Kiss, Marry, Kill: TV Edition

You all know, we’ve done this before! There was the book edition, the TV & book edition and this beautiful Valentine’s Day we are focusing on TV alone. I was even too lazy to make a new graphic, but that’s the beauty of this tag and this tradition … it still doesn’t get old. (At least I hope so!?!?!)

As always, this is also your yearly reminder that Valentine’s Day should not make you feel bad about yourself if you are single. I’ve never spent that day with anyone in particular and I am just fine! This day is just as much as about self love, if you choose it to be, so – be a little kinder to that face in the mirror today!

**all names and shows were randomly drawn**

ROUND 1

Kiss: Sutton (The Bold Type) – I don’t really have an explanation for this? Out of these three characters I feel the most neutral about Sutton??

Marry: Gert (Marvel’s Runaways) – Everyone who knows me, knows that I love Gert. I think marriage could be kind of exhausting with her, but she is fierce and not to be messed with and doing the best she can in a tough spot and I love her for that.

Kill: Manfred (Midnight, Texas) – Given how often he has been possessed by ghosts now … maybe he should just join them?

ROUND 2

Kiss: Marcy (Travelers) – Marcy is so pretty and cool, but also from the future with a very high intellect and I am not sure how I’d feel being with her for longer? So a kiss it is.

Marry: Michael (Roswell, New Mexico) – Michael is a broken boy, but I love him. He brings out the silly “I want to save THIS particular bad boy and love him forevermore”-feels in me.

Kill: Otis (Sex Education) – I am so sorry! Otis is like a precious bean, but he’s also so young and I can’t imagine dating him either??

ROUND 3

Kiss: Nick (The Handmaid’s Tale) – he is one handsome devil. Nick isn’t a bad man, but he is also not a good one. I credit that to the world he lives in, but I’d rather just have a brief encounter with him.

Marry: Jules (Imposters) – that woman has been through some heartbreak, but I am sure I could be the stable environment she needs. I am super trustworthy. Also, I always wanted to make a con artist fall in love with me. It’s a whole thing.

Kill: Elsa (Plan Coeur) – I never know how to explain the “kill” decisions, because Elsa is such an awkward mess that I super relate to her, but together we’d be terrible.

ROUND 4

Kiss: Matthew (A Discovery of Witches) – I am sort of over vampires, but … Matthew intrigues me. I’d like to know what a kiss feels like.

Marry: Alan (Russian Doll) – he was one of my favourite parts of the brilliance that was Russian Doll. He has his issues, just like everyone else (maybe a couple more), but he has a golden heart. I couldn’t imagine anyone nicer by my side.

Kill: Cameron (Halt & Catch Fire) – She is badass, but she also always believes she is right, holds a grudge forever … wow, dang … that all sounded way too familiar to myself. But my issue is that she lets her friends down and believes she is superior to them.

ROUND 5

Kiss: Eleanor (The Good Place) – Girl is a snack, as she constantly likes to point out herself!

Marry: Fallon (Dynasty) – would I like to have the comfort and security that comes with being a Carrington? Heck, yeah! I just don’t want all the drama and backstabbing.

Kill: Lisa (Friends from College) – Lisa is in enough love drama without me. I actually really like her on the show, unlike a lot of other viewers apparently, but out of the three here, she just wouldn’t be my top pick.

ROUND 6

Kiss: Tandy (Cloak and Dagger) – Tandy is a mess, but a cute one?

Marry: Buck (9-1-1) – not gonna lie, I am just majorly crushing on this dude. The way he was into Abby, I mean, that’s a girl’s dream! I want that for myself!!

Kill: Joe (You) – Easiest choice ever!!! One less creep out and about.

ROUND 7

Kiss: Amanda (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency) – she’s cool. I’ve got nothing more.

Marry: Wynonna (Wynonna Earp) – She’s even cooler. I have even less to say.

Kill: David (Schitt’s Creek) – I AM SO SORRY! I adore David, but he’s a lot. Like a lot a lot.

