catch your eyes? Are you going to watch something from the list? Let’s talk about it!

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (May 27-Jun 2)

Not gonna lie, I am surprised I got around to this post considering the fact that I got distracted by the hundreds of old SNL clips I watched on YouTube this weekend. Anyway, we have gathered here for trailers though, so you shall receive them.

Movies

Onward

Here for it!

The Goldfinch

This trailer is beyond beautiful and I cannot wait for this movie.

The Kitchen

I adore this casting. I feel like Elisabeth Moss is a curveball but one that works!

A Rainy Day in New York

Not even Timothée can make me go watch this movie. Woody Allen and I don’t mix.

Plus One

Tell me this doesn’t look super fun?

Rambo: Last Blood

How is there another movie?

Life Overtakes Me

This documentary is going to make me so sad.

TV Shows

Dark – Trilogy

IT IS GETTING A THIRD SEASON AND WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THE FULL STORY AND I AM BLISS

GLOW (Season 3)

Gosh, I love these ladies.

Jessica Jones (Season 3)

Guess this is the end of Marvel content on Netflix …

Mixed-ish

I feel like I missed out by not watching Black-ish or Grown-ish.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

I feel like this looks like something out of the 80s or 90s, but not in a bad way.

Trinkets

So, next to How to Sell Drugs (online) fast Netflix is really being a role model, huh?

Family Business

I’ve seen stuff like that too often I am afraid …

Will you be tuning in to any of those films or series? Let’s talk about that!

What I’ve Been (Binge-)Watching #14

I know this month was a lot of the same same kind of posts, but I vouch to do my best to not repeat that routine in June. However, for the fun of it, here’s another binge-watching post to finish the month of May!

What/If

I didn’t really know what to expect from this show, but whatever it did end up being turned out to be rather meh. AS A JOKE, I made a prediction in the very beginning and I kidd you not, that’s what actually ended up happening. I don’t mind predictable shows in general, but for something that supposedly tried to shred itself in mystery, I was not impressed.

The characters are fine, but not all too believable and a bit exaggerated at times. I did not understand the point of the best friends’ storyline at all, as it was not connected to any of the main drama and therefore I couldn’t bring myself to really care. Their part of the show just felt utterly misplaced. However, what I really did love was the gay couple and Kevin, they brought a gust of fresh air to the show and even made me so emotional, I cried.

To me, the story is kind of done now, but I don’t know if it was intended as a limited series or something that could be extended. I don’t personally need a continuation.

For fans of: rich people scheming, people failing to take the moral high-ground, trust issues and complex family dynamics

She’s Gotta Have It (Season 2)

It took me a little bit, because the storytelling format is so unique, but I really fell in love with the first season of She’s Gotta Have It. In my humble opinion, the show flew a little under the radar and I hope it eventually gets more exposure, but so far I am just enjoying the ride.

Although I first thought that Season 1 was a little more compact and maybe even personal, I did end up adoring the new season as well. Nola Darling is a queen and it never fails to impress me that they manage to add such amazing artists to the fold. The ending of this season is highly controversial, but I like the boldness of it all. AND I adore that Anthony Ramos is in it. The dude deserves to be in everything and I am just so very happy they let him sing!

For fans of: art, openly talking about cultural and political injustice, bold statements, a lot of love going around, LGBT+ characters

Godzilla II: King of the Monsters

Speaking of Anthony Ramos … my man was in this movie too! Totally didn’t go to watch it just because of him, because I wasn’t actually aware of the fact before entering the movie theater, but I probably would have done it had I known. Anyway, the movie!

I don’t really know what to tell you. I didn’t actually see the last Godzilla movie … or Kong: Skull Island … which I feel like I should have watched beforehand. It’s not that I didn’t get what was going on, but I feel like maybe I would have felt higher emotional stakes had I at least watched the previous Godzilla movie. They are DEFINITELY planning another movie and it’s for sure going to be Kong vs. Godzilla from the set up I saw. I was neither all too impressed nor annoyed by this one, so I’d probably watch a sequel.

For fans of: huge CGI battles in either super dark blue clouds of dust or explosions so bright that they will make your eyes hurt, the Godzilla franchise (?)

Destination Wedding

With John Wick 3 releasing in cinemas, I felt a need to get some romancing Keanu back in my life (I fell for the man because of romantic drama extraordinare – The Lake House, I don’t care about all the cool stuff he was otherwise in) and Destination Wedding seemed like a good choice. I was not prepared for the whole movie to just be Keanu and Winona talking with each other or thinking about one another or being mad at each other. There are literally no other people who talk! It’s amazing!!!

There really isn’t more to say. That’s all I am leaving you with.

For fans of: Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder and a lot of dry, intelligent and sarcastic humour

Always Be My Maybe

I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO FREAKING MUCH!!! I know that Netflix isn’t perfect, even though I adore a whole lot of their content, and that their RomComs especially can be hit or miss. Well this one was a clear HIT! Always Be My Maybe is warm-hearted, sweet, laugh-out-loud-hilarious, fast-paced goodness. It was perfectly cast and even had a cameo of Keanu Reeves playing “himself”. I died!

Randall Park and Ali Wong just have the best chemistry and I truly believed the awkwardness and love between them. I don’t want to give away anything, but they did such a great job and I would watch them play off each other for hours. It’s a real joy to watch and … Randall can rap!? Like for real rap! I just want to know if his band is real, because those tunes are stuck in my head now.

For fans of: RomComs! Best friend to lovers trope, a great soundtrack

Did you watch any of the things I watched? Do you maybe want to? Let’s chat about that!

Trailers You Might Have Missed … (May 20-26)

Another busy week has come and gone. I don’t know how, but lately everything feels like it lasts a lifetime and goes by in the blink of an eye at the same time. Here’s looking at what this week brought to us in terms of trailers:

Movies

Abominable

Awe, this is cute!

Downton Abbey

The music gives me chills still.

The Art of Racing in the Rain

How is this a movie about a doggo?

Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood

I am not a Tarantino person, but I need to see this movie.

Terminator: Dark Fate

I blocked out that this was happening.

Stuber

I think Kumail is hilarious, but I don’t know if pairing him with Drax works.

TV Shows

Stranger Things (Season 3)

I, too, believe that Dacre is hot, but Billy is a little monster. Dude needs to not mess everyone up just because he can’t be real with himself. But still – STRANGER THINGS!!!!

Westworld (Season 3)

Well, hello there, Aaron Paul! Looks like you’ll be bringing something different to the show.

Pose (Season 2)

Still so fabulous.

Jinn

I think I preferred the Teaser, but I’ll watch it regardless.

The InBetween

Is this a more stale version of Ghostwhisperer?

Black Mirror: Smithereens

Did they always used to do single trailers for every episode?

Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too

Cause it makes me feel like I know a bit too much ahead of the episode.

Black Mirror: Striking Vipers

And there are only three in total, which is not a lot …

Will you be watching any of the shows or films mentioned? Let’s chat!