ROUND 8

Kiss: Hope (Legacies) – I didn’t always like Hope, but she has grown on me. And she does have vibes with Josie, so I think she’d kiss a girl.

Marry: Schneider (One Day at a Time) – He’s such a lovable dork. I think him being in a loving environment, surrounded by family, that would really do him good. Just look at how he blossoms when he is with the fam on the show.

Kill: Alyssa (The End of the F***ing World) – Nah, I just couldn’t see myself with her.

ROUND 9

Kiss: Jasper (The Royals) – my beloved bodyguardian angel. I’d steal a kiss, but he’ll be forever with Len in my mind.

Marry: Dylan (Tidelands) – I just … uhm … think he’s hot? And he’s half siren! That’s my jam.

Kill: Carmen (Siempre Bruja) – I keep wanting to apologize to the characters, even though someone always has to die …

ROUND 10

Kiss: Tommy (Peaky Blinders) – that man is in pieces and I would never dare suggest I could somehow make him whole again.

Marry: Sansa (Game of Thrones) – my one and only true Queen!

Kill: Star (Star) – I envy her for her voice and tenacity, but that girl is so selfish and mean and sometimes straight violent.

So, that concludes this year’s Kiss, Marry, Kill. I know my taste in shows is pretty out there, so I hope there weren’t too many shows that no one knows in the mix. Feel free to ask about any you want to know more about though! As always, I’d love to chat! What do you think of my choices?

Kiss, Marry, Kill – TV & Book Edition

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope you have a wonderful day, whether you are with a sweetheart or by yourself like me. This just makes it the perfect occasion for me to do a tag for imaginary relationships, wouldn’t you agree?

I have done the Kiss, Marry, Kill Book Tag before (also on Valentine’s Day … I see a pattern there), but I wanted to switch it up a little. So, instead of doing 10 rounds of books only, I will do 5 TV rounds and 5 book ones. The rules are very simple: you put Goodreads on random to pick the books and then open them at a random page to select a character. For TV shows, I will do a random pool of shows and names and just draw them from a hat or something. Enjoy!

ROUND 1

Kiss: Ella (Lucifer) – she is sooo adorable and enthusiastic. I don’t know what that has to do with kissing her, but I do like her.
Marry: Henry (Once Upon a Time) – he was annoying af as a teen, but grown up Henry is amazing.
Kill: Clary (Shadowhunters) – am I even sorry?

ROUND 2

Kiss: Four (Divergent) – he’s handsome and broody, so sure, why not?
Marry: Mark Watney (The Martian) – if anyone doubted that I would marry Mark in an instant, do you even know me? He is funny, smart and has wicked survival skills. As an astronaut he probably wouldn’t be home that much, but I think he has enough of outter space for now. Also, I am sure I could prep some meals without potatoes for the rest of my life.
Kill: Vassa (Vassa in the Night) – I just didn’t particularly click with her?

ROUND 3

Kiss: Philip (Travelers) – on the show, Philip, Trevor and Marcy are the ones I fancy the most, so I would have kissed any one of those characters if they had come up.
Marry: Elvis (Our Girl) – I wasn’t too particularly happy about this round as a whole. I would marry Elvis though, just because Luke is amazing.
Kill: April (Grey’s Anatomy) – I am so sorry, April!! I did not want to kill you at all!!!

ROUND 4

Kiss: Theo (A Million Worlds With You) – I just love Theo so much, but he is kind of a player. So a kiss suffices.
Marry: Sevro (Red Rising) – that man is so smelly and gross, but I love him? I’d SO marry him!
Kill: Matthias (Six of Crows) – so … uhm … there was a thought process behind this, but I am scared to say it.

ROUND 5

Kiss: Robert (The Royals) – he might be evil, but he is still super handsome and one of my favourite fictional psychos.
Marry: Karen (The Punisher) – I adore Karen! Neither the Punisher nor Daredevil would be the same without her. Enough said.
Kill: Esme (The Gifted) – she’s such a manipulative and mean spirit. Having her around only means trouble, so … you get my drift.

ROUND 6

Kiss: Gansey (Blue Lily, Lily Blue) – Gansey is my least favourite Raven boy … so yeah, but he constantly dies and I don’t want to kill him even more.
Marry: Shahrzad (The Rose & the Dagger) – She’d be the best wife! And the bedtime stories would be epic.
Kill: Carver (Goodbye Days) – I just kind of forgot what his personality was like?

ROUND 7

I just want to say that I hate this round so much. I want to marry them all and this isn’t fair.

Kiss: Amberle (The Shannara Chronicles) – still not over what happened to her.
Marry: Will (Sense8) – I know from firsthand experience that Will is a formidable hugger. That is a great quality in a husband to have, aside from his obvious kindness and all around great character.
Kill: Grace (Peaky Blinders) – The only reason I chose her was because she lied to Tommy in the beginning and that vexed me.

ROUND 8

Kiss: Quentin (The Epic Crush of Genie Lo) – I wonder how it would be to kiss someone much shorter than me?
Marry: Warner (Ignite Me) – Warner is a good guy at heart. I doubt he would ever want to be with anyone other than Juliette, but we are just pretending she doesn’t exist in this scenario.
Kill: Tamlin (A Court of Thorns and Roses) – is he the worst ever? No … but I still don’t want him near me.

ROUND 9

Kiss: Brainiac 5 (Supergirl) – I like him. He brings a fresh and slightly comedic element to the show, even if the looks aren’t really like they used to be in the comics. Nonetheless, I do not like him enough to marry him.
Marry: Takeshi (Altered Carbon) – Honestly, I wasn’t sure which picture to pick, because he wore so many sleeves. But I like him and he seems like such a loyal soul.
Kill: Veronica (Riverdale) – I am over the trash fire that is Riverdale.

ROUND 10

Kiss: Rachel (Words in Deep Blue) – sweet girl, I am down.
Marry: Benvolio (Still Star-Crossed) – can I pretty please have the TV version of him??
Kill: Farley (Glass Sword) – I am just not a huge fan of her. Would I have killed her in another scenario? I am not sure, but in this round she was the least painful to pick.

I am not going to tag anyone specifically, but if you feel like this is something you’d enjoy – YOU ARE HEREBY TAGGED! (and it’s a tag that works for any other day than Valentine’s Day as well) What did you think of my picks?

Valentine’s Day Write Tag!

It’s time for another tag for writers! Since the Winter Is Here one worked quite well, I thought I’d do one for the upcoming Valentine’s Day as well. As per usual, I will be answering my own questions with the characters from Arcadia (more about that here) and hope you’ll enjoy!

RULES

  • Thank the person who tagged you but also link back to the original post(I want to see all your lovely answers, people!)
  • Provide a short description of your WIP/story!
Kasia and Dyson have known each other their entire lives, their paths intertwining at every crossroad. So forgetting he ever existed doesn’t make any sense to Kasia and neither does finding out about the magical beings that took him away from her. Now, with the help of some allies with motives of their own, she will do everything she can to get him back, not knowing if either one of them will ever be the same after all is said and done.
You can check out this post to find out more about Arcadia!
  • Don’t use just one character for all answers if possible!

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

If there is a couple in your WIP, what are their plans for Valentine’s Day? And if there is no couple in your WIP, is there someone your main character would like to spend Valentine’s Day with?

Dyson and Kasia are a couple and whenever they spent Valentine’s Day together, they’d have breakfast in bed with fresh strawberries and chocolate banana pancakes (which Dyson cooked). There were no special plans during the day, but they always made sure to get each other a ridiculously non-romantic Valentine’s Day card and have a quiet dinner together as well.

Who has no shame about going out for dinner on Valentine’s Day alone?

I think Findlay couldn’t care less about what other people think. I doubt he’d actually get a table at a restaurant, but he isn’t too aware of other people’s pitiful stares and such.

One of your characters requests a song on the radio for their crush! Which song and for which character would they pick it?

This is cheesiness only Dyson could plan for Kasia.

Is there a character who would organise an Anti-Valentine’s Day party?

Georgie would happily organise a party like that, because she don’t need no man/woman/society-forcing-a-construct-on-her-for-what-to-do-with-her-life. Galentine’s Day is her jam instead.

What romantic gesture would swoon your main character?

Hands down, Dyson had the best of best gifts for Kasia when he gave her a personalised leather-bound notebook. He wrote a heartfelt inscription for her on the first page and had her name and a favourite quote engraved on the outside. He is such a good boyfriend, I swear I would steal him away from her if I could.

Which character would buy a bunch of red roses and hand them out to strangers on the street, just to make their day?

This is something Leo, my precious darling, would definitely do. He has the best of hearts and even if he doesn’t have a sweetheart himself, it wouldn’t stop him from spreading the love with others. Also, who could say no to this cutie?

What are your main character’s favourite Valentine’s movies? (Note: Valentine’s movies don’t have to be romantic!)

Those are Kasia’s picks, but Dyson likes them too and if he says otherwise he is lying, because he is a big mushy softie inside.

Who is ready for the February 15th, just to get all the chocolate on sale?

Kasia, because chocolate.

Is there a character who never spends Valentine’s Day alone aka always has some sort of date?

From the top of my head, I can’t really think of anyone, but maybe Robyn. She strikes me as the kind of person who doesn’t like to be by herself a lot. Which is fine, you know, but some things you have to do yourself. Thankfully, Valentine’s Day is not one of those things.

Bonus: Create a Valentine’s Day aesthetic for one or several of your characters!

Even though Georgie may not celebrate Valentine’s Day with someone, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t treat herself!

I TAG THEE

I hope you liked the tag and if you did, please, spread the word!!! I know I cut it close to Valentine’s Day, but maybe there’s still some people out there who’d like to do the tag.

Kiss, Marry, Kill Book Tag

kmk

It’s Valentine’s Day, or, as I like to call it, Single Appreciation Day. No matter what you are or aren’t celebrating, Cristina @My Tiny Obsessions tagged me for the Kiss, Marry, Kill tag and what better day to do it than today?

So, here’s how I made this work: I did 10 rounds with 3 books each. I put Goodreads on random to pick the books and then opened them at a random page to select a character. If I didn’t know (cue, this means I didn’t remember) the character, I simply did it again. Then I chose who I wanted to kiss, marry or kill (not that I actually “wanted” to do the last at all). Simple as that!

ROUND 1

kmk1

Kiss: Jace (City of Fallen Angels) – he’s handsome, but would I want to date him? Nah … not really. So, a smooch is what I am going to take.
Marry: Carlisle (Eclipse) – he’s kind and a family man, that’s some real marriage material.
Kill: Edmond (How I Live Now) – I like Edmond, but he is kind of broken beyond repair. I think Daisy is literally the only person to fix him, so there’s no way I could help him.

ROUND 2

kmk2

Kiss: Tristran (Stardust) – he’s cute.
Marry: Bellamy (The 100) – I just love him and even though he would probably be more of a wildcard as a husband than Tristran would have been, I like him best out of the bunch.
Kill: Scipio (The Thief Lord) – he’s more like a character from my childhood and … I just can’t see it at all.

ROUND 3

kmk3

Kiss: Freya (Witches of East End) – Freya is the Goddess of love. I have a feeling this is going to be one heck of a kiss.
Marry: Finnick (Catching Fire) – do I need to explain this? He was only one of my most beloved characters of the series!
Kill: Wylan (Six of Crows) – I just don’t feel like Wylan would be into ME. So, this is for his own good, because otherwise I would never ever hurt him.

ROUND 4

kmk4

Kiss: Ronan (Blue Lily, Lily Blue) – a kiss with me is not going to kill him, right? Because I feel like I should have applied the same logic as I did with Wylan here …
Marry: Quentin (The Magicians) – this only works for me if I can have TV Quentin … or at least second book Quentin. Why did I choose him at all?
Kill: Park (Eleanor & Park) – he’s such a cutie, but he’s also sooo young.

ROUND 5

kmk5

Kiss: Frank (Since You’ve Been Gone) – There are so many sweethearts in those books.
Marry: Logan (The Lucky One) – That guy is amazing and he has a dog. I love dogs. He already won me over with that fact alone.
Kill: Snow White (Snow White & the Huntsman) – I just didn’t like her, okay? I didn’t like the entire book very much.

ROUND 6

kmk6

Kiss: Nick (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) – I could see the setting right in front of my eyes. Some indie band playing at a bar, us having fun. Sure, why not?
Marry: Sansa (A Clash of Kings) – Sansa is badass and unlike stupid Ramsey, I would know how to treat her right, because she deserves so much better.
Kill: Lily (Firewalker) – That girl is a LOT of work. She’s super stubborn and self-righteous and I am pretty sure we would have clashed.

ROUND 7

kmk7

Kiss: Celia (The Night Circus) – I am having a hard time coming up with explanations here …
Marry: Max (The Book Thief) – he is one of my greatest bookish loves. There was no debate about that one.
Kill: Gideon (Ruby Red) – he’s a douche most of the time?

ROUND 8

kmk8

Kiss: Mori (Lock & Mori) – Mori is really cool, but I couldn’t imagine a relationship with her. She’s so much smarter and more cunning than me.
Marry: John (Dear John) – You can say about Nicholas Sparks what you like, but that man writes some great dudes.
Kill: Vassa (Vassa in the Night) – this decision is 100% based on me not liking the book.

ROUND 9

kmk9

Kiss: August (This Savage Song) – This is the toughest round yet! I want to marry them all? But since that’s not the game, I will kiss August.
Marry: Mark Watney (The Martian) – Mark is funny and smart and has wicked survival skills … I don’t know why that would matter, but I think it’s a good quality.
Kill: Felix (Wolf by Wolf) – of the three, I like him the least, so that was my only option.

ROUND 10

kmk10

Kiss: Lucien (ACOMAF) – I would have wanted to marry him, if he hadn’t been such a freaking coward in that book. I still love him though.
Marry: Julian (Lady Midnight) – If Cristina won’t marry him, I WILL GLADLY DO IT!
Kill: Jane (My Lady Jane) – sorry Jane?

I TAG THEE

So, I had no apparent logic to this. How did you like the tag?

Lust for Love Review

I feel like writing today, so here’s my recommendation #2 for Valentine’s Day: Lust for Love! Again, beware of Spoilers ahead!

Here the basic facts:

Genre: Romance/Comedy

Length: 85  minutes

Cast: Fran Kranz, Dichen Lachman, Beau Garrett, Caitlin Stasey, Enver Gjokaj, Karim Saleh, Miracle Laurie, Felicia Day, Jonathan Oldham, Maurissa Tancheroen …

Director/Writer: Anton King

Astor has dreamed to be with Mila his whole life. So, when they finally get together, he’s the happiest man on the planet. Too bad Mila doesn’t feel the same way and breaks up with him before the relationship really started. To win her back, Astor seeks the help of Cali, Mila’s former best friend, who’s supposed to make him a real player with women. Things get complicated when feelings don’t just evolve for Mila but Cali as well and Astor has to choose who he really wants to be with.

Let me start by saying that I adore this movie – there is literally nothing I don’t love about it! (Except maybe for the fact that it was too short and I could have watched it all day long!)

  • I love the cast, because it feels like a long overdue reunion of one of my favourite shows on the planet: Dollhouse. For everyone who knows the show, you’ll understand this: It’s like Topher got a day off to play with the dolls and he decided to let everyone fall in love with him. That alone should get you to want to watch it! But everyone on the movie is just amazing – I mean the minor characters were casted with real stars like Felicia Day or Caitlin Stasey (Reign) to name just a few.
  • It is one of the rare cases where the music from the Trailer was actually used during the movie and I love that as well.
  • The story is sweet and hilarious and cool at the same time and just strikes the right balance for me. You root for Astor the entire time, because he’s just so relatable that you ship him with everyone he meets. I personally would have even liked to see him with Miracle Laurie‘s character Jenny, just because she seemed to be genuinely interested in him and that even though she wasn’t even part of the main cast.
  • Last but not least, it’s just one of those movies that’s really beautiful to watch.

So, after Not Another Happy Ending this is my other go-to-movie for Valentine’s Day! Enjoy it and tell me what you think!

Not Another Happy Ending Review

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! To celebrate this day of love, I am going to review the Scottish romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending! I am afraid I can’t do this entirely without Spoilers, so beware!

Let’s start with the facts (as always):

Genre: Romance/Comedy

Length: 102  minutes

Cast: Karen Gillan, Stanley Weber, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Ian Cusick, Gary Lewis, Freya Mavor, Amy Manson, Kate Dickie …

Director: John McKay

Writer: David Solomons

Jane Lockhart is Tom’s only bestselling author and he can’t wait for her new book to be ready for publishing. But there’s one problem: Jane is blocked. Distracted by her successful screenwriter-boyfriend, who is currently adapting her first story for the big screen, and the pressure to write another hit-novel she rather bakes instead of write. Yet Tom knows exactly what to do. There’s one thing he’s sure of and that’s the fact that Jane can only write when she’s miserable, so he tries to ruin her life in order to help her. Of course that’s a plan destined to fail and it only gets worse after he starts developing real feelings for her. Emotional chaos on both sides is the result.

There were several reasons I wanted to see this movie. First, I am a sucker for RomCom’s (big news there, I know), but the even more prominent reason was the cast. I love Karen Gillan because of Doctor Who, Iain De Caestecker because of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Henry Ian Cusick because of more than just the 100 – that movie was like a feast for the TV show-loving side of my brain with several worlds colliding. I hadn’t heard much about Stanley Weber before the movie (probably because he’s in a lot of French movies and I haven’t seen any them except for French Women/Sous les jupes des filles), but he also proved to be a good choice for the role of Tom and worth looking out for.

Generally, I really enjoyed the movie. It offered exactly what it advertised and that is light entertainment. Granted sometimes the humour was a tad too silly for me, but it was quirky and hilarious nonetheless. The music is great as well and I really can’t say much more. Of course it’s predictable, but who watches a RomCom for their plot twists? The main cast knows how to hold themselves and is supported by great side characters. If you are looking for a nice movie for Valentine’s Day this is my recommendation!

What do you think?

A cynical view on (dating) life

Seen as I am a huge fan of British comedian Jon Richardson, I did not hesitate one second to buy his book It’s Not Me, It’s You from 2011. It has a lot of elements from his stand-up program and is therefore extremly funny, yet not as funny as I thought it would be, because of a few but existing serious bits in the book. (This should by no means indicate that I didn’t like it though!)

Jon-Richardson-Its-not-me-its-you

Richardson himself said that it is not meant to be an autobiography, but to me it definitely seems like an honest view on life from his perspective. The book focuses on Richardson’s quest for love and how his pursuit for perfection gets in the way of it. While never having been diagnosed with OCD, it still is a re-occuring topic in Richardson’s work (including a great documentary called A Little Bit OCD), hence, the book also takes on several of his neurotic and compulsive-obsessive tendencies. It originally only started out as an article for The Guardian‘s Valentine’s Day issue, but turned into a “relationship guide from the point of view of someone who hasn’t been in one for eight years” according to Jon Richardson himself.

I really enjoyed reading the book and found Richardson’s cynical view on life and dating weirdly refreshing, but I also felt that I found out more about Richardson as a person (including his irrational anger and enjoyment of alcoholic beverages). Do you know the book or any of his stand-up gigs? What do you think about it?
